Notre-Dame Cathedral Fire

I am watching CBS News...that question was brought up. As part of the renovation, they documented the entire building which will be very useful in reconstruction...Spiritual_Chaos said:Stupid thing to speculate on now. But any chance they could restore/rebuild it as an exact replica?
Guess the cost would be to huge these days to undertake such a thing maybe...Give Peas A Chance…0 -
Apparently all/most the artwork has been saved0

I saw a tweet saying that it will be rebuilt, no details. Many cathedrals/places of worship were destroyed in the bombings in WW2 and were rebuilt. The tweeter said that spire that just went down was from the 1800s. I'll see if I can find the tweet again, hope I got those details right.Spiritual_Chaos said:Stupid thing to speculate on now. That's nice. Instead of "now we'll fit a scryscraper here"Kat said:

An expert on CBS News says he doubts they were able to save much artwork or artifacts...Give Peas A Chance…0

Sad to see history go up in flames.
I don't know how you can truly rebuild something that historic if it is a total loss. It would just be a replica. Might as will rebuild it in Nashville next to the Parthenon.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0 -

Guess the cost would be to huge these days to undertake such a thing maybe...I guess it will depend of what they will be able to save. They used to say that a fire under the roof would be catastophic... they were right. http://www.notredamedeparis.fr/en/la-cathedrale/architecture/la-charpente/

They saved artworks at the beginning (they’re located on the ground floor) but the next hours will be critical and I hope it won’t collapse. I lived there and have no doubt it will be rebuilt but this will be a very long process, probably talking about decades.0

Maybe they can do one small adjustment:Kat said:

Guess the cost would be to huge these days to undertake such a thing maybe...Apparently, an art historian made detailed 3D laser maps of the entire building. So if they choose to rebuild, there are indeed maps of every detail.Nonetheless, it is a terrible loss. All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.0 -
General Gallet: "We can now consider that both Notre Dame towers are saved." "We now have to cool down different points, it'll take a few hours, but Notre-Dame's structure is saved."

It is a small comfort but pretty much anything wooden that remained from the Middle Ages is goneSpiritual_Chaos said:General Gallet: "We can now consider that both Notre Dame towers are saved."
