Do your parents believe in God? If they do, then how do you explain your choice.PJfanwillneverleave1 said:

Most good parents aren't looking to raise mini-me's.
But children for the most part become a product of the environment raised.0 -
Honestly I don't know.
I don't want to find out their answer. (They are both still alive)0 -
Years ago I worked for a family and they had 3 kids, like 8 and under, and I said something about Moses and they said, "Who?" And I thought that was sad. And I knew one day I wanted my kids to be raised with something. With knowledge, even if it's the bible as history. My kids went to (mostly) small private schools that weren't religious, but had an emphasis on values. Honesty, truth, etc.
I would HATE for my children to grow up to be mini-me's.0 -
and no, the check is in the mail aint good enough. Sucks is that WE the taxpayers have to pony up. BUT its a fuck you I am willing to pay my share of.

I would rather my child recognize Pan, Echo, Beowulf and Grendal, Sir Gawain, Aragorn and Frodo, Antonio and Shylock etc than just Moses and Noah like most kids.Enkidu said:Years ago I worked for a family and they had 3 kids, like 8 and under, and I said something about Moses and they said, "Who?" Let me clarify: I did not mean shaming in the context of attacking her appearance. I was only referring to her views and the ridiculousness of that speech.mickeyrat said:
Just a correction. She is a local official. County level. Under the law she does have standing. Both within State and Fedral statute.HughFreakingDillon said:
disagree. with any human rights issue, someone, especially a federal employee, refusing someone those rights, needs to be outed and shamed. she feels vindicated right now with that disgusting speech and crying and all that televangelist garbage she was doing, but she will, as brian mentioned, eventually be forgotten.mickeyrat said:As long as those folks get their licenses and she doesnt have to have a part in it, I dont really care what she believes .
Much more was made of this than need be.
like all the assholes back in the day trying to prevent africans from using the same waterfountains and washrooms and sit at the front of the bus. all forgotten. all shamed. all a complete disgrace.
but not before late night tv rips her to shreds. things like this make me really miss Letterman and especially Stewart.
The Ky legislature seemingly failed in this instance to amend the law requiring clerk name on a document such as that one. SHE did push this though when the compromise was first offered last week and she refused. I am certain her Attorneys suggested she go for a few days. Pushing a larger agenda.
While I agree the attitude or belief isnt right , this country affords any belief you wish. So be it.
This really should have been handled in State court to begin with.
I intend on searching the timeline of events and who did what when. This law firm "Liberty Counsel" is headed by a former professor or dean of the Liberty University Law School. Mark my words there will be more like this to come. Seeking to re-litigate marriagr equality(wont work) to see just how far they can go in pushing for an expansion of the exempted.
Agree with the calling out. Not so much with the shaming. Serves no purpose. Not a good one anyway.

Local, federal, to me it makes no difference. She is there to serve the people by the law set forth in the country. She refusd her duty. She should have been fired, not jailed.mickeyrat said:

As I understand it removal would require an act of the legislature or recall election. Ky legislature doesnt meet in session again til Jan.HughFreakingDillon said:

My wife and I had this discussion pre-marriage. I said that she could raise them as catholic, but I would not be setting foot in a church unless it was for some type of ceremony special to them, and that if they ask me why I dont go, it is understood I will tell them (which I have). But the second they say (at a reasonable age) "I dont belive in this", the indoctrination stops and we allow them to explore any spiritual path they wish.Last-12-Exit said:
I allow my wife to inject religion into my kids lives. But my oldest, who is 14, I've started to have real discussions with her about religion. I haven't yet come out and told her I don't believe in god. But she is asking questions. The same questions I asked at 17 and 18. The same questions that could not be answered that led me to believe religion is ALL man made.callen said:
No he knows you are right just doesn't have the balls to release his security blanket. During turkey day I thank Mother Earth for putting us on top of food chain after my sisters rambling prayer. I had this same discussion with my brother, his wife, and their teenage son. my brother cried foul that just because of his beliefs, he gets demonized. he actually is saying that christianity is constantly on the defensive, always being attacked, and if he defends himself, he is called names and given labels.Last-12-Exit said:These fuckin christians gets so pissed off when they are called a bigot. My stupid fucking sister in law called my wife crying the other day after I responded one of her ignorant pro davis memes with "davis and her followers are bigots." She lives in KY near this county. She replied with "do you think I'm a bigot scott?" She actually thought that just because I'm her brother in law I wouldn't say, "do you think gay couples do not deserve the same rights you are afforded? If so, yes, you're a bigot."
I don't care what your god says. Nobody knows what Jesus said. If you think gays don't deserve the same rights you get, then you are a bigot.
if the shoe fits.......
I told them all to their face, in their home, that I consider anti-homosexual sentiment to be that of a bigoted mind. luckily, he is mature enough of an individual to not let it be the end of our relationship. I'm sure he prays for my hell-bound soul often.
So, I agree that too many people force religion down the throats of children and they don't allow any room for any other view points. If my daughter ultimately chooses to believe in god and be religious, I'm ok with that. I know I have given her a different theory to choose from.
My wife's family had a reunion this past summer. All VERY religious. Mass on Saturday afternoon. I did not go. My wife's sister even said her husband goes "because he knows its expected". I said "well I have my own brain, and Im sure your elders can respect that". Then she told me I, and everyone else in the world, is christian. I eas baffled by this assertion. Her idea was that if I live my life as a good person, or christ like, i am a christian. I said "then i guess you are a buddist". She didnt get it.

I think its important to note that it is not ok to shame a person based on their appearance, in any situation whatsoever. I find this woman's viewpoints to be repulsive and disgusting, but imagine knowing this woman. Imagine being her kid, and hearing this gross stuff said about your mom's looks on tv and the net.
Personal insults weaken your position, not strengthen it.
Full disclosure: yes, i have done it as well in the past. I am no saint. Just having a (rare) moment of clarity.By The Time They Figure Out What Went Wrong, We'll Be Sitting On A Beach, Earning Twenty Percent.0 -

Both of my parents have no belief in God but when I was growing up I had enough friends that had religion in there lives that it made me curious. They allowed me to explore the theology, go to church and make up my own mind. I have been to many a church, hall or whatever they want to call it and on my own came to the conclusion I have that God(or whatever they choose to call it) is not something I believe in.hedonist said:

Allow your child the freedom to explore once they have the skill set and maturity to process what is being delivered to them with a critical eye.
Exposing them to time tested brainwashing tactics when they are most impressionable- thinking they can choose later in life if they wish to keep believing- is poor by design unless the agenda is to construct.

Don't apologize for the 'hair thing'. She's an idiot. Pure and simple. She can face all the attention she has earned for herself.
I feel that many of the people who have expressed that it is poor to speak to how she presents herself have, at various times, spoken to other people's beliefs or values in just as degrading fashion which, ultimately, is the same thing."My brain's a good brain!"0 -
I would like my kids to know all of those things (except maybe Beowulf, although I guess they should but I hated Beowulf - liked Gilgamesh better - um, that's why I'm Enkidu). But I agree. Kids should know as much as possible, not just Moses and Noah.rgambs said:

I feel sort of bad for making fun of Kim Davis's looks. And I agree it cheapens your argument when you talk about looks (Trump, Kim Davis, etc.). Trump making fun of Carly Fiorina's looks today - ugh.
But that photo of Kim Davis with Dick Cheney's face made me laugh out loud.0
