I think instead of making an immediate off the hip speech right after the tragic event happened would have been lost on so many. When you look at all the times there has been an attack or death that is high profile, you need only look at how quick and decisive the Tweets or comments have come to know where Trump really stands on the issue. Like any of us, we are quick to condemn or speak out against issues or acts that do not align with our value systems or how we feel, unless of course there is a lot of gray area. Was there a gray area that needed further dissection related to how the people who were injured, and one killed, by the actions that took place on Saturday? No. It should be easy to clearly articulate what was wrong and why, but when you don't feel that way, or more likely in this case, it hurts your relationship with certain individuals, you are a bit more vague, as not to alienate or offend those you consider to be your group. I do not believe Trump is a supporter of these KKK, Neo Nazi, etc. assholes, but by skirting around a definitive stance against them (unless they kill someone) he can maintain his appeal. Honestly, I doubt Trump likes anyone besides himself and those who can make him a quick buck, but he sure as hell will do what is necessary to convince them he is their guy while also calling them much worse names than deplorable behind their back.
A simple comparison would be if you spouse asks you how they look. If you pause or are too vague in your response, it can be a clear indication that you aren't being completely honest in your assessment. And then comes the follow-up more direct response when they aren't convinced, but you know what, it doesn't matter because it's too late. Maybe deep down you really believe it, but it wasn't what you expressed when it mattered most, so now be prepared to reiterate that point over and over again because it wasn't genuine. Do you think Trump has what it takes to reiterate his disapproval of these groups outside of a murder in broad daylight? So far, he hasn't shown it, but I guess he's taken step 1. If he means it, his responses and follow-up should naturally show that it isn't just window dressing.It's a hopeless situation...0 -
