Hey given to try, how do you propose running herd when we know folks can be asymptomatic and protecting those vulnerable populations you mention? Sound POOTWH logic right there, straight from the hollow. You living your life and booked that family vacation to India and/or Brazil yet? Or are you afraid of the other (insert LK locker room scene here)?gvn2fly1421 said:HughFreakingDillon said:

Maybe if y’all had worn your masks and stayed apart we wouldn’t have needed a vaccine. And from here on out, if you refuse to get the vaccine you are part of the group that owns the death and sickness. Pretty sure those numbers will be much higher than negative effects from the vaccine.
Has there been a study/theory on how many deaths may have occurred? I do remember early on that the prediction in the US would reach 2 million. Based on the facts we have now is there any better numbers?HughFreakingDillon said:

In a vacuum, yes, but not with so many people lacking basic human needs like food, water and shelter just to survive everyday. No way we would have stopped the spread due to healthcare and EMS needs alone. It would have been a slow trickle for far too long. I think we found a good middle ground with the restricted lockdowns and then limited services approach. It wasn't perfect and masking could have been implemented earlier, but then again, that could have created a shortage in the supply chain for healthcare before they could manage the early stage outbreaks. It's easy to be critical in hindsight.HughFreakingDillon said:

So I mention herd immunity, protecting the elderly, staying home if sick or symptomatic is the way I would have handled this thing. Still get shit over saying that, mainly by my buddy MaxiPad who just cannot seem to let it go, YET here we have Hugh doubling, nay, tripling down on the thought that we could have eradicated the virus by locking ourselves in our homes for three weeks and get's little resistance. Makes perfect sense.HughFreakingDillon said:

I could continue because the examples are endless, lets not make this a Democrat vs Republican thing, its more an elite or ruling class against the rest of us. As to the vaccine, I would love to see the numbers on the people who have gotten the vaccine who preach vaccine hesitancy, as I would love to see the numbers of the people who have not gotten the vaccine that have been brow-beating us for months to take it. It would probably be eye opening.
Edited to add, these people have more information than we will ever have or ever want to know, why again should I be worried about the virus if they are truly not worried about the virus and not following their own guidelines and restrictions?

Reading is hard huh? You left out the maybe. We will never know how effective we could have been in containing this prior to the vaccine. Care to comment on the actual post or nah? Cincy seems to suggest that if "y'all had worn masks and stayed apart we wouldn't have needed a vaccine", with "y'all" of course referring to the Qtards, trumplicans, Grand POOBAH, and whatever other cute names you have around here. But it turns out, the ones imposing all these lockdowns and restrictions were the ones not following them. Crazy huh? Rules are for thee, not for me.hippiemom = goodness0 -
And yes, the trump admin and the stupid medical people and especially the CDC in the beginning with their nonsense about not wearing masks (because they were afraid people would buy them all up and medical professionals wouldn’t have them) caused a shit ton of this nonsense in the USA.hippiemom = goodness0

we can blame all we want in hindsight, but this was something that no one alive went through before. there was no way to predict how the public would react or what supplies would be needed next month next week next day, or what the ramifications would be from one seemingly inane decision. looking back it does seem a bit silly that our chief national public health officer Dr Tamm said "no masks" and then what seemed like the following minute said "yes masks". everyone was learning in real time, including the scientists and medical professionals. I think they deserve a bit of a break on this.cincybearcat said:And yes, the trump admin and the stupid medical people and especially the CDC in the beginning with their nonsense about not wearing masks (because they were afraid people would buy them all up and medical professionals wouldn’t have them) caused a shit ton of this nonsense in the USA.

There is a lot of leeway to be given to people on new viruses. The mask guidance that ended up killing our shot of effective management from the get go doesn’t fit into that. It was dumb at the time and worse in hindsight.HughFreakingDillon said:

"For many Americans that guidance has been difficult to abide, including for Birx herself. The day after Thanksgiving, she traveled to one of her vacation properties on Fenwick Island in Delaware. She was accompanied by three generations of her family from two households. Birx, her husband Paige Reffe, a daughter, son-in-law and two young grandchildren were present.
Gavin Newsom, California Governor who banned all indoor dining and enacted some of the strictest rules in the US, was having dinner indoors with members of the California Medical Association.
"LOS ANGELES - FOX 11 obtained exclusive photos on Tuesday night of Governor Gavin Newsom allegedly eating at the French Laundry restaurant in Yountville, California at a dinner party he attended on November 6 not following his own COVID-19 protocols he set forth for the state."
Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker, maskless while getting her hair done violating San Fran restrictions.

"(CNN)House Speaker Nancy Pelosi got her hair styled Monday inside a San Francisco hair salon, her office said in a statement Tuesday, an apparent violation of the city's Covid-19 safety regulations that enraged the salon's owner."
Jim Kenney, mayor of Philadelphia, banned indoor dining in his city, but that did not stop him from enjoying some crab cakes in Maryland.
Steve Adler, mayor of Austin, threatened his own residents with stricter lockdowns while he was vacationing in Cabo. Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I want to take you...
Apology at 11:45.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JWOC86zF7AAndrew Cuomo, Governor of New York and brother of Chris Cuomo (who allegedly received special treatment himself) was always a big proponent of mask wearing. Except that time, he wasn't. He also didn't self quarantine when he returned either, because he's essential.
Care to comment on the actual post or nah? Cincy seems to suggest that if "y'all had worn masks and stayed apart we wouldn't have needed a vaccine", with "y'all" of course referring to the Qtards, trumplicans, Grand POOBAH, and whatever other cute names you have around here. But it turns out, the ones imposing all these lockdowns and restrictions were the ones not following them. Crazy huh? Rules are for thee, not for me.

Only our very own Dr. Fauci new from the very beginning that masks were not and never going to be the answer. Have you read through his emails that came after a FOIA request?cincybearcat said:
There is a lot of leeway to be given to people on new viruses. The mask guidance that ended up killing our shot of effective management from the get go doesn’t fit into that. It was dumb at the time and worse in hindsight.HughFreakingDillon said:
we can blame all we want in hindsight, but this was something that no one alive went through before. there was no way to predict how the public would react or what supplies would be needed next month next week next day, or what the ramifications would be from one seemingly inane decision. looking back it does seem a bit silly that our chief national public health officer Dr Tamm said "no masks" and then what seemed like the following minute said "yes masks". everyone was learning in real time, including the scientists and medical professionals.
I just find it incredible how so many people jump down the throats of those who were supposedly supposed to know everything with a NEW virus.

How damning. It's 8am and I'm angry again. I wonder what people on Twitter think this morning.gvn2fly1421 said:

How about this hot off the presses JAMA research letter on the effects of masking our kids. I think the ink is still drying on this one.
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/fullarticle/2781743Research LetterJune 30, 2021Experimental Assessment of Carbon Dioxide Content in Inhaled Air With or Without Face Masks in Healthy ChildrenA Randomized Clinical Trial
Many governments have made nose and mouth covering or face masks compulsory for schoolchildren. The evidence base for this is weak.1,2 The question whether nose and mouth covering increases carbon dioxide in inhaled air is crucial. A large-scale survey3 in Germany of adverse effects in parents and children using data of 25 930 children has shown that 68% of the participating children had problems when wearing nose and mouth coverings.
The normal content of carbon dioxide in the open is about 0.04% by volume (ie, 400 ppm). A level of 0.2% by volume or 2000 ppm is the limit for closed rooms according to the German Federal Environmental Office, and everything beyond this level is unacceptable.4
DiscussionThe limitations of the study were its short-term nature in a laboratory-like setting and the fact that children were not occupied during measurements and might have been apprehensive. Most of the complaints reported by children3 can be understood as consequences of elevated carbon dioxide levels in inhaled air. This is because of the dead-space volume of the masks, which collects exhaled carbon dioxide quickly after a short time. This carbon dioxide mixes with fresh air and elevates the carbon dioxide content of inhaled air under the mask, and this was more pronounced in this study for younger children.
This leads in turn to impairments attributable to hypercapnia. A recent review6 concluded that there was ample evidence for adverse effects of wearing such masks. We suggest that decision-makers weigh the hard evidence produced by these experimental measurements accordingly, which suggest that children should not be forced to wear face masks.

On one hand, I really wish they hadn’t come out with that advice at the beginning. On the other hand, I really blame people that are unable to adjust to those kind of changes. People should be able to understand that opinions on science can change rather than just using the change is a lame excuse to not participate in society.cincybearcat said:

It's not like they had decades to study this virus, it was only discovered in November of '19.0
