Quite heroic of the OP to speak up! It is odd that the sets have become significantly shorter but I don't think that's going to keep me from going to a show.

I think if you are being honest with yourself everyone is disappointed with a 20 song set0

Of course we are but its early days I'm sure they can work it out to keep everyone them and us happy, a bit of tinkering with timings and order etc to make it to 26 or 27. I'm sure it will happenunknown said:I think if you are being honest with yourself everyone is disappointed with a 20 song set0

I’m in the minority, but I like a shorter, tighter set. I’m old and my feet hurt by the end. Give me 20 or so and I’m good.unknown said:I think if you are being honest with yourself everyone is disappointed with a 20 song set0

They may do a marathon show every now & again, but the shorter sets are fine with me. I'm just happy that they still want to play at all.I LOVE MUSIC.

If what defines the "band [you] know" is the length of their setlists, then sure, be pissed. A lot of people are. I am 46, and I was a super huge fan of Pearl Jam when I was a teenager. I am beyond thrilled that they are still putting out albums that both rock and feel relevant to me, and I am super happy that they are still doing live shows with the energy of a much younger band. The last PJ show I went to was my first in years, and I had to leave after less than half the songs because of a family emergency (I put my favorites in my signature, and this time, I only know about Immortality because I heard the boot after). Am I pissed that I only got to see a few tracks performed live? No. I am glad to have the memories. I'm not saying you should be like me, but I am saying that to many of us, the "band we know" is a dynamic phrase that encompasses a lot more than the number of songs.unknown said:I’ve been a fan since the beginning. You can always leave in the second encore break. Or take a short nap.elvistheking44 said:

I’m definitely let down a bit with the lower set list number. But my first shows in ‘96 to ‘00 were around 24 and I loved those! At this point, my last 3 shows were postponed or cancelled, so I’d be thrilled to see any show. I went on vacation with my mom recently and subjected her to PJ on Sirius. Heard lots of tracks from the US leg this year, sounded amazing, especially the Purple Rain cover.I’ve heard others complain about dropping too much cash on trips and not enjoying the shows enough. I try to do a few shows per tour (3 tops), and turn them into mini vacations. My Vegas show was canceled and I couldn’t refund my hotel, so I went anyway. I made sure it was an experience. There’s no way looking back, I would want to not go. Would I have made the trip without a show to go to? No, probably not. Am I thrilled to have lifetime memories of Zion and Bryce national parks? Absolutely. No regrets. A 22 song PJ show with a couple rarities, Ten, Gigaton, and some hits plus that trip? That would have been absolute icing on the cake. But, even with no PJ, no regrets dropping money on that trip. Nevada and Utah were gorgeous.
I’m obsessed with PJ, so it’s a big adjustment to see the lower numbers. But, I step back from myself a bit and think, maybe it’s a health issue for them. We don’t know. I’m 45 and was tired from timing my kids’ swim meet last night. I’m not touring the road and playing a rock show. By all accounts from musicians, touring, while fun, can be grueling.I love their music, love the band, and I can’t wait for Nashville and St. Louis. And, yeah, I’m disappointed in a lower number set list. 30 songs is amazing. But, man, the world is crazy, and there are so many problems that are a big deal right now. When September rolls around, and the shows actually happen, I’m going to be thrilled and thankful! And enjoying my son’s reaction to his first PJ shows!0

Guided by voices plays 50+ songs a show and Bob still is able to do majestic kicks every night. So get out of here with these weak ass 20-30 song setlists.0

Things I do not want: Pearl Jam to be more like [any other band]. But also worth noting: the average Guided By Voices song is 2 minutes long.apirk72 said:Guided by voices plays 50+ songs a show and Bob still is able to do majestic kicks every night. Sure but 2 minutes of pure rock n roll0

I just think all the comparing of bands in these type threads is stupid. Phish fans would love it if the band played 4 songs. Good concerts shouldn't be based on how many songs or how long band plays but by the actual music that is being played. I mean 20 minute Bad Brains shows are probably to this day the best shows anyone who was there ever saw.apirk72 said:Sure but 2 minutes of pure rock n roll0

You really expect a band to come out and say why they are now only playing 20-24 songs and only for 2 and a half hour rather then 30 songs at 3 hours?
What band has ever done that and why on Earth would they?
They have played festivals, battled illness, had substitute drummers, they are older, these are all legit reasons to play 5 less songs a night.
