My problem with this latest AOC headline is her use of the word "accosted." I've only read the reports, wasn't there. But according to the reports, someone called her disgusting, maybe a bitch. Since when is that "accosting" someone? Did the guy hit her? Grab her, push her, pull her hair? I thought that's what the word "accost" means. I mean, are there some sticks and stones, or are we only dealing with words here? When did saying something disagreeable and rude become an act of violence?
to approach and speak to (someone) in an often challenging or aggressive way

Yeah, I should have looked it up when I first heard about her latest grievance. Seems ironic to me. There are a lot of people accosting each other in the world right now. Seriously a both side-ism.

Truth. It's only accosted now, there is no talking.
So it’s ok to address a woman as a “F’n Bitch” that’s what the dude said
No, it's not okay. That is not what I'm saying at all. I had a question about the word "accosted" which I confused with "assaulted" . . . but somehow it doesn't seem to matter. It is now a cultural norm to turn to Twitter to air all of our grievances, forcing people on that sewage drain to take sides. In an older day, people might have had some disagreements, had some heated words, vented about it with friends and families when they got home, and then moved on. Now it's a perpetual cycle of who can get more angry than the next person, who can get more likes and shares for being angry. I'm not on Twitter. If I were, I imagine I would look at AOC's thread and see that the dude called her a bitch and then her supporters called him equally offensive names and nothing comes out of that except a bunch of angry people spreading their anger like flames in a California forest. That in a nutshell is AOC's brand.
I quit social media when the violence started this summer. It was turning me into a person I did not want to be -- anxious, depressed, angry. I finally decided I could no longer stomach enriching the technocrats who have become billionaires several times over by turning the American people against each other, by undermining our democracy.
Dude was out of line with the language but Ocasio is out of hers with that reasoning.
Well, I wonder what the repub congressman blames for the uptick in shootings and crime in NYC? Was AOC out of line with her explanation, oversimplified as it was? Was there any truth to her statement(s)? I can think of several things to blame for the crime surge, inclusive of "responsible" gun owners.
This is where AOC is wrong.
Shootings here are done with stolen guns. So those people doing the shootings are not responsible gun owners.
Your comments are ridiculous sometimes.
Let's hear your "why" on the crime surge. I'm all ears.
As it relates to NYC and a surge in gun crime:
Pandemic + 20.4% unemployment (primarily Black & Latino and lower economic scale) + close to 33,000 covid deaths (3-1 Black/Latino : white. How many heads of households or primary caregivers/providers?) + Riker's Island and jails releasing violent criminals awaiting trial due to covid spread + Summer months with youths aged 16-20 not in school and outside with increased drug/gang activity + NYCPD unable to deal with being criticized for being called out on busting heads and choking people to death, with the people and their elected leaders calling for reform, resulting in a "work" slow down and reluctance to make arrests (how many on here work in an organization/department, get criticized or told to do a better job and respond by pouting or slowing down your work effort?) + Pent up frustration with a predominately white power structure that limits opportunity for minorities via all kinds of reasons, too much to get into, and the George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery killings + a flood of guns from "responsible" gun owners (up 42% in NY State for the month of March 2019 vs. 2020; Up 88% in FL; 135% GA; 90% SC; 127% NC; 82% VA; 98% MD; 80% DE; 31% PA; 20% NJ [what's up with NJ?}, for a total of 993,745 firearms sold in March 2020 that we know about) you know, the Iron Pipeline?
Why is this being brought up on the House floor? Wasn't this an isolated incident?
I'm curious as to why and don't need to go on how it was wrong of him to do.
She was responding to his "apology" on the House floor of yesterday. You know, the hallowed halls of Congress where the discourse and the agree to disagree is supposed to be civil? As opposed to in passing out of doors when its more difficult to manage what you really think and want to say?

Did not know he apologized on the house floor. Missed that one.
Stop pandering about the floor being civil. That stopped a long time ago.

He didn’t apologize. He made excuses. How often has “f-ing bitch” been uttered on the floor? He would have been censored for that had he called her that on the floor and roundly condemned by both parties’ members.
”Pandering?” Who am I pandering too? Does that make me a panderer?

Interesting take.
My take on the surge of crime? When the plain clothes unit was disbanded, overnight the shootings went up. Almost instantly. I seriously believe that the cops were told to start "reporting every shooting" so the public would see that defunding the police or disbanding certain departments is bad for civilians.
I can not prove this. It's just a theory. When a shooting happened before and no one was injured, no body, nobody cares, no paperwork. Now it means something.

I don't follow AOC and had never heard of Yoho before this incident, so I checked her Twitter to get a first hand take of her "craziness" as described by some here. Definitely not bad like some have referenced. She even asks media to correct inaccurate reporting, both about her and Yoho. She's definitely outspoken, but I didn't see anything even close to Trump level postings. A lot of assumptions being made in this thread.

We are discussing, actually Fax and I are, what she said about people in NY stealing and their reason for it.
Allowing police intervention when people are burning, spray painting, and damaging buildings/ businesses as well as tearing down statues and monuments (excluding Confederate figures) is different than breaking up protests protected by the First Amendment. Telling law enforcement to stand down while these crimes take place will only perpetuate the problem.
Is that what the Portland mayor was doing last night when he was gassed?
Oh, because of that all the damage and nonsense is ok!!!!
Please, the moment leaders started painting their own streets they gave license to all these vandals to do what they continue to do. All in an effort to own the other side. Sounds just like the dipshit everyone here says they hate but seem to like the actions when taken by others against him.
Please don't equate me with the "dipshit." Not even close. Thank you.
Ummm what? I was comparing those “leaders” more concerned with owning trump then leading.

She is the new target of hate by the right.
Crazy that she looks out for her constituents, has worked as a bar tender and waitress, blue collar you might say, took on an entrenched member of Congress, won the primary and general and went to Congress and dares to think of a different future and speak up and out and challenge the white power brokers. Absolutely insane, what the hell has happened to this country? She’s one of 435 but BOO! Or is it boo hoo hoo? The repubs and their Deplorables can’t stand it. Can’t. Stand. It.
^ I know plenty of liberals that are more towards center that don’t like her either. It’s not just republicans that are not raving fans.
I’m not sure anyone here is a raving fan. Like some though, I question the vilification and hatred exhibited toward her. She’s kicked ass to get where she is and is idealistic, wow. Who would you and your lib friends rather have represent you? AOC or Matt Gets?

As I know many liberals and many on the left who hated Hilary.
There are legit reasons to dislike both, but the hate and vitriol started on her early from the right and it ends up seeping into the people on the left.

👋 did someone say raving fan? Yep of her and the entire squad. We need more young women with great ideas To help us get out of this downward slide we’ve been in since the days of Nixon.
republicans don't like her because she is everything they don't want in a woman.... Smart Educated Independent Well spoken Not afraid to speak her mind Doesn't take shit from old fat "christian" white males Etc
I think the Republicans love her. She's an easy target. She says a lot of stuff that Pelosi or other party "leaders" would never say, and then the Republicans or Hannity or whoever will attribute what AOC says to the entire democratic party.
