HAHHAHHAHHAHHAHA I just love a good laugh ! thank you.
Godfather.
Care to elaborate on what you find humourous?
a hand full of people on here have no more than insults to add to this topic and they talk about equal rights but only see and agree with the rights of the party they feel has been wronged, anger is a funny thing, I believe if you read all the posts on this thread you will see a mirror image of just about every topic brought forth to the train from muslim terrorist to gays and Christians and when they try to take thier point to an extreem they bash the Christain faith or talk about the bigots who don't agree with them, this hand full of people are a prime example of what they feel is wrong with the world to start with and that's why total world peace is imposible in the big picture, I realize this is just a forum with no real solution to any propblems (and it's probably a good thing) but sometimes I just have to laugh at the hand full.
Godfather.
You don't seem to understand things, no matter how many times they are explained. It is not incumbent on anyone to except anyone elses bigotry, and respect is earned not given. Racists, bigots, thieves, predators...they all deserve our disdain and it is not at all the same thing to hate a hater as it is to hate someone who hasn't given cause.
Exactly, thank you. But I'm sensing that GF is literally incapable of grasping this concept, since he just keeps saying the same shit, and keeps getting the same reply.

and I can't comment on the jail thing. I don't know enough about those laws to understand why she was in contempt of court instead of a just a deadbeat not doing her job, requiring dismissal.
As an elected official she could not be dismissed. She could only be removed by being voted outnof office or removed by impeachment (I think).
She was jailed because she continued to defy a judge's order to sign off on all marriages. The therefore she was in contempt of court which is a jailable offense.
She should be impeached.

County clerks in KY are elected officials. And as someone mentioned earlier, they can only be dismissed by state leg. or governor. Both the AG, Conway, and the Governor, Beshear, have elected to do nothing. Conway is running for Governor and Beshears son is running for AG. State leg. is primarily conservative so most are on her side, or at the very least, not willing to piss off the conservative constituency in this state. Most people outside Louisville, the states largest city, are really conservative even if they say the are Dems.
well they should get a spine and do what's just: she defied the law she swore to obey and uphold (I assume she had to swear on something if she is an elected official). if that's not a dismissable offense, not sure what is.

Elected official. Cant be fired in the normal sense.
Ordered by the court to issue. She still refused. Was found in contempt of court. Judge felt a fine was insufficient. Jailed until she would comply with original order .my guess is all couples who were getting a license had done so.
Since the office was issuing licenses she was released and ordered to mot interfere.

asked again - how would you feel if someone denied you the right to purchase a gun because of their religious beliefs?
the bakery you speak of has a right to refuse service to anyone, the county clerk's office can not play that card
Also, not legally, but just philosophically, it's not comparable. The request for the cake is synonymous with sending a hate message to the black bakers (I have no idea why them being in their 60s is a fact you threw in there GF), as well as asking them to participate in that hate message. It's like asking a Jewish tailor to sew a swastika and an SS symbol into a crest on a jacket. Two gay people going in and asking for a marriage license isn't a request for a message of hate or a message of hate aimed at the license issuer.

What's really breathtaking and sad is that that headline is completely reasonable, everyone understands what it implies, and Fox is the biggest, most viewed news network in America.

I've heard that but had to look it up to believe it. It's true! FOX is the biggest news network in America. Now that is sad but not really what I would call breathtaking. More like stomcah churning. How can it be??

no print reports yet, but I heard on the morning news Davis is filing an appeal to prevent her office from being able to issue licenses.
this is going to get crazy !
if you guys would be kind enough to listen just for a second... the only reason I am not 100% behind this gal is simply this " who am I to judge your sin's ? " we all sin and as far as I know a sin is a sin is a sin, how we all feel about each sin maybe different but in the end it's still a sin that is not for me to judge.
from the local paper during the election for clerk last year. She won a 4 year term. note the quotes attribued to her about the office and what she intened to do.
This year’s election to replace retiring Rowan County Clerk Jean Bailey is more spirited than local voters have seen in recent years when Bailey ran unopposed in five of her nine terms in office.
The Oct. 17 print edition of The Morehead News stated erroneously that the office had not seen a contested election in 38 years. Actually, Bailey had an opponent in 2010 but did not face opposition in her four previous terms. She will leave office Dec. 31 after 37 years of service and never having lost an election.
Chief Deputy Court Clerk Kim Davis, a Democrat, and John Cox, a Republican, are vying for a four-year term in the Nov. 4 general election.
Davis feels she brings the experience needed to operate the multi-million dollar office and Cox believes change is needed.
“I've been employed in the county clerk's office for 26 years and it’s what I love to do,” said Davis. “There is so much that goes into the clerk’s office and someone who has never worked in this office could easily be overwhelmed if they had no experience.”
Davis added that she has learned from Jean Bailey, who had served in the position since 1978.
“Jean Bailey is one of the most respected clerks in the state and I've been blessed to watch and learn from her. She has taught me what it takes,” said Davis. “If I'm elected it will be a seamless transition with no break in services to our citizens. Licenses, taxes, election-related activities and all of our other services cannot stop or slow down.”
Cox said that people talked to him about wanting to see changes made in the clerk’s office and that is why he decided to run for the office.
“There have been many years of the same thing and it is time for a change. I want to make the office more convenient for people by extending hours and being open on Saturdays,” said Cox. “I have a college degree, 14 years of personal business experience and 17 years of banking experience and I want to bring better management techniques to the office. We can work within the budget and offer more to the people in how we manage things.”
He added that a different perspective can offer a lot to the office.
“It is time for a strong and fresh start. I care about providing the needs of our citizens and my leadership abilities will be dedicated to that full time,” said Cox. “I want to use my experience to operate the clerk’s office in a modern, efficient way that will take us into the future.”
Both candidates agree that customer service is one of the most important aspects of the position.
“I'm a people person and a problem solver and I can use the skills acquired in my 41 years of customer service to provide the best service to the citizens as possible,” said Cox. I plan to be highly dedicated and know that this is more than a full-time job. I am running to help bring about the change that people want because they deserve that.”
“The public is my boss. As a deputy clerk, I have had people call me for needs on holidays or at other times when the office is closed,” said Davis. “Being a public servant is ingrained in me and I want continue providing the high level of customer service we do while treating people with respect, kindness, and helping them with whatever situation they have.”
Each candidate reminded citizens to exercise their right to vote and to cast their ballots based on what is important.
“I just want people to know that I want to provide them with the best experience possible,” said Cox. “The changes can be done and I want to dedicate myself to this leadership role and serve the people of Rowan County.”
“I am not a politician and I do not make political promises that I may not be able to achieve and I do not think that I know every situation that may happen but I do know how to maintain this office,” said Davis. “I will continue to be on the front line, ever present, and continue to serve with compassion and dedication.”
Davis and Cox added that they appreciate the support they have received so far in their campaigns.
