Not sure where to put this but I’m enjoying the recent trend of shaming celebrities for their private jet usage. No surprise, they’re usually the biggest hypocrites.0

I'm going to see The Dream Syndicate in Sacramento tomorrow. That band is celebrating it's 40 year this tour. On Face Book, band leader Steve Wynn mentioned a recent rehearsal for the tour and then wrote, "Time to pack up the van!"Which uses less energy. this?or this?

I'm a bit hesitant to post this for concern over being seen as an alarmist or doomer. I always try to remain hopeful, so those are not my M.O. But I am curious what some of you think. Does this writers premise sound likely? Does he take it too far? I really don't know. Would be interested to see what some of you think:
‘Soon it will be unrecognisable’: total climate meltdown cannot be stopped, says expert
Blistering heatwaves are just the start. We must accept how bad things are before we can head off global catastrophe, according to a leading UK scientist. The publication of Bill McGuire’s latest book, Hothouse Earth, could not be more timely. Appearing in the shops this week, it will be perused by sweltering customers who have just endured record high temperatures across the UK and now face the prospect of weeks of drought to add to their discomfort. And this is just the beginning, insists McGuire, who is emeritus professor of geophysical and climate hazards at University College London. As he makes clear in his uncompromising depiction of the coming climatic catastrophe, we have – for far too long – ignored explicit warnings that rising carbon emissions are dangerously heating the Earth. Now we are going to pay the price for our complacence in the form of storms, floods, droughts and heatwaves that will easily surpass current extremes.
The crucial point, he argues, is that there is now no chance of us avoiding a perilous, all-pervasive climate breakdown. We have passed the point of no return and can expect a future in which lethal heatwaves and temperatures in excess of 50C (120F) are common in the tropics; where summers at temperate latitudes will invariably be baking hot, and where our oceans are destined to become warm and acidic. “A child born in 2020 will face a far more hostile world that its grandparents did,” McGuire insists.
In this respect, the volcanologist, who was also a member of the UK government’s Natural Hazard Working Group, takes an extreme position. Most other climate experts still maintain we have time left, although not very much, to bring about meaningful reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. A rapid drive to net zero and the halting of global warming is still within our grasp, they say.
Such claims are dismissed by McGuire. “I know a lot of people working in climate science who say one thing in public but a very different thing in private. In confidence, they are all much more scared about the future we face, but they won’t admit that in public. I call this climate appeasement and I believe it only makes things worse. The world needs to know how bad things are going to get before we can hope to start to tackle the crisis.”

Bri, definitely agree with "A child born in 2020 will face a far more hostile world that its grandparents did,” but I disagree we are past the point of no return.
But....we need to end coal now, which may be near impossible. When I talk to independents (those lovingly gas price voters) that's really one of two points that I tell them matters (the other being trump is a murderer of Americans).
So forget electric cars, that tech is at least a decade away from doing anything. This species needs to end coal now.0
