    that's because it is arrogant. no different than people who slag on fans of nickelback or justin beiber while extolling the "genius" of radiohead.  you like what you like (full disclosure: I hate NB and JB and like RH, but I don't judge those that have different tastes). and lots of people need in their down time the opposite of their up time; in your case, you are intellectually engaged all day, so it makes sense you want to be mindlessly entertained in your down time.

    I have no idea how reality tv has anything to do with people in power getting away with shit. people have always needed an escape from daily life.  the fact I used to watch survivor or the apprentice has zero to do with how engaged I am as a citizen.

    Is that the purpose of the reality TV industry?  And if somehow so, intent doesn't necessarily equate to outcome.  I need the distraction sometimes. I welcome it.  I need to just turn off the heavy shit in my mind and think outside of myself for awhile.

    I may also turn to video games (the violence!) and crossword puzzles (gold star?).

    It's OK if folks want to roll their eyes at me; I'm pretty OK with myself these days.  With my intelligence too.

    I'm not really sure how the pulling-one-over-on-us power thing is related, though.
