You guys keep making this a Trump thing. He’s a total dipshit but racism has been around since the beginning of humanity and will be around til the end of humanity.

Its not about color and it’s not about holding the black man down. It’s about an entertainer I feel may be exploiting a general mood. I’m not totally condemning him and I’m not swearing off his music. I’m not dismissing the possibility that he had a white person look at him in disbelief when showing the fruits of his success. I’m simply saying it’s a little odd that he chose this time to come out with the type of artistic statement when he hasn’t really broached the subject in the past.

I’ll admit it’s cynical but assure you it has nothing to do with race. I’d have the same reaction to any musician.

Well I didn't really make it a Trump thing - the only reason I went there is because you pointed out some problem that I don't see with the timing of the album release (and I even mentioned such "timing" would apply to all of American history and the future). What timing are you referring to if it doesn't have something to do with Trump or Trump-related issues? Plus, maybe it is actually kind of Trump related. If you're wondering why he hasn't had an album like this in the past, well, maybe he wasn't driven to until now, a time when more racists are feeling emboldened because of Trump and and his fans? I just don't see any reason to be suspicious of the timing or the fact that he finally decided to really confront this subject. Maybe HE now feels more emboldened than he did before too, because of the opposition to the newly emboldened racists? Whatever it is... the LAST thing I'm tempted to do is doubt his sincerity about it, so it's just odd to see anyone do so. As far as I know, GCJ has never given any of us a reason to doubt him like that.

Recent interview with Gary on Marc Maron's WTF podcast. Lots of great blues talk. Cool interview.
I finished listening to this last night. Good, insightful interview, particularly w/ Marc being able to approach it as a fellow guitar player. Interesting to hear how at a young age Gary was welcomed into blues circles, and how he may never have achieved liftoff w/o an assist from Clapton :sunglasses:

So - his Indy show says 7:30PM.  Is there an opener on this tour?  Anyone seen him before to understand 1) When he will take the stage 2) How long his set is?

Debating the drive on a Monday....stupid work.
So if y'all are done arguing about trump, timing, racism, etc...

Anyone know the answer to my question?  Thanks for any help!

Tameca Jones is opening in Pittsburgh, not sure about Indy. The last 2 times I saw him he’s had an opener so I assume Indy will have one too. I’d say it’s a safe bet he’ll be on between 9 and 9:30 and play til 11 if that’s your venues curfew.

Really like the album so far. Gutted I’m arriving in New Orleans the day he plays the New Orleans Jazz festival but won’t make the show in time. Not happy!
No ireland date this summer either.
Why couldn’t he be playing the Sat or Sun? :(

You know that part of the PJ20 movie where Chris Cornell talks about a certain Pearl Jam guitarist being "infected"
or has something inside him that's gonna come out one of these days??
I think I saw another victim of this infection last night and it was AMAZING!!
Gary Clark Jr's show will probably end up in my top 2 or 3 shows of the year...
    it was THAT good.
    Loved all the new material...
we got 10 out of 15 songs from This Land,
and every single one was outstanding!!
My favorite performances of the night were the opening instrumental intro portion of Blak And Blu
into  Bright Lights & When My Train Pulls In...
that was when Gary's "infection" showed up the most!!
So glad I was able to see him in a small theatre setting because I'm thinking he'll be playing arenas real soon!!

He’s about to rightfully blow up.  I think this tour is your last chance to see him at smaller places.  This is about the best album to come out from anyone in the last 5 years.

Having seen him a dozen plus times in smaller venues, I was actually looking forward to seeing how his show would translate on bigger stages since his two SoCal shows are at the Santa Barbara and Hollywood Bowls. Bummer that both dates conflict with the weekend of Ohana.
Still need to give the full album a listen. Like the 10 or so songs I've already seen him play live since he's been road testing some of these for a while. Low Down Rolling Stone, Pearl Cadillac, and What About Us are some of my early favorites.
He translates just fine to big stage. He’s already played the Garden a few times opening for EC.

Saw him Friday night at The Beacon.  What a show.  Selfishly, I hope he continues to play these smaller places, but he should be headlining arenas, at least in bigger cities.

I’m sure everyone who cares has seen the set list by now, but he basically plays 2/3 of the new album with a couple from each of his others.  And it rips.   Not many artists could get away with most of their show being new material but this new album is so good, it works.

Was great seeing Bright Lights near West 54th (Broadway at 74th/75th is close enough.  I’m counting it 😆).

If you have a conflict when he comes to town, clear it.  This is a special one.

I paid $135 for Platinum aisle seats in the 2nd row in Indy...
getting to see Gary Clark Jr. up close in a small venue was definitely worth it to me as well!!
