I guess spring training doesn't matter. The steamrolling of the division has begun.

I actually think he's overthinking things a little bit, but nothing to really complain about...yet. One good smart move is moving Howard to 5th, though. After the game Asche had the day before, I don't know how you take him out already - the differences between him and Nix are marginable and I'd actually like to see him against lefties when it's early in the season.

i think it's fantastic we are platooning at 3rd base...with Jason fn Nix. awesome, really #-o

Chase couldn't have been thrilled about DHing.

Bullpen 4 runs in two games. not good. Hollands looked like he has a major league arm though not sure his 1st appearance should have been in the bottom of the 9th against their top of the order. must be some kind of baseball law that lefty relievers can't go more than one inning. not sure why bastardo wasn't brought back out.

good to have baseball back though.

yeah definitely surprised to not see young asche in there yesterday.

in the opener, i liked how he pinch hit for gwyn so early (6th? maybe the 5th?) and mayberry came through....definitely not something charlie would have done.

....but to contradict that he didn't pinch-hit Asche for Nix when a righty was in the game....

I know, it's early - but we gotta bitch about something, right?

I saw that coming a mile away. Don't know why. Just had a bad feeling after that 0-2 hit by Beltre. And why did they have the infield in on that ball hit past Utley. Double-play depth all the way there. Fuck.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a team play in the infield in to cut off the tying run with 1st and 3rd and 1 out. completely mind boggling.

papelbon is done. might be time to transition to Bastardo as the closer.

7 freaking runs in 3 games by the bullpen. freaking awful. could have had a nice star and the bullpen fucked it up.

I know it's counterintuitive, obviously, to the Phils success but if we're gonna go down then by God I love watching Papelbon's career unravel into nothingness.

I get why they played the infield in, and you can argue for and against it. With Martin up the chance of getting a double play has to be perfect. And on that hit ball there's still a chance you don't get him - dude's real fast. So, Sandberg - as I'm sure he's going to manage like he played, and play to win every game like it's game 7 of the World Series (ironic since he's never been there) - was looking to keep from the game being tied. It's not completely mind boggling. It still doesn't excuse Pap Smear from then proceeding to blow the tie with walks.

wrong - it's not solely about the double play there. playing the infield in allowed the winning run to get to 3rd with 1 out. if you play back and only get the one out at 2nd the winning run is still only at 1st base with 2 outs and a good chance you go to extra innings.

even the upside of playing the infield in would have the winning run at 2nd base with 2 outs and you lose on one hit.

once the tying run is at 3rd with less than two outs you have to assume that run is going to score and play for extra innings.

    it was a stupid move.

So this new format doesn't let me block him out like before. Damnit.
