Can't speak to comedy shows but Pearl Jam's lead singer had the most strict cellphone rules I have ever encountered at a show, before or since, back in 2012. This might be an improvement over that, but I'm not a fan of security being empowered to supervise this.

I assume you mean the solo shows? I always assumed this was becuase the shows were closer and more intimate, therefore the cell phones would be distracting. No one is strict like Tool.

Yes, Clearwater FL at the end of the tour. By then Ed had absolutely had it with the phones, which I do get, but the result was he empowered security to divebomb the seats. Guards were plowing through people to confiscate phones. This is during the supposedly intimate show. I've never had an experience like that.

The tour before that which EV did was similar. I thought it was fine but it was pretty darn aggressive. People were warned and - shocker - they did it anyway. Serves them right but it sucks for those who had their show disturbed because of the people who wanted to do what they wanted to do, regardless.

Sorry that Jazz Fest was cancelled. Such a great event with some many great artists.

I was at that show. At least I was at the N2, when he brought out his sister in law with her fiancee and such. Security was super tight across the board. I shoved the phone in my sock just to get it in. Didn't even think about trying to record after that.

Soon after, someone sent me complete footage from the Orlando show. He had it in the center, balcony front row. I haven't done anything with it, but great footage and pretty rare.

There was an asshole in front of me at the RHCP concert a few years ago. We were on the floor in reserved seats so there was no getting away from it.

He had his phone pointed at the stage the entire time except for when he was jumping around and turning around to talk to people...that video would have been unwatchable with all the movement. We kept hoping his battery would run out.

I don't personally have an issue with a person who does it and makes sure they don't block anyone else's view.

I think the artists might have a beef but that is not my problem - my problem is when it blocks people, like Gern was sharing.

*edit -- if they hold it to their side (making their body bigger/blocking more of the view from anyone behind) I still would give them that label.

yeah he had it above his head....in our site line the entire time until his battery ran out which seemed to take awhile.

He was a fucking idiot. It mostly pissed us off knowing that it would be unusable. He was just moving too much and talking loudly to the people next to him so sound or video would have been worthless.

If Eddie does not want cameras out then dont take your cameras out. Simple enough and show respect to the artist. That said in Taormina the people that decided to go against those wishes caused huge distractions. Not just because of their phone out but because as was mentioned above security coming and either removing them or shining a light in their face to tell them to stop. If he has a intimate show in the US again or a full tour just do what Jack White does with the phone in the locked bag trick. Very simple and easy.

I'm vaccinated and was comfortable attending Foo Fighters at MSG six weeks ago because vaccines were required of all fans. But with the recent data on breakthrough infections and increase in pediatric cases, I didn't want to risk being around thousands of people who may or may not be vaccinated and/or contagious and possibly getting a breakthrough infection which would endanger my unvaccinated child. If they had on-site tests of all attendees I probably would have gone.

Yeah the security people at the Tool concert got annoying because they were just constantly around us telling people to put their phones away. Probably still better than the alternative though.

Picture it....Sicily, 2011, ok Winnipeg, I'm Row 2 on the floor (seated) for Chris Cornell. D-bag in ROW FUCKING ONE had his cell phone recording the whole show above his head. Super distracting. Security did nothing. Third song in I told him to put the fuckin thing away. He got mad at me but put it away. Some people.

Fair enough on the kid front. I've relentlessly pursued data on pediatric COVID numbers since the start of this disaster. I have a healthy 10 year old and believe from what I have been able to find the risk is minimal. I know first hand dozens of children infected. Either through his school, friends or my wife's as she is a teacher. None of them ended up in the hospital or have experienced long COVID. So for me that's the data I trust, first hand. CA has reported nearly 500,000 COVID cases (Actual numbers are well into the millions) in the 17 and under group, 23 have died. Take those numbers however you choose, for me my child living some semblance of a normal life is priority #1. For others that may not be the case, I'm not here to judge. I intend on getting him vaccinated when the time comes but will NOT have him living in constant fear in the meantime. Childhood obesity, mental health, learning loss are all catastrophic problems COVID help accelerate in children. Kids get to be kids once, sacrificing years of their childhood will have serious consequences if this thing continues.
