Is there even the slightest chance that the inevitable protest can be held in a peaceful manner? I'm not feeling too optimistic, but it would be awesome if people could demonstrate their message without tipping cars, throwing things, and lighting things on fire.

i remember when the jennings police force was dissolved. my best friend grew up in jennings. him and his brother were the only 2 white kids in their neighborhood.

i think wilson has been involved with 2 corrupt police organizations. this is either coincidence, or a pattern. either way, i think it is the culture inside the police force that influences these young officers to act a certain way.

Agree, and im reading the stl area cops are kkk members or are affiliated with kkk. some pretty good evidence that Wilson GF is a member.
Another thing that surprised me, domestic abuse perpetrated by cops, GF and wives of cops are twice as likely to be victims of DA. I think it's like 1 in 3. Imaging being the victim and having to call the cops to report that.

Now,now there is plenty of room in this conversation for all points of view.I don't think anyone on here condones the actions of either brown or Wilson.But regardless lawlessness from protesters or law enforcement can not be tolerated.Is this case really about race.Im not so sure it is.

From the first story: In order for a police department to weather a storm like that, it has to have social capital. And this police department didn’t have social capital in that community.

I think, to some degree, this statement helps explain why 10C community members (among many others of course) are- to varying degrees- 'somewhat' divided on this issue.

I speak from a region where our police have served us very well for many years and have earned much respect from the community. This, I guess, is why I often have been an outspoken advocate in various threads for police people doing police work. I have respect for police and the critical work they do.

If I spoke from a region where police work has consistently been shoddy and felt my community has not been served professionally with a growing list of similar incidents as blemishes on the police force... it's likely I would be more inclined to blame Wilson entirely for the incident and have very little empathy for a man who performed poorly in what can be called an extremely tense and dangerous policing situation.

The story leading up to the fatal shots fired is likely somewhere in the middle. With such varied accounts, I don't know for certain what happened prior to Wilson fatally firing his last shots. I believe there was a struggle of some sort and that Wilson- gaining the upper hand- failed to restrain himself and shot Brown dead. As such, I think that Brown kind of made his own bed 'poking the bear' or 'tempting fate' if you will. I also think that Wilson should be held accountable to some degree for his display of excessive force that killed a man... and I'm not exactly sure to what degree?

I now am left with the feeling that things might go very badly. I'm curious to know if the powers that be have gauged the potential aftermath of a ruling that won't satisfy the growing masses. And I'm curious to know if they would let their assessments impact any ruling. Lastly, in the event decisions have been made to minimize potential damaging reactionary events... can any influenced decision be called justice?
