It is not only the lack of touring or the absence of new music that is maddening, but the unwillingness to communicate anything to us.

Yes, for those who defend the band at every possible juncture, I understand they do not OWE us that. Except that in my opinion, they kind of do.

It would simply be a kind gesture to let the diehards know. A simple "taking 6 months, 1 year or 2 year break, see you soon" message would be great. Instead: crickets. Truthfully, at this point it really strikes me as quite rude.
That would be a big announcement for a band of their caliber and history to make. They may not see the situation that way. The best way to ride out these periods of inactivity as a fan is to diversify your interests. Especially if you're taking the inactivity of a rock band personally.

I may be taking  it personally but I'm not sure. My decision is forthcoming.

Yeah, I already kind of addressed your cynicism in my prior post. We can however, agree to disagree on our opinions.

I think the majority of us here would prefer arena shows over ballparks for the reasons stated (better sound, sight, no threat of weather, ect).  But the band would probably rather do ballparks for reasons stated (more $$, less shows).  I sort of agree that the "special-ness) is wearing off a bit.  But if that's the only show in my area, then you can bet I'm going.

I think trying to charge $200 for arena shows is a bad idea.  I'm not sure they are selling out arenas at those prices.  I may be wrong.  But if they, as someone suggested, play multiple nights and charge $200/ticket, you're looking at $800 in tickets for a 2 night stand. That's pretty rich.

We're in the minority.  They are going to sell out ball park shows because it's an "event".  Arena shows are just concerts.  Best hope is that they do a PJ tour (4-5 weeks, 20 or so shows).  Play 2-3 ball parks and mix in arenas in between.  If I had a choice between Fenway or the XL Center in Hartford, you can damn well bet I'm going to Hartford (who am I kidding, I'd go to both) But at least it gives everybody a choice.

If they are going to make it $200/ticket, it'd be nice if single (10c) tickets were an option. I can sometimes find someone to go to these shows but not always. At $200/ticket, it's a tougher sell for me to convince a friend who is a casual fan of the band.

I don’t follow enough other bands to know if they announce that they are not touring.  PJ is a band that does what it wants when it wants with maximum flexibility to cancel or change things at the last minute.  Making any sort of announcement boxes them in and they clearly do not like that.

$200 a ticket and you can count on my ass not being there.  Fuck that!  Entertainment should not limited to the rich.  Whoever even made that suggestion can kindly fuck right off!

They don't and pretty much for the same reason. They're artists and creativity doesn't always flow in a linear album/tour cycle way. If a band announces a hiatus it always seems heavy.

It's already limited to the rich with the ballpark shows, unless you're lucky enough to live in one of those cities, you're paying for tickets, travel, hotel, etc...

Agreed.  There is zero chance I pay that much for a ticket.

Jeez dont they deserve something comparable to the hotels, airfare and

Guaranteed decent seats for a caste system at a fraction of fair value has shielded fans from....? Dont wanna call it socialism but not sure what to say about $200 being too much for a premium event like PJ.

Yes. Sadly those ballpark shows (Seattle for me, specifically) was a once in a lifetime for me - and I could drive there!. I'm sure I could scrape together the funds to do it again but it really doesn't seem like a good idea when you have a badass mortgage, kids, etc. Gotta admit that the night off for the band was probably great for the band but killer for me. Downtown Seattle is not cheap at all!

But they’ve never communicated well.  They only release info when they have something to report.  It would be nice if they gave us some hints or an idea of when we could expect a new album.  It’s frustrating but that’s how it’s always been since the rumor pit went away.

Yet, when they say "upcoming release" people get all hyped up and it doesn't happen.

Sometimes it's better for Eddie to say what he said at Fenway than it is for the 10C newsletter to tease an upcoming release that is still yet to happen.
