Yes, it's not like improvements can't be made in the future, but it will almost certainly be a fight fought by dying, suffering people. Yet more people in pain will be forced to fight for this right in the courts and through the media instead of being able to live their last days in peace until they are ready to let go of their suffering. Meanwhile, all the other people living in horrible pain will be forced to go on living horrible lives. It's disgusting. Yes, this is better than nothing, but it's infuriating to see the government fuck such important legislation up so much for what is, as far as I can tell, no good reason at all.lukin2006 said:Don't know if it's factual ... But I have read the bill on assisted dying is still unconstitutional, so maybe another Supreme Court challenge on the way? And the person who launched the original challenge, under this legislation, would still be required to leave the country to gain assisted dying ... Government is fucking clueless.

Pretty hard to argue with this http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/bill-c-14-senate-concedes-to-governments-will-sending-assisted-dying-law-to-royal-assent?google_editors_picks=true
But many of the Senators who voted for the Harder motion appear to have done so reluctantly, saying they didn’t agree with the House of Commons but that the will of elected officials should prevail — a sentiment that would’ve left some in the Liberal government sighing with relief.
Independent Senator André Pratte said “I am convinced the government is making a serious and cruel mistake,” but conceded that the government would “answer to the people for that error.”

Then these senators have answered the age old question about the senate ... What good is it, no good if they'll cave this easily on such an important piece of legislation. Most of these senators are the same senators have been holding up single sports game betting legislation that would help casinos in this country which are often located in hard hit economic areas and that legislation has often passed the elected house ... So again Harpers choices prove the senate is inline with what Canada wants which is elected officials getting the rubber stamp for the will of the people.

In a nutshell because Harper hand picked some senators he chose ones that would ultimately benefit Canada when put to task.

^^^pretty sure Harpo used the senate as place for patronage appointees, just like previous liberal and conservative prime ministers before him ... If he really cared about Canadians then he would have engaged the provinces, 3 territories, Quebec and the First Nations people's in senate reform, but he didn't .... He choose to nothing ... The senate is nothing but a waste of tax $$$ the way it's currently set up, but as far as I'm concerned the current political system is a waste of tax $$$ as well the way it is set up. And electoral reform will leave us scratching our heads.I have certain rules I live by ... My First Rule ... I don't believe anything the government tells me ... George Carlin

Government will have to decide whether to invest into submarines or cut ships adrift: Navy commander

That's ridiculous. They didn't do anything, haven't you been paying any attention at all?? They almost did something right and then completely dropped the ball and failed Canadians as usual. On an issue that Harper fully opposed in the first place.PJfanwillneverleave1 said:^^^

So what law did you want passed exactly?
What is it that pisses you off so much with the current bill that just became law?0 -

The Supreme Court directed that medical assistance in dying should be available to clearly consenting, competent adults with “grievous and irremediable” medical conditions that are causing enduring suffering that they find intolerable.

^^^so essentially the liberals did the bare minimum ... How Harper like! So essentially they just wait till someone launches a SC challenge ( at their expense)...then maybe the law will be fixed right...it's only time and money...I have certain rules I live by ...
