I'm sure that's fine by a lot of people.
What about Tori Hunter or anyone else who has been victim of Boston's affinity for racial slurs. I went to a Celtics game at the Garden in the early 2000s Paul Pierce era and heard the "N" word no less than 10 times being shouted out without anyone so much as batting an eye. Let's stop pretending policy is a reflection of the people, if it was maybe New England would practice diversity instead of talking about it.

As well they should. There’s enough blue states to sate the demand.
    no, they shouldn't.
It’s so funny whenever someone suggests they should only play blue states. What a ridiculous thing.
Why is it ridiculous? They canceled a show that folks had tickets to over a law passed by an elected government. Why not publicly announce, and encourage others to do the same, of not playing states where certain citizens are treated as second or third class citizens? You want to see Pearl Jam? Travel to a state that respects and treats all its citizens as equals.

    Yea, ridiculous.
by that standard they should only be playing geneva from now on.
    Are you sure?
Yeah some Swiss bankers benefited from the holocaust … so Geneva is out now.. how about Nauru?  its world's smallest island nation in the Pacific… probably not because I’m guessing they have some commercial fishing, so someone won’t like that..

Boston has had its share of race issues over the years, so I’m sure someone could start a stupid ass thread for that… hate to say this, but there are no perfect utopian countries or states..
true. But MA also legalized gay marriage over a decade ago. And offered a state version of Obamacare before Obamacare. Last time I checked, abortion was still legal there as well and they weren’t trying to make voting more difficult. And they seem to welcome immigrants and appear to do pretty well on quality of life metrics.

Most places are not perfect but some places are abhorrent. Pearl Jam used to stand for something, I can now it’s just a business. And a crappy one at that if you wander over to the tickets thread. Enjoy the show(s).

Can’t wait for the shut up and sing complaints.

I only just learned about Nauru from this post but I am already taking a stand to never see PJ play there.

Well, it’d be a poor business decision on their part but I wouldn’t rule out travelling there. Ohana Fest West. Further West.

I am a fan of speaking out  and appreciate much of what the band has done.

The problem? Now there's scrutinizing everything and purity tests. Like most of us, they have a job to do and I'm happy to take the strange stance that there is no right and wrong; they have many viable options. They can boycott Texas for their policies (so as not to spend money there) or, conversely, play in places like that to try to raise money / awareness. Either approach is rationale. They can also not base their choice of tour stops on state policies at all. Also viable. I also don't care if the say "we're not going to Texas" in 2022 and decide to go there in 2023. People change.

The only thing I've ever really been bothered by is cancelling the NC show because the negative impact on their fans was far worse than any impact on anyone they were sending messages to.  Play where you want to but stick to your commitments. (Also, I knew that after doing that, someone would be able to find something just as bad about almost any other state so they kinda painted themselves into a corner on the "inconsistency" front).

    First we took an aeroplane
    Then a boat to Zanzibar

    Crossed the border to Morocco
    Kashmir then Marrakech
The lengths we had to go to… to see a Pearl Jam show..

    😜
Or you could drive or fly to MA or NYC?

There go the tour profits due to the chicken wire expenses. Poor business decision.

    Stop being so rational.

There go the tour profits due to the chicken wire expenses. Poor business decision.

It was/is rational and true.  Very well stated.  A great question to ask them if you’re ever so lucky.  You may be absolutely correct, now what? Boycott every state?  Sometimes making “good” trouble backfires.

Whole thread is ridiculous. People worried Texas politics and laws that don't even live there. Expecting PJ to be some martyr for a political ideology. Like only people they agree with can enjoy the same music. PJ is a business and Texans are buying tickets, get over

I don’t care for the “don’t even live there” argument as most of this shit doesn’t affect me directly being a hoser moose rider.

But I have family and friends in the US, particularly a cousin who is a teacher in Austin who I fear for all the time. Every time I hear of another fucking shooting I scramble to find out where.
