I will never ever understand the gun situation in your country.
It’s embedded into the founding and fabric of America because,
We won our independence from the empire and many think it was due to carrying guns everywhere.
And to this day many carry guns everywhere because we need to win our independence from all those damn non-Europeans who have invaded our country, not to mention all the commie socialist idiot Democrats who have infested this great nation!

Apparently the shooter had been picked up and deported at least 4 times based on local news. How does that even happen.
From CNN “At an unknown time and location, Perez-Torres unlawfully reentered the United States, and was apprehended and removed several more times by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in September 2009, January 2012, and July 2016,” the source said.
Oropesa’s current immigration status is unclear, and it is not known how long he had been in the US since he was last deported.
Authorities are now pleading for the public’s help in their search for Oropesa, 38, who they say opened fire after he was asked to stop shooting his rifle near a neighboring family’s home in Cleveland, a city of about 8,000 people northeast of Houston.
Oropesa is considered armed and dangerous, an FBI official said, as more than 250 law enforcement officers and $80,000 in reward money have been devoted to capturing him. The massacre is among more than 180 US mass shootings in just the first four months of the year and, like others, seemingly stemmed from an ordinary encounter.
About 10 to 20 minutes before Friday’s massacre, Wilson Garcia and two other men had walked over to Oropesa’s yard to ask him to stop shooting so close to their home because their baby was sleeping, Garcia told CNN. They’d asked Oropesa to shoot on the other side of his property, he said.
The suspect refused, and Garcia said he would call police.
“We walked inside and my wife was talking to the police, and we called five times because he was being more threatening,” Garcia recalled.
“We saw him, he was leaving his property and cocked his gun,” the father said. “I told my wife to get inside because he cocked his gun and he might come threaten us. So my wife said, ‘You go inside, I don’t think he will fire at me because I’m a woman, I’ll stay here at the door.’”
The gunman later came to Garcia’s home, shooting his wife, Sonia Argentina Guzman, in the doorway before killing three other adults and Garcia’s son, Daniel Enrique Laso-Guzman, the grieving father said.
Sonia Argentina Guzman and her son, Daniel Enrique Laso-Guzman, were shot and killed by a neighbor Friday in Cleveland, Texas, officials said.

“One of the people who died saw when my wife fell to the ground,” Garcia told CNN.
“She told me to throw myself out the window because my children were already without a mother. So one of us had to stay alive to take care of them. She was the person who helped me jump out the window.”
The woman who helped Garcia flee did not survive, he said.
“Two people who died were protecting my 2 1/2-year-old daughter and my 1-month-old son,” Garcia said, sobbing. “They protected him with a bunch of clothing so the murderer wouldn’t kill him, too. So just imagine what we’re feeling now. It was horrible.”
When police arrived, they found the victims had been shot “almost execution style” at close range above the neck, San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers told local media.
Before the deadly confrontation at Garcia’s home, five 911 calls had been made to report the gunman shooting his rifle outdoors, the father said.
Authorities got to the scene as fast as they could, Capers said. But his small force covers a large county, he said, and the home is about 15 minutes outside town.
The other victims have been identified as Diana Velázquez Alvarado, 21; Julisa Molina Rivera, 31, and José Jonathan Cásarez, 18. Daniel Enrique Laso-Guzman turned 9 in January, Garcia said; authorities previously said he was 8.
They are among the 248 victims killed in US mass shootings in just the first four months of this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The non-profit, like CNN, defines mass shootings as those in which four or more people are shot, not including a gunman.
Diana Velázquez Alvarado, 21, was one of the five people killed. Her partner, 23-year-old Jefrinson Rivera, said they had been together for 6 years.
A collective $80,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Oropesa.
“We consider him armed and dangerous,” said James Smith, FBI Houston special agent in charge. “He’s out there, and he’s a threat to the community.”
The suspect had been convicted of driving while intoxicated in Montgomery County, Texas, in 2012. Court records reviewed by CNN indicate he was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail and released a few days early with credit for time served.
Authorities had “zero leads” on Oropesa’s location as of Sunday afternoon, Smith said, adding the Mexican national could be anywhere.
Francisco Oropea has a large tattoo of what appears to be a female Aztec on his left forearm, the FBI's Houston office said.
FBI Houston
Oropesa’s wife has been interviewed multiple times and is in “constant contact” with investigators, the sheriff said.
In the past, the suspect’s wife and Garcia’s wife “would always chat,” and the two families didn’t have problems with each other, Garcia said.
The suspect “even helped us chop down a tree and he would come by the house,” Garcia said.
But something set Oropesa off the night of the massacre, as he tried to shoot survivors before fleeing, the grieving father said.
Authorities had been tracking Oropesa’s cell phone but found it abandoned Saturday along with some clothes, Capers said. Tracking dogs picked up a scent from the items, but the trail vanished, Capers said.
Officers have been going door-to-door seeking security camera footage or any other information residents may have, Capers said.
The hefty reward for Oropesa’s arrest will be advertised on Spanish-language billboards in the area, urging the public to submit tips, the sheriff said.
“I can pretty much … guarantee you he’s contacted some of his friends,” said Smith, the FBI agent. “We just don’t know which friends they are, and that is what we need from the public is any type of information.”
Sheriff gets emotional talking about the victims
When the shooting began, Garcia – the widower and newly single father of two – was gathered at his home with relatives, godparents and friends, he said.
“The other people that were there would visit over the weekend to spend time with us,” he said. “They were godparents and friends.”
After officials confirmed those killed were all Honduran nationals, the Honduran Foreign Ministry is preparing to repatriate their remains, it said.
“The Government of Honduras deeply regrets the loss of these valuable lives and accompanies all their loved ones in their pain. We demand that the pertinent authorities arrest the perpetrator of this terrible event and apply the full weight of the law,” the agency said in a statement.
Hundreds of law enforcement officers are searching for suspect Francisco Oropesa.

There had been 15 people in the house at the time of the shooting, Garcia told CNN. Authorities previously had said there were 10 people in the home.
The sheriff got emotional Sunday when he spoke about Daniel Enrique Laso-Guzman, the young boy who was killed
“I don’t care if he was here legally. I don’t care if he was here illegally. He was in my county,” Capers said. “Five people died in my county, and that is where my heart is – in my county, protecting my people to the best of our ability.”

What a drag that Texas is what Texas has become. Beside some of our forum members here, think of the many great souls who came from Texas-- Willie Nelson, Woody Harrelson, Stephen Stills, Carol Burnett, Larry Coryell, Steve Martin, Janis Joplin, Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings... the list goes on and on and on.
The song could just as easily have been
Oh, Texas The devil fools with the best laid plan Swing low, Texas You got the spare change You got to feel strange And now the moment is all that it meant
Texas, you got the weight on your shoulders That's breaking your back Your Cadillac has got a wheel in the ditch And a wheel on the track...
It's sad.

Semantics. The term has been used forever, it's still used and only recently has it been the target of a culture war and to draw yet another line in the sand.
Go see Texas, it's beautiful there. You'd love Austin, very chill.

ABBOTT AIMS TO PARDON RACIST MURDERER WHO SENT EXPLICIT TEXTS TO APPARENT MINOR
The governor didn't even wait a single day before calling for the potential pardon of racist murderer Daniel Perry.
After an Austin jury unanimously convicted Sergeant Daniel Perry of murder, it took Governor Greg Abbott less than one full day to call for his pardon.
Legal experts and lawmakers have described it as an unprecedented move that has injected politics into the parole and pardon system.
“I can’t imagine that there’s ever been a time when they’ve considered a pardon for someone who hasn’t even been sentenced yet,” Allison Mathis, a longtime public defender in Texas, told the Texas Observer.
Texas Senate passes bill to allow secretary of state to overturn Harris County elections
The bill targets the state's largest county, which has become more Democratic in recent years, over problems that arose during last year's election.
The Texas Legislature is advancing a bill that would allow the secretary of state to redo elections in Harris County, where a number of Democratic candidates posted strong midterm election results and which has been dogged by GOP claims of election mismanagement.
The Republican-controlled Senate passed the bill Tuesday and sent it to the state House. If it is enacted, it would allow the secretary of state to toss out election results in the state's largest county and call a new vote if there is "good cause" to believe that at least 2% of polling places ran out of usable ballots during voting hours.
The bill would apply only to counties with populations greater than 2.7 million, effectively singling out Harris County, which is home to Houston and has by far the largest population in the state, at nearly 5 million. In recent decades, Harris County has become more Democratic.

Hey, but who gives a fuck, right?
New data shows how little the electorate looks like the population
The 2022 midterm elections did not go the way the Republican Party expected. Historical patterns suggested that the party would accrue a hefty majority in the House and regain control of the Senate. Those things didn’t happen for a variety of reasons.
But the party can take solace in one thing: The results would probably have been quite a bit worse if the electorate actually looked like the U.S. population.
The Washington Post’s Scott Clement and Lenny Bronner this week looked at new data from the Census Bureau tracking voter participation in the midterms. After adjusting the data to match state-level turnout, they discovered that turnout rates among Black voters declined heavily since the 2018 election.
Turnout rates have an obvious relationship to the composition of the electorate, of course. If White and Black Americans turned out at the same rate, there would still be far more White voters, given the composition of the population. But if White turnout is substantially higher than Black turnout, as it was last year, the gap in representation at the polls is wider still.
In fact, if we compare the composition of the electorate with the composition of the population, that gap is obvious. Looking at the figures on race and age calculated by Clement and Bronner and comparing them to Census Bureau population data, we see that the electorate was much whiter and much older than the population overall.
About 74 percent of the electorate was White, compared with 59 percent of the population. About 41 percent of the electorate was 60 or older, compared with 30 percent of the adult population.
The biggest racial gulf was among Hispanics. About 19 percent of the population is Hispanic, but less than 10 percent of the electorate was. Citizenship plays a role here; Hispanics make up about 16 percent of the population of U.S. citizens.
There’s still a wide gap, in other words — in part because “older” and “whiter” overlap. Younger Americans, a lower-turnout group, are more likely to be non-White, also a lower-turnout group. There are a lot of reasons for both of those tendencies, including that voting is easier for those who own homes or work steady hours and that there are structural roadblocks that inhibit many demographic groups from voting.
The disparity in 2022 wasn’t unique. Whites have been overrepresented in the electorate since they were the only ones allowed to vote. Tracking the trend in representation since 1986, though, we see an interesting pattern: Whites have gotten slightly more overrepresented and Hispanics have gotten more underrepresented.
You can see that below. Each line tracks the percentage of the population and percentage of the electorate each racial group constituted in a federal election year since 1986. The White population percentage has declined, as has the percent of the electorate it makes up. (The 2022 percentages are indicated with a dot.) But that dark-purple line is moving slightly away from the dashed diagonal line over time, as the overrepresentation increases.
In 1985, Whites were overrepresented in the electorate by about eight percentage points. In 2022, it was about 15 points.
That’s in part because Hispanic representation is moving away from the diagonal in the other direction. Hispanics are now underrepresented by twice the margin they were in 1986.
Black Americans are underrepresented relative to the population, but there have been recent exceptions. Since 2008, Blacks have made up about as much of the electorate as they do the population, dipping down again in 2022.
Again, this overlaps with age. The patterns of representation in the population look different largely because of the baby boom, with the population ages 45 to 69 surging and receding in the 1986-to-2023 period. (Each age group is broken out separately in graphs at the bottom, below.) But the gap in representation has been consistent, with older Americans being overrepresented and younger Americans underrepresented.
(That’s only the adult population, mind you. For obvious reasons, those younger than 18 aren’t represented in the electorate at all.)
It’s hard to say precisely how this affects election results, but we can estimate it using exit polls. If we use the turnout data by race (specifically White vs. non-White), we see that Republican House candidates had more votes by a three point margin nationally. If the electorate matched the population, though, those exit polls suggest that Democratic candidates would have had more votes by a five point margin — an eight point swing.
That’s a very rough calculation, comparing White and non-White. If we also do a rough calculation based on age, we go from a three point Republican margin to a less than one point Democratic one, a four point shift to the left. (The exit polls split the 45-and-older population at 65 instead of 60, but partisan support between those groups wasn’t much different.)
As I was writing a book looking at long-term trends in age and race, I interviewed David Faris, an author and professor at Roosevelt University in Chicago.
“The Republican Party’s competitiveness this century has really been propped up by differential turnout rates between younger and older voters,” he said when we spoke in 2021.
Particularly when considering how age and race correlate, 2022 very much bolstered his thesis.
They are so stupid. Dumbest in the room at all times.

Me, owned? "Mission accomplished"? Hardly, BP. In fact, not at all. To me, it's obvious Out of My Mind and Time is just dinkin' around here. How can anyone take that seriously? Me? Nawww! And don't take what I said seriously either. The who point is to illustrate what a joke this all is. A lame joke, to be sure, but just a joke all the same.

I moved this outta the Tour Announcement thread..."Ok. Whatever, man. This is a thread for the tour. I’m seeing 4 shows I can drive to so I’m happy and done discussing politics. Have a good day."
Simple question...what's the thinking behind the FOUR dates in Greg Abbott's TEXAS on this minitour (AKA Florida's cousin)? I'm old enough to remember when social issues mattered to the band more than social media.
People like you are the true fascists. Calling everything and everyone that might not agree with every progressive leaning topic a fascist.
LOL.
The fact that you believe PJ is playing four concerts in Texas to "reward the fascists" is hilarious, yet sad, at the same time.
I almost feel sorry for you , delusional with this crazy idea, that Pearl Jam fans "that can drive to the show" don't want to discuss politics with you and are also rewarding the fascists and must be called out by you.
They don't want to discuss politics with you because it doesn't consume their lives, politics doesn't make up 95% of their posts on an online forum for a fan club of a band they happen to like, and they sure as fuck don't want to get accused of being called a fascist (or a racist, ot a homophobe, or a transphobe, islamaphobe, or whatever other "phobe" your ultra progressive woke mind can come up with and use as a weapon in the hopes of silencing any opposing opinions and close the door on any discussion), they just want to go see a concert is all.
If you were a true fan of this band, you would be happy for them as the other 99.5% of the members of this forum are. But you make several posts about this in different threads, then decided it deserves it's very own thread and then cry about it being moved to it's proper place on the forum because you know 90% of the member won't see it. You wear your social justice warrior badge well and want everyone to know it, don't you lol ?
Pearl Jam has always been a left leaning band. I am a registered Democrat and my beliefs also lean to the left. Do I agree with every stance Pearl Jam has ever taken? For the most part, yes, but not always. And guess what ? Opinions change all the time. Maybe PJ is playing Texas to change some minds, or maybe, just maybe, while the hope of changing peoples mind is still their in their heads, they're just playing Texas because that area of the country hasn't had arena shows in a while, and maybe Ed can mention the abortion issues at some shows down there while they're at it.
Win, win, right?
Nah, not for people like you. Scream and yell like fucking babies and assume all kinds of shit about people when you have no idea what is going thru their minds at any given time and make sure to call them at least one of the three hail marys out of the progressive playbook for dummies.

How dare they play shows there now?
Assuming is a motherfucker. And is the dominant trait of a true fascist.
Here's some food for thought while we're at it. Progressives like yourself with your cancel culture and all the other delusional bullshit (like defund the police, not going so well where I live) have hijacked the Democrat Party as your own and I no longer consider myself a Democrat because of people like you. It'll be a cold day in hell that I become a registered Republican. But when it comes down to a choice between a woke progressive Democrat vs. a Republican in any and all future elections that I'm able to take part in, Republican all the way. Just wanted you know that. I aint the only one thinking like these days either, and I say this as a 28 year proud member of the Philadelphia Democratic City Committee in Philadelphia, PA.
And if it's Biden v. Trump again ? Christ I hope not, Biden sold his soul to the progressives and ain't there mentally anymore and Trump, is same as ever asshole Trump and all the bullshit that comes with asshole Trump. But the ultra progressive woke agenda that takes priority over common fucking sense and has hijacked the Democrat Party will force me to vote for Trump. Hell, maybe I'll even move to Texas, seems to be PJ's new home base lol.

Actaully, 95% of the post on this section of the PJ forums (AMT) are related to discussing politics. I'm guessing you are not familiar with the A Moving Train section you are posting in.
Pearl Jam has always been a left leaning band. I am a registered Democrat and my beliefs also lean to the left. Do I agree with every stance Pearl Jam has ever taken? For the most part, yes, but not always. And guess what ? Opinions change all the time. From CNN
“At an unknown time and location, Perez-Torres unlawfully reentered the United States, and was apprehended and removed several more times by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in September 2009, January 2012, and July 2016,” the source said.
200 officers are in a manhunt for the Texas suspect accused of killing his 5 neighbors. Authorities are offering $80,000 for information
A GoFundMe account has been established to help the families of the victims killed.
Extensive search yields ‘zero leads’

New data shows how little the electorate looks like the population
The 2022 midterm elections did not go the way the Republican Party expected. Historical patterns suggested that the party would accrue a hefty majority in the House and regain control of the Senate. Those things didn’t happen for a variety of reasons.
But the party can take solace in one thing: The results would probably have been quite a bit worse if the electorate actually looked like the U.S. population.
Sign up for How To Read This Chart, a weekly data newsletter from Philip Bump
