Each of us, as citizens of our respective countries, communities and families have a choice right now. You can be a cynic and negative about everything that is wrong with our country and world, or you can be positive and focus on what is actually good about it and what we do well...which is a fucking lot. That's something you control with your families, co-workers and neighbors. If you think the world is ending, well it's probably fucking ending for you. I'm not going down that path.0

America where we value all lives but we value some lives more than others at different times based on political expediency. that's where I live. I don't think anyone has ever said that we should make any of those decisions unless absolutely necessary. I'm sorry I don't have the faith that the government here is going to do anything to help. Some people are going to lose everything this month more the following and more after that. I'm not talking about the people who took a hit at the stock market, or IRAs, I'm talking about people living paycheck to paycheck, or people that only have enough socked away to cover a couple months without being able to earn anything, not to mention people that are in a worse state than that. The real question is that at the current pace we are on how long can we sustain a shut down. Even if the government puts a hold on rent payments or bills where will that leave us 4,6, 8,12 months down the road? You think that corporations, banks and landlords are going to forgive those months? no. Thus some people will have to spend the better part of the rest of the year once they can earn, to pay their past due bills, which will lead to a longer economic recovery. That is if anything is done at all with the current bunch of political charlatans that are running the show on a federal level. Of course it isn't going to be an easy choice for anyone, you think I want my mom or dad to die, or yours or you or anyone that as at risk, hell no. There are millions of people economically vulnerable right now without the means to isolate and weather this quarantine. What are we supposed to do....go further and further into the hole, until what point? I realize some people may be able to handle financial inactivity for 12-18 months, but a majority of Americans, and global citizens can't.Post edited by static111 onScio me nihil scire

We're facing the greatest crisis of any of our lifetimes, yet it's the same old political bullshit by these ass holes. Both parties disgust me and they continue to do the same old political tap dance with millions of lives and livelihoods at stake. Get a clue, Washington.

I'm not going down that path. This is what I'm focused on these days. It's true certainly true that as a nation, as a world, we have our faults- some of them are huge and on-going- but this is not a time for quarreling and being in a doom and gloom state of mind. We can look back at our history and see other times of great distress- the Spanish Flu, the World Wars, the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression. During those times, some people gave up hope or jumped off bridges or did terrible things. But many people (I'm thinking of my folks and people like them during WWII), bucked up, knuckled down and took care of business the best they could. This is our time. We are in one of those monumental moments in history. We can do it right and goo down in the history books and look like courageous people, or we can buckle under, fair poorly, and look bad. I'd like to see us do it right and not cave in to despair.

Truck manufacturer Scania has sent production and logistics personnel to Getinge, to help the medical technology company to rapidly increase the production of respirators.- We all need to help out, says Scania's CEO Henrik Henriksson.
/.../
Of the thousands of Scania employees who are now laid off when the factories are closed, some 50 people have been assigned to work for Getinge to increase their production of respirators.- It's about Getinge having to increase its production dramatically and then we would like to help and we have good skills that are available when it comes to running logistics flows, says Henriksson."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -

Not to make light of the situation, but I couldn't help but hearing Sean Astin's voice in The Goonies. "Down here it's our time, it's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket."

Olympics postponed. I remember the original COVID thread on the porch about the NA tour. People got blasted for thinking this would delay the shows or Olympics. I wish they were right.
