I have hinted at it a few times here but the bourbon situation is dumb and people are fucking dorks. The collecting, hoarding and secondary market for something you drink is annoying as shit.  Got an email from the PA state store for weller, old fitz and other cousins of pappy. Of course it wasn’t an option within 10 minutes of getting the email.  Then weller 12 is $350 online. Get the fuck outta here.

I think I’ll stick to makers, Buffalo trace and drink nice scotch. Not contributing to that bullshit
Agree 100%.  What scotch are you into?  I’ve got six bottles right now and looking to get more.
Dalmore is a one of my favourites. Also the Balvenie 12-year-old but I’ve seen you’ve already tapped into one of those bottles. The Balvenie single barrel is a nice one as well

I never had a highland before, I'm gonna have to look for it.  Bought a bottle of Laphoraig 10 yesterday.  They had Lagavulin 16 year for $71.99; I never had it before.  Worth a try?
The Balvenie is a highland scotch.
I don’t mind a little bit of peat but not a fan of Smokey whiskey so I tend to stay away from the islay scotches.
I’m getting thirsty now. Thanks god it’s Friday.lol
I thought Balvenie was a speyside?
You are right. For some reason I thought it was a highland

Yeah man. Same, which is why I’m doing this. I was alright about not drinking during the week, but work would be brutal (which obviously no complaints), but I’d get to the weekend and drink my face off. A little break does a body good

Nah. Not dumb at all. Good to hit reset and take a break from time to time.  Good for you

I just bought old fashioned mix off of amazon.  Never had one before, any tips/suggestions?  Garnish with a cherry?  Orange?

Whatever you use to sweeten it (simple syrup or sugar cubes), go light.  That is my recommendation.  Heavy bourbon, lighter on the sweetener, few dashes of orange Bitters and/or Bitters.  A lot of bars prepare them way too sweet imo.  A well prepared old fashioned is outstanding though.

Oh, and I use Bulleit bourbon mostly.  Can go any direction you like, but it's a good one for an old fashioned.

I totally agree.  I think most bars that make them use simple syrup and use too much of it.  A quality bar that takes the time to make a quality Old Fashioned can't be beat.

I'm def gonna make one later!  Mmmm!

My mom got me a Lagavulin for my birthday.  It's not too bad!
I am still a big fan of Glenlivet.  I know it's not special, but it just finishes so damn smooth.
Lately I've been drinking more cachaça than anything.  It mixes well with anything and it's just uniquely delicious.  My local liquor joint carries 51, but I've been on the hunt for a Velho Barreiro...not sure it's even sold in the states.

Nothing flashy about it, but it knocks back real nice.  Not a bourbon out there that I would prefer more, and it's incredibly affordable too.

I'm thinking that's an Old Fashioned and not just straight bourbon.

Yes it is an old fashion made with Buffalo trace. I  Forgot to include that, duh.   I enjoyed it but was good with one.

Do you do an iced rock sphere or actual ice?

Reason I ask is the flavor of it can change dramatically being cold and excess water.  In the end it's how you like it.

Wish they would price them higher retail. I said it a few pages back, but the bourbon and weller situation in general is incredibly frustrating and dumb. People suck

Lagavulin and Jason Isbell pair well when you're drinking alone.

Actual ice. It dilutes it a bit but I like it.
