Castro, Rizzo, Bryant, arrietta, Hendrick. That's core talent.

Rent got a raw deal. He did nothing wrong except agreeing to coach a bad team.
As Speedy said...another big name manager for a crappy team....

I don't like that they resigned Hammel. But if it vets Lester th the rotation, I'm all for it. I would have preferred Shark.

Idk man. It's going to be hard to fuck this up. They have talent. They still may go out and get shields too. They need a closer and a big bat in the outfield.

Now I'm really being greedy, but they need to make a big push for scherzer. They'd be unbeatable!

I am really excited to watch this young team play. Here's hoping Theo brings Bryant up right away. Kid really doesn't have anything left to prove.

I agree, Bryant is ready. I was surprised that he wasn't a September call up. But that will be a tough infield if Castro can clean up his defense. I'm not thrilled with the Montero signing. He's a below average hitter and an average catcher.

The cubs are definitely all in. The next two seasons with be crucial. I still think we need a steady closer and a better bat in the outfield. But we are close.
  • I'll give it 2 years...
Before the Lester signing goes down as one of the worst in free agent history.

I hope he wins 25 next year.
But history tells us NOT to give free agent pitchers that kind of money.

The rotation looks really good on paper. I think the only weak spot is Hammel.

    1-Lester
    2-Arrieta
    3-Hammel
    4-Travis Wood
    5-Kyle Hendricks

Imagine throwing James shields in there at #2. Or Mad Max. I'm real excited for this season.

That's a pretty good starting 5. I think they should trade Baez. Maybe get a closer for him...

Congrats on Lester. Great pitcher to have on your team. Big signing that Cubs fans should rightfully feel good about.

I think that rotation is average. Lester(Good) is a given. Lets see if Arrieta really has figured it out. Hammel? Which one will show up? The first half Cub pitcher or the 2nd half A's pitcher. I haven't seen enough of Wood but i've seen enough of Kendricks and i think i would try and find someone else for that spot. Still a lot of off-season for Theo to make an upgrade.

I would love for us to get one more solid starter. I don't like the idea of counting on both Hammel and Wood having good seasons in 2015. Hammel's performance went way downhill after being traded to the A's and Wood did not look as strong last year.

Very excited about the Lester signing. It will be a bad contract in 4 years but I like that the Cubs are going for it in 2015 (but 2016 is probably more realistic).

As I said, I think hammel is the weak spot. Travis wood, with decent run support is good for 12-15 wins. He reminds me of jamie Moyer only better. And I like Hendricks. He pitched well last year. Arrieta is good. I have no problem with him at 2. Dude can pitch. Of course, I'd love to see him at #3 with shields ahead of him!

If I never have to hear the words Samardzija or Shark ever again, it would not upset me in the least. It boggles my mind how many people - fans, media, & analysts alike - think this guy is an ace. At his absolute best, he's only ever been good for a half season. Granted he got the short end a few times this past season with little run support, but 36-48 career and flirting with an ERA near 4.00 is not someone I want to build a rotation around.

I read somewhere that Bryant wasn't brought up in September for contract reasons. Something to do with he'd be a free agent or eligible for arbitration a year sooner if we would've brought him up this past season. Something like that anyway.

So we have a possible rotation of Lester, Arrieta, Hendricks, Wood, & Hammel... Can we PLEASE just cut our financial losses and show Edwin Jackson the damn door? For $12 million a year less, I'll fucking go out there every 5 days and get rocked within the first 3 innings.

Lol. I think Smardjiza (I only say shark cuz it's easier to spell) has matured a lot and is still getting better. He's not a number one on a team with true aces. But he was last year for the cubs. I think he'd be a solid 2 behind Lester. But, we won't know that until hopefully 2016.

Anthony Rizzo is guaranteeing a division title this year. I love ya Riz, but let's not get carried away. Lol. I am definitely expecting an NL central title in 2016.
