I guess I’m the only one who thought this was a good move. We don’t need war, and we don’t need people to die over a freaking drone.
we need to impose more sanctions and squeeze them until their people revolt like Venezuela and get that terrorist govt out of there. We didn't give them money, we released frozen assets. The JCPOA was working and they were in compliance, until Trump pulled out of the deal. And you know damn well he only left the deal because it was Obama's. Trump would (rightly) do anything to get that same deal with NK, but there's no chance of that. No, you don’t release frozen assets to tyrannical govts, because they’ll use it in the wrong ways. That was a pay off to push the inevitable further down the line and appease them. The whole deal was ya just allowing and ok-ing their poor behaviors. They’re being punished already by sanctions, but to those that say we shouldn’t punish more are silly, you don’t let your kid behave poorly, you take away their phone. You need to put down a punishment or you’re walked all over. Avoiding military conflict is the most important thing, and I don’t think trump is a war guy, so that’s good. I believe you're conflating two different issues. State sponsored terrorism is a different problem than nuclear proliferation. The administration's objective was to stop the enrichment process, which is a far greater danger to the region and the world than terrorist cells. By any measure, until the day the treaty was ripped up, that was successful. The term of the JCPOA was 15 years, so some people said, well that's kicking the can down the road. And it was, but rationally. The hope was to bring them into the first world by virtue of the old line revolutionary guard leaving power in the next 15 years, which they should as they are old. In order to get a deal with someone, you have to give up something. You can't just let them be a nuclear power though. That will de-stabilize the region in the near term and then be a threat to us and continental Europe within a few years after that. This should be the primary objective and it's the very reason for the JCPOA. Removing the economic interest is not the solution.RoleModelsinBlood31 said:

I don't buy that bullshit line anymore. Iran is building a nuclear bomb with or without an agreement. And it's not up to America to decide who gets the bomb or not. And that region has been unstable as long as I can remember...caused mostly by the west...

I agree that sanctions move the population closer to the gov't and away from the west, but according to the enforcement agencies, Iran was in compliance, therefore sanctions were off. Seems like it was working. I disagree with you that we have no interest in trying to reduce proliferation. I think our allies in SK, Japan and throughout SE Asia would be mortified if we took that position. I agree that sanctions move the population closer to the gov't and away from the west, but according to the enforcement agencies, Iran was in compliance, therefore sanctions were off. Seems like it was working. I disagree with you that we have no interest in trying to reduce proliferation. I think our allies in SK, Japan and throughout SE Asia would be mortified if we took that position.
