Are the live albums the place to start with his music instead of the studio stuff?

Seeing him live is the place to start. I understand though if you want to get a feel for his music before going. I've seen him about a dozen times now and he's unbelievably good every time out. Most recently at the pop up show he did Sunday night in the wake of his opening gigs for Eric Clapton's LA shows getting postponed.
Haven't given the new live album a thorough listen yet but I do like the first live one a lot.

I'm done buying his stuff until he plays a show in WI. He's played here once (by himself), and that was a long time ago.

I'm going to buy the new live album.
I hope the songs from the last album sound better than the studio.
I really disliked his latest studio album.
It was far to hip hoppie for my tastes.
I did think he newest song "Take Me Down" from a movie soundtrack was much better than anything on that Story of Sunny Boy Slim album.

Agree. Church and maybe one more track I liked. Would love to see him just stick to the blues.

Regardless he is awesome live always. Going to see him at the Stone Pony (outside) in August.

this is one guy i don't feel the need to know every song in his catalog. going to see him play live is where the good stuff is at
    live music is better

I agree 100%. Here's a question for you super fans. Trio or Quartet? I've seen GCJr 7 times now and at least 3 of those were in the trio format without the second guitarist. I actually enjoyed the trio shows more than the quartet shows. His guitar playing was just more aggressive and in your face. The set he played at Osheaga in 2015 was insane.

If I were to see him, I'd rather see him as a trio. The second guitarist is good, but I feel that GCJr doesn't play as much when he's around.

Anyone else think the new live album sounds like a bad recording???? Don't know. Something sounds weird on lots of tracks. Playing on cd through speakers

Wow, that song and video have quite a pointed message to say the least.
Definitely gets me excited about the album.
I'm sad he's not announced a show in my city yet. :(  I've missed him in the past because he chose a garbage venue that I've boycotted.

In one of Gary’s most recent tweets addressing the issues he mentions in his new single, he hash tagged it as “Healing With Universal Language” and HWUL.

Love the new song. Channeled anger with poignant lyrics and a vicious guitar. Nicely done.
