    Masks only prevent some of the spread. You can wear a mask and constantly sanitize/wash your hands and still get it. A lot of people are doing everything right and get sick. You’re not preventing it, you’re just reducing the risk.
    I'd be interested to see the numbers on how many people who are "doing it right" that actually get it? I don't know of anyone who maintained 6 feet, wore a quality mask properly and was good about hand washing who got it. Everyone I have contact traced at work or personally know failed at one or all of those criteria. Obviously certain professions are required to be within 6 feet so there's not much they can do, but nearly 100% of cases I know are social gathering related.
    How many do you know who got it? For me that sample is too small to draw any conclusions about doing right or not. 
    Obviously a mask and everything else helps, just seems like unless you just don’t leave the house you’re still at risk. I would imagine most who get it did have some high risk behavior, but I have no doubt there’s those who unlucky with the wrong place wrong time. Maybe I just opened to fridge door to get milk at the grocery store and accidentally scratch my face without thinking about it before I had a chance to sanitize. That can’t be that rare.

    We here are an island of 65 million still getting 30.000 a day and 500+deaths a day. And we are in "lockdown#2" which is not a real lockdown. As our fuckin knob head citizens  wont  be locked down again properly. Oh no we will pretend all these people  are just  a number. 
    We wont shut or remote learn school and wont shut airports or anywhere it obvs spreads fast. No no.

    lot of people making noise in my neck of the woods about "why can kids go to school but the restaurants and bars have to close?". because, geniuses, the kids actually fucking listen to protocols and take direction seriously, where the adults don't. there's a reason there's very few cases in our schools and kids getting infected. it's all the stupid fucking adults that can't stay home and have a zoom happy hour.

    Interested to hear from those who support a lockdown. Haven't other countries with much less selfish populations tried and essentially failed with lockdowns? Do you expect people to first of all respect the lockdown and secondly if they do to change their behavior once it ends? Your just plugging an enormous wound with a band aid and when it's ripped off in 4-6 weeks the bleeding continues, only worse. It's a sick and tragic thought but the only way a lot of Americans are going to be "vaccinated" is by becoming infected. Can anybody really guess where we are at right now? Sure 150k confirmed daily cases but I can't imagine we are even capturing 50% of the true number. The WHO, CDC and others were using the 10% number most of the summer. Just for kicks I'm going to call the real number 300k which is probably still low. That's 2.1 million cases per week or 50 plus million over the next 6 months. I don't support a herd strategy but its where we are headed. Nobody will ever know but I'm willing to guess that we will be close to 25% herd immunity by next April, potentially much higher. Personally if one of these vaccines is 90%ish effective and my family is vaccinated along with everyone in our country that wants to be then its game over. The morons who don't want to get vaccinated cannot be the reason why we don't get back to rebuilding this country, our mental state, our quality of life. I believe we get to that point sometime next fall. Until then lets just hope our hospitals and those in harms way don't get steamrolled by the wave of stupidity that's building.

    I don't have kids or truly understand how they're behaving but my gut reaction would be that kids might be worse than adults. Or, rather that kids would be better than petulant/obstinate adults but not as good as responsible adults.  In any case, I agree that "what about schools?" is a lame deflection. They can talk about whether or not in-person school is a good idea but it's neither here nor there for validating hanging out in bars.
