North Carolina passes bill blocking LGBT protections

Boycotts only work when people join in, it is a group movement. 1 concert is a ripple in the pond, but combined with the other ripples, big waves will be made.Jason P said:
Boycotts for single events for this low of magnitude do not work. Should a pro team to boycott, yeah that may work. Bruce has the luxury that he is a multi millionaire. The blue collar person working OT (1,2,3,4!) that just got screwed has no such luxury.rgambs said:
Oh, so you think that boycotts don't work? Ok, then, do nothing and let misfortune wash over you like the bitter brew you seem to prefer.Jason P said:
Do u think anyone that supports the bill gives a shit if Bruce cancels? That is delusional thinking.rgambs said:Bands do charity and awareness concerts all the time and NOBODY GIVES A SHIT!
If you think playing and going on a little rant has the same effect as cancelling you are delusional!
I don't support this bill. But I don't support illogical rational either. Again, those being punished are people that are against the bill of restrooms.Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -
Yes. I happen to have music-loving fans who moved to NC last year, and they are Trump supporters, they put hateful posts on FB supporting their stance, they actually support the bill! (I know, they are not tolerant, I don't get it) and they are pissed that the Boss canceled.Jason P said:

Springsteen appeals to a broad fan base. He's the perfect performer to take this stance. Well done, Bruce!"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

It's sad to see hateful comments from hypocrites on Facebook who are okay with the Duggars and Drumpf saying he wants to screw his daughter.
But a tranny going to the loo is huge threat of pedophelia because they don't have an R next to their name on the ballot. ConservatISIS logic, ladies and gents.Post edited by InHiding80 on0 -
What a bummer for the good folks in NC. I mean that- I have a friend who teaches there, another friend in the medical profession there (she has a gay son!) and a nephew and his family who live there and I'm sure there are many other fine folks there as well. And it's a beautiful state. The uptight, sexually repressed, fanatically religious, dark-age minded types with broom handles up their butts have put a huge mar on that state. I won't be visiting there any time soon."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

I'm not sure not playing a show "takes balls".
I never thought taking your ball and going home was the way to win an argument. I do understand what he is trying to do and appreciate the sentiment behind it, I believe he is correct, I just think he choose the wrong action.hippiemom = goodness0 -
Calling someone selfish is really a lazy argument.rgambs said:
Selfish much?Jason P said:
I assume you don't have travel plans to the show and thus don't care. Yet the fans that have spent money, taken PTO, made travel arrangements 6 months in advance and don't like the bill are the ones being punished.dignin said:
This draws huge attention to the cause. Acoustic set wouldn't have done shit, this is action...walking the talk.Jason P said:
It's an extremely dumb message with the options Bruce has at his disposal. How about doing a free 60 minute acoustic set at a rally to raise awareness?dignin said:
It's a huge message and I bet the people in power might be starting to get it. Actions have consequences.Jason P said:Should PJ cancel too? Who has tix?
Who would this be punishing? You think PJ or Bruce canceling a concert means jack squat to a Billy Ray fan?
Good for Bruce, this takes big balls.
This will cause minimal economic impact to the local economy but will cause major economic impact to his fans who are the one that most likely agree with Bruce's views.
Dumb.
This isn't dumb, it's admirable.
I'm making substantial travel and financial arrangements to see PJ this spring (not NC) and I would be pissed if PJ made such an ill thought out decision.

Playing the concert would have been the easier and more profitable thing to do. I don't see how this relates any way to taking his ball and going home, quite the opposite. The Boss picked the far harder course of action. That's why he is "The Boss".cincybearcat said:I'm not sure not playing a show "takes balls".

Playing the concert and placing all profits towards an organization that can assist with the cause would have been a pretty big statement... and his fans, many of whom are like him in their belief system, wouldn't have borne the weight of the effort.dignin said:

The people that live here that are already fighting it. And not bringing new business.....but not shutting down businesses and firing the employees to leave townFree said:This isn't about a concert it's about the toilet that NC and MS are choosing to live in. If the artists don't stand up for what's right, (and other states of course), who WILL??

What matters the most here is the issue. Anything anyone does to support LGBT is great but only if it's about the issue and supporting those who are singled out/discriminated against by hateful zealots. I'm guessing Bruce sees it that way too."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

I read some article about this on the Facebook page of 100.3 FM The Sound (local L.A. rock station) and didn't know until the article that even in the 70s there were hotels that wouldn't let the E Street Band in because of Clarence Clemons' race. Don't mess with the big man or you'll be messing with the boss.
Of course, that doesn't stop the Drumpfhadists from making troll comments acting like they're so surprised that Bruce isn't a hatriot pendejo like their messiah, Nugent.0 -
It's too bad Nugent went from this:InHiding80 said:I read some article about this on the Facebook page of 100.3 FM The Sound (local L.A. rock station) and didn't know until the article that even in the 70s there were hotels that wouldn't let the E Street Band in because of Clarence Clemons' race. I don't even think Nugent is worth wasting our breath on, he hasn't done any worthwhile music in how many years? And now he's more famous as a right wing fanatic, and I believe he's plays more state fairs than anywhere else...hehehe...brianlux said:

That's too bad- some of his early stuff was not bad. Now he just likes to sneer and piss people off. And I have not idea what his take is on LGBT issues. I'm not against an artist being politically involved either way but it's way better if the music comes first. Even Neil Young has said that.lukin2006 said:

I dig that High Enough song by Damn Yankees for childhood nostalgia reasons. MTV played that a lot when I was in 4th grade.0

I do not know if i am supporting it right, but I support it by minding my own business, especially with issues that will never have an effect on me...now if only we could somehow get the government to do the same...to dream.brianlux said:What matters the most here is the issue.
