At this point there isn't much I need from overseas sans cleaner and toilet paper considering we have the inept ability to make them.

For food?  That comes locally. Hopefully the truckers here are happy...

These truckers driving cross country on their own nickel must be indecently wealthy?

The article is about the trucker convoy protesting the covid mandates.

Thinking about quitting your job? If you are an American of a certain age — let’s say 55 or older — you might have thought about it. And if you are lucky enough to have alternatives and options, you’re likely doing more than just thinking about it.

Columnist Helaine Olen has been looking at the numbers, and what she found is striking: Baby boomers are making a beeline for the exits.  One study last fall found that more than half of the people who had left the workforce in the covid era are over 55. The Federal Reserve, Helaine notes, suggests the trend is quickening and older women are leading the way out the door. Helaine calls it “the Great Retirement.”

To this news, many younger workers are surely whispering, “It’s about time.” (And who can blame them?) But as they stack up, the departures are leaving an economy that is already desperately short of workers in difficult straits — and setting us up for what Helaine explains as other “gnarly issues” as well.

Let me know what you think, and thanks for reading.

    I'd love to retire.

the initial couple dozen semis that left LA would be in Texas or on the east side of the rockies. just depends on what their route actually is.

assume they are running empty or bobtail, so hos rules would not apply.

She was coming from AZ where they first met up and meeting again in Texas I believe.  When she was there she mentioned motorists and RV's joining in.  Mentioned nothing about disruption but they do plan on going all the way to DC.
  • Here is an update from my friend.

After a lot of really careful consideration, I am not going to make it up to meet up with the Convoy. I booked this load the other day coming to Arkansas because I misread and I thought they were coming across I-40, and that would have put me right in their path to meet with and run with them. But they are going up I-44 out of Oklahoma City. So that puts me no matter where I could meet up with them, from where I'm sitting now it would be 288 to 305 miles for me to drive to get to where they are. With diesel prices being over $4 a gallon here in Arkansas I don't want to do that to Leo. My boss is a really great guy!! He gave me the go-ahead a couple of hours ago to do it, but I can't in good conscience spend his money like that. He's been too good to me, and he's let me take time to do whatever it is I need to do off the road whenever I've needed to do it. So with that being said, I'm going to look for a load, and I'm going to put flags and Banners on my truck in support of my fellow truck drivers that are in the Convoy!!  it won't be the same as being there, but I can show my support for them!! Currently there are over 1,000 trucks cars motorhomes and motorcycles running in this Convoy making their way to Washington d.c.
People join in and run and leave and others join in and do the same. The photo of the trucks was taken today passing by the Route 66 Casino outside in Albuquerque New Mexico, it is very hard to see but if you look carefully looking towards the very back of that Convoy you can see it stretches back down the hill up the other Hill, and if you go up to the left hand corner of the photo you can see it way back there in the distance. I have seen video of overpasses with 50 or more people on top of the overpasses waving American flags Fire Department fire trucks up there with the crane of holding Flags I have seen cars going by with the People's Choice Convoy written on Windows. This is truly history in the making, for the truck drivers to finally come together and do what they are doing and the general public joining in. Tonight finds me exhausted. From yesterday afternoon straight through the night I drove on icy icy roads the entire time. I saw so many accidents and my trailer on numerous occasions was doing its own thing in the way slippin and slidin.. Have a great night, and be safe and stay warm!!

  • And folks are complaining about supply chain issues and inflation? Call me stupid but what exactly are the People’s Choice Convoy protesting? Please help me understand.
