All those old TV shows suck lol
3 second corny reatread jokes followed by 10 seconds fake studio laughter.  Repeat ad nauseum.
Everything formulaic and stiff and nothing of real life to be found.  It's no wonder reality TV caught on after decades of animatronic humans on TV.

Oh geez, those were the straws that broke TV's back and resulted in The Real World...the rest is history, unfortunately.

Pro-tip: If you need a laugh-track to signify a joke was just made...it probably wasn't very funny.

I can barely tolerate any shows with a laugh-track.

You musn't like any show from the 50-s to the 70's and some of the 80's then?

A laugh track was used on every single one of those sitcoms.

Nope they pretty much all suck.  I like cheese on my dinner plate, not in my ears and eyes.
MASH is a classic I can tolerate.  That 70's Show was funny, but it's just hard to go back and sit through the laugh tracks cutting literal minutes of entertainment out of shows for dead space.
After shows like South Park and Family Guy came out, the old stuff started to show how slow and humorless it really was.
When you get used to sitcoms like those and Archer, Rick and Morty, Always Sunny, Workaholics, etc etc, the slow speed and lack of jokes in the old guard becomes intolerable.
It also makes shows like Big Bang Theory look pathetic.  48 seconds wasted on another Kuthrapali is effeminate joke?
Another minute lost to Howard being a VERY tired Jewish stereotype?  No thanks.

Did Soap have a laugh track?  I loved that show when I was young.

Always Sunny reminds me of SNL, it's hit or miss.

Big Bang actually got bad at the end.  Last few years were not as good but the sitcoms are drying up.

Have you ever watched Life in Pieces, Modern Family, Mom, New Girl or 2 Broke Girls?  These have been my fav comedies.

Modern Family yes and it's been a fun one...no laugh track either.
    The others I haven't seen.

I never watched Young Sheldon, but it seems like a funny concept. Sheldon from BBT is one of my favorite characters for sure.

My youngest is high functioning autistic who excels in everything intellectual (seriously off the charts) but is a bit quirky hence my connection to young Sheldon.

Oh, that’s cool. I always admire highly intellectual people. I think probably because I’m an idiot.

i blame OJ for the kardashians. if he hadntve murdered his wife and her friend the chances are extremely high that wed never have come to know the kardashians.  that alone should keep him in jail for ever. ;):)
I actually enjoy watching the kardashians.  It s mindless entertaining tv.
'reality' television makes my head hurt. its sole purpose is to dumb down the people. it is how those in power get away with the bullshit they do.
Dumb down the people? That seems pretty arrogant to me.  I don't think I get any less intelligent after watching these shows. After teaching all day and taking care of my kids I enjoy watching mindless tv that makes me smile and laugh.
that's because it is arrogant. no different than people who slag on fans of nickelback or justin beiber while extolling the "genius" of radiohead.  you like what you like (full disclosure: I hate NB and JB and like RH, but I don't judge those that have different tastes). and lots of people need in their down time the opposite of their up time; in your case, you are intellectually engaged all day, so it makes sense you want to be mindlessly entertained in your down time.

I have no idea how reality tv has anything to do with people in power getting away with shit. people have always needed an escape from daily life.  the fact I used to watch survivor or the apprentice has zero to do with how engaged I am as a citizen.
    Agree with you 100% bud.

thats great that you dont feel dumbed down and less engaged by 'reality' tv... but then you are not who i was speaking about. but for some reason you felt challenged.. why was that? i for one, when someone levels a generalisation at an audience dont feel slighted if i know it doesnt apply to me.  but yes i will apologise for my generalist statement... tho it doesnt change the fact why 'reality' tv is so prevalent.
im not sure how it goes in your countries but here in australia, our news is being watered down(it is all about personalities(both as subject and commentator), our tv schedules(at last look) were being inundated with so called reality shows because they are cheap to make and have no real substance, and appear to suck the people in(something i have been guilty of in the past). ironically 'reality' tv (and i speak generally again here)they distracts the people from the realities of life by replacing 'hard hitting' content with  fairy floss(cotton candy). its like junk foood for the brain. the overwhelming majority of reality shows i have seen in the past hinge on some sort of drama to keep the audience glued and on hightened alert  about what will come next(kinda like a terrorist threat alert system). it all seems so mindless to me.. and yes i get thats why people watch tv... for the escape, the distraction. but i do stand by my statement that reality tv is used to dumb down the people. i have no doubt that more people can tell you the intricacies of the lives of the kardashians or who the scheming bitch is on the bachelor, than can hold a conversation about what is going on in regards to their governments policy and the world at large(which only benefits the government and their shonky friends).   im ok with knowing why  tv networks  program the shows they do. if that makes me arrogant in your opinion, then so be it.
