I believe that her so-called brashness wouldn't be mentioned the way it is if she were a he though. We all know that a woman's behaviour is much more harshly judge than when it's coming from a man. I know you know the deal: He's assertive, she's a bitch. He's passionate, she's unhinged. And so on.
But aside from that... I just don't think she's brash, lol. I'm not really sure why she is being labelled like that. She's blunt, which is good. She's excitable/passionate/energetic, which is good. She's angry about things worth being angry about, which is good. She's confrontational with those who need to be confronted, which is good...
That’s a  good question. I feel like the republicans would not care about her brashness if she was a man and a republican.

i mean how did people view Chris Christie etc on the opposite side of the political system?

But I also think it’s weak sauce to claim that anyone that disagrees with a female politician is just doing so cause it’s a she. I find Bernie more annoying that AOC, But I still find her annoying too! Lots of annoying politicians though.
But who here is bitching about Bernie? Nobody that I can tell. Just level headed pro or con. AOC though? Bitching meter is cranked, yo!

Shes 1 of 435 and most likely doesn’t represent any of us posting. Why the kerfluffle, then?

what other politicians do you find annoying? Of the lots?
    Definitely Lindsay graham.
Agreed. Is there a Lindsey Graham thread with 49 pages? Why is that?

well, gee, it MUST be cuz she has a vagina.

or, it could be that she is a polarizing figure, got a ton of media attention because of who she beat, and how, and her background. waitress to congress.

no, it can't be any of that.
Duh cause someone here lumps everyone with trump and they are all in The trump thread.

My point exactly and yet some on here can’t let her go while the long term senator and former Air Force lawyer encourages criminals to ignore subpoenas. Who’s more of a threat or a legitimate concern? AOC with her idealism, sass and wardrobe or that fine senator from South Carolina?

So snitty around here. And for the record, I don’t know who she beat in the primary and general. I’d have to look it up. Funny obsessions in these parts. Maybe it’s her looks?

Not too shabby for the youngest woman ever elected to Congress.

No one wants to talk about Graham.  Who's going to defend him? There's no fun in that.  This place would suck if we all agreed.

Who did she beat? Primary and general, without looking it up.

Who gives a shit? It was one of 435 elections.
My point exactly and yet some on here can’t let her go while the long term senator and former Air Force lawyer encourages criminals to ignore subpoenas. Who’s more of a threat or a legitimate concern? AOC with her idealism, sass and wardrobe or that fine senator from South Carolina?

how is asking the question then agreeing it doesn't matter turn to "my point exactly"?

this thread is about AOC, not anyone else, so your deflection has zero to do with the topic.

So snitty around here. And for the record, I don’t know who she beat in the primary and general. I’d have to look it up. Funny obsessions in these parts. Maybe it’s her looks?
so what was the point in asking? and who is obsessing?

she is gorgeous. but that has nothing to do with my opinion of her.

Hmmm...Rand Paul, trump, dick Cheney, Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell, grassley, that Iowa female I can’t rememwbr her name... most of the ones I watch on meet the press and face the nation... from the “other side” Bernie, Biden, Warren, Feinstein, waters, pelosi, lots others.
Let’s make it easy, which few politicians don’t annoy you?

Hmmm now that is a tougher question ;)

This is the latest conservative hang up for AOC's tweets on the Alabama ruling of abortion.
    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ocasio-cortez-blames-twitter-space-limits-after-called-out-for-spreading-misinformation-about-alabamas-pro-life-law

What better source to show the disdain than FOX, right?

nope. but the way it was worded could leave it open to interpretation. after reading it a few times, it is easy to see how the right would interpret it the way some of them did.

I really don't see how it can be read any way other than what was described by that Fox article.

"Alabama lawmakers are making all abortions a felony punishable w jailtime, incl women victimized by rape+incest."

She is clearly saying women who are rape victims will be punished, she mentions women and not "cases of rape" as she later claimed. And instead of admitting she  was wrong, she's blaming the character limits on twitter.  At the very least it was extremely poorly worded, take the blame for that at least.

it would be the same for me, but of course, i know what you mean.

now, i should quantify, i haven't watched many videos of her until today. i found her brash and annoying on social media (which i did mention in my original assessment), but watching her on the floor, i do admire her tenacity and how well she knows the issues. and the videos i have watched (only a couple) she has been level headed but challenging.
Try watching "Knock Down The House" on Netflix. I think you might find it interesting?

Im on the left and it's absolutely worded poorly. It leaves a distinct impression that the woman would be prosecuted.

Here's the thing I've decided about her.  While she may have the direction right,  she is terrible at details,  either intentionally or intentionally.

    1. When Amazon pulled back from NYC, she declared that the taxpayers were saved 3 billion.  This was false.  Amazon was to receive a subsidy.
    2. Yesterday,  she rightly called out Merck on truvada prices,  but declared they had 2 billion in profits.  No,  they had 2 billion in revenue.  Big difference.
    3. Now this

I don't know if she and her staff don't monitor details or choose to embellish.  Either way,  it hurts her credibility.

I think they would. I feel her young age and her somewhat "rogue" way of doing things has garnered her more attention (both negative and positive) than her gender does. The reason the GOP is "fixated" on her isn't because, as I've seen many suggest, she's a strong intelligent woman and that frightens old, white, male senators. Rather, I think the GOP has recognized that she's a perfect punching bag. And she is. While most freshman congressfolk are virtually unknown, she's a celebrity, and her popularity enables the GOP to suggest that she's speaking for the entire democratic party. So Hannity (or whoever) can attribute something like the Green New Deal to the entire party even when that's false, and make the entire party look bad (to him anyway) rather than just one freshman congresswoman.
