I still need to read about it.
It lays the groundwork for late term abortions.  Most of the pro-choice people I’ve heard from support allowing abortions up to the point of viability, so I’m curious to hear what they think about this.  It seems to have also limited legal measures that make it possible to charge someone with a crime if they assault a woman and kill her unborn baby...Progress??

    Why would we be exuberant?
This isn't Facebook, people here realize that late term abortions are heartbreaking stories of women and men who face devastating choices.  This is a strong move for removing government intrusion into a medical decision, but it isn't something to be giddy about.  I thought the tone of celebration on the floor was a little too exuberant, but I think that can be forgiven in people who have fought and worked so hard to do what's right, which is to leave medical decisions to doctors and patients.

“She also argued that removing abortion from the criminal code would mean that if a fetus died as the result of an assault on a woman there would be no prosecution. "Being assaulted and losing your baby is not a woman's choice," she said.”

Of course that was easily refuted by the fact that any assault of such significance can easily be punished to the same degree with a handful of other charges that would apply.  Judges have a wide enough latitude to sentence appropriately.

So if a doctor decides that there is no “life or death” need and refuses to perform an abortion, that’s cool, right?  That hasn’t played well with the “abortion on demand” crowd in the past...

Is that right?  I don't know anything about the "abortion on demand" crowd's past.
What have they done when doctors elected not to perform late term abortions?

Care to quote some legal statutes that back up that claim? They once could be charged with murder...or fetal homicide.

No, I'm not doing a bunch of research to back up what some legislators claimed in a state I don't live in.
I will take them at their word, because it seems like common sense to me, and you will decide for yourself one way or another.

I think the fact that it's even up for debate is idiotic. I'm not going to get giddy about something that is just common sense.

ummm mkay? Not sure why you’d assume everyone is cool with that. But really it’s between them. It seemed like a bad attempt at a joke to me. But again not sure why you think people are cool with it or have any opinion on it.

Well, when people feel that the way a high school kid “looks at” another person should make national news, the bar is set pretty low for them and there is probably little that is not crazy triggering.

Well everyone is so willing to jump down anyone's throat for anything around here lately, but nobody said a word about that, so I assumed everyone was cool with it.
