That would be a big announcement for a band of their caliber and history to make. They may not see the situation that way. The best way to ride out these periods of inactivity as a fan is to diversify your interests. Especially if you're taking the inactivity of a rock band personally.

I think the majority of us here would prefer arena shows over ballparks for the reasons stated (better sound, sight, no threat of weather, ect). But the band would probably rather do ballparks for reasons stated (more $$, less shows). I sort of agree that the "special-ness) is wearing off a bit. But if that's the only show in my area, then you can bet I'm going.
I think trying to charge $200 for arena shows is a bad idea. I'm not sure they are selling out arenas at those prices. I may be wrong. But if they, as someone suggested, play multiple nights and charge $200/ticket, you're looking at $800 in tickets for a 2 night stand. That's pretty rich.

If they are going to make it $200/ticket, it'd be nice if single (10c) tickets were an option. I can sometimes find someone to go to these shows but not always. At $200/ticket, it's a tougher sell for me to convince a friend who is a casual fan of the band.

They don't and pretty much for the same reason. They're artists and creativity doesn't always flow in a linear album/tour cycle way. If a band announces a hiatus it always seems heavy.

Yes. Sadly those ballpark shows (Seattle for me, specifically) was a once in a lifetime for me - and I could drive there!. I'm sure I could scrape together the funds to do it again but it really doesn't seem like a good idea when you have a badass mortgage, kids, etc. Gotta admit that the night off for the band was probably great for the band but killer for me. Downtown Seattle is not cheap at all!

But they’ve never communicated well. They only release info when they have something to report. It would be nice if they gave us some hints or an idea of when we could expect a new album. It’s frustrating but that’s how it’s always been since the rumor pit went away.

Regarding ticket prices, Pearl Jam could easily do the whole "VIP packages" with multiple levels of those and have tickets with the dynamic pricing...but they still want to keep tickets low. Only recently did tickets break the $100 value.
They toured USA in 2014, 2016 and 2018. My ticket for 2014 was below $100. It could have easily been over $100, especially with an over-inflated package.
But if they did, it would go against their "low prices for the fans" mindset and people would complain.

I'm torn on this. Sometimes it occurs to me that $30 in my late teen's was actually harder for me to spend than $200 as an adult. When you combine inflation and my rate of pay.... I'm not sure it's that different.
That being said. I've still noticed a trend with the new trend of mega expensive concert tickets. I've slowed down. I might pay over $200 to knock one off my bucket lists (the stones), but I'm less likely to plunk down that kind of money for a repeat. I remember the summer before last I skipped out on Metallica, U2, Tom Petty (its ok I'd seen him a few times already), GNR, because I'd seen them all already. Most of them multiple times. It's cutting down my repeat business.

The Who are selling poorly in NY also. Very expensive ticket. But they are not in their prime. PJ is holding onto the outer reaches of their prime (non geezer) years which makes their light schedule and false new album press releases even more frustrating.
PJ is worth the premium prices. I never had as difficult a time getting Who tickets as getting PJ tickets.
PJ intensified loyalty from their fans by fighting for reasonable ticket prices at the beginning. Although I'd pay alot to see them, I get why they are careful when it comes to pricing

Opposite of me. I took a good decade long break from seeing them (and other favorites) due to many factors (moving, work, getting married, having kids, etc) and now I want to make up for lost time! Plus, now my kids are old enough that I can take a short trip to see a band out of town, whereas I wouldn't even consider it prior to last year.
