A Texas couple wore face masks at a restaurant to protect their immunocompromised infant. The owner asked them to leave

(CNN)A Texas couple who landed themselves a rare night out with friends says it was cut short when the restaurant kicked them out for wearing face masks, which they say they wore to protect their immunocompromised 4-month-old son.

Natalie Wester and her husband, Jose Lopez-Guerrero, joined a group of friends at a restaurant and bar in Rowlett, about 20 miles northeast of Dallas, on September 10.
"We are new parents and in the middle of a pandemic, we don't really get out a whole lot," Wester told CNN. "But that Friday night, my mom happened to be available to watch our son. ... Living in a pandemic, being isolated and away from others is a big deal for our mental and social health."
Their infant has cystic fibrosis, they said, so they have taken precautions to stay safe and do what's best for their family, and that includes wearing a face mask in public except when drinking or eating.

"About 30 minutes in, our waitress comes over and she sits down next to me and she's like, 'Hey, so our manager is over there in the kitchen, and he is not as nice as I am so I came over here to talk to you and unfortunately, this is a political thing, but our manager does not believe in the mask. He's tired of being told what to do by, you know, politics in the country, and so you're going to need to take the mask off," Wester said.

haha, maybe he rethought his stance when his anti-vaxx songs failed to generate any sales and realized the music world didn't give two fucks if he cancelled his dates.
Screw EC & VM fans should throw masks on stage at their shows.

why was Clapton's racism swept under the carpet? I didn't hear anything about any of this anti-immigration bullshit until quite recently.

I get that, but in today's society, these things are usually brought to the forefront, especially when that person is in the news for other reasons.

I see.  I don't know.  Well for one,  he did apologize profusely for his on stage rant in the 70s. Second,  it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the particular topic of vaccines.

I'm not a puritan so I have no problems forgiving someone that apologized for an act 40 years ago.  If there's something more recent,  I'm not aware of it. But perhaps still off topic.

I do think Eric Clapton has always benefited from a reputation that doesn't recognize that he's kind of an ass. Not really sure why. Maybe it was his clean-cut look and heart-felt rendition of "Tears in Heaven" on MTV unplugged...

^ Me too, PJNB, glad you made it! Stop by the pool Encore Sunday and say hi before you head to the festival.

I'm biting nails for another week before our $260 (cheaper than PCR) antigen tests.

Michigan passes 1 million confirmed COVID-19 cases

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan has recorded more than 1 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, the health department said Wednesday.

The state crossed that threshold by reporting 6,079 new cases over the last two days. There have been at least 20,781 deaths in Michigan linked to COVID-19.

“After more than 18 months fighting this pandemic, it is sobering to reach the milestone of 1 million confirmed cases. ... I ask everyone who is eligible to be vaccinated as quickly as possible,” said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, Michigan’s chief medical executive.

Nearly 58% of eligible Michigan residents, 12 and older, are fully vaccinated, according to the health department.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan told The Detroit News that he believes a “major wave” of cases is coming this fall.

“If you combine a surge in patients with the difficulty filling staff," Duggan said, referring to hospitals, "I think we’re going to have a major problem in Michigan in the next couple of months.”

Less than 50% of eligible Detroit residents are fully vaccinated.

“When the COVID rate starts to climb in this state in the next month or two, you’re going to see what you saw in Florida — the vaccination rate is going to start to climb,” Duggan predicted.

Alaska outlines plans to help hospitals amid COVID-19 cases

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Alaska officials outlined plans Wednesday to help hospitals prioritize care if needed amid a surge in COVID-19 cases and announced short-term contracts for more than 400 health care personnel to relieve medical facilities with overtaxed staffs.

State health commissioner Adam Crum signed an addendum to a public health emergency order that he said provides guidance to hospitals, care providers and local health authorities if crisis standards of care are needed. They are guidelines for prioritizing care if hospital resources are overwhelmed.

He said providers will have access to committees that can “help them provide strategies and alternate tools in order to provide care.”

The department said hospitals or health care facilities can contact it if they think they need to implement crisis standards of care and a 15-member committee will meet and help provide guidance on options.

The document calls for the department to facilitate daily statewide meetings “to identify and prioritize transfers to available beds, treatments, and identify and mitigate gaps in the health care system."

Earlier this month, Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage implemented crisis standards, with Dr. Kristen Solana Walkinshaw, the hospital's chief of staff. She said the number of patients and level of care that they needed was exceeding the hospital's resources.
