    What is Maine?

I grew up out west because my Dad was in the Air Force, but when he retired & we were heading back home to Maine from Arizona, someone actually asked me “Is Maine really a state, or is it a different country entirely?” Wow!

Portland, ME rivals any city in the country in restaurants per capita. The food in the city is excellent, as well as the BEER! Rapidly growing art and music scene. Mumford played the portland eastern promenade for one of their gentlemen of the road stops. The black keys even said their portland show was their favorite in 10 years!

DMB is playing Bangor this summer now too...not inconceivable that PJ could pull it off...
  • If PJ wants to play here they will. I realize that there are other factors that dictate where they play such as how their promotion contracts read, but it would be a great reunion for me since it was my first show. As I have said, Free camping on my property for any PJ fan.

  • They have no contract to anyone.

    They own themselves.

Yes they own thier own music and distribution, but all bands go through a promoter when it comes to touring.

If the do come back to Maine I want it to be unreal. I just don't think the waterfront concerts venue in Bangor will do them justice. That is hands down the worst venue I have ever seen a show at. The sound is terrible too. I would rather see them play at the newly renovated Cumberland County Civic Center even though its smaller.

thanks for posting the O'Chang videos...friggin' hilarious! I'd love to see PJ play in Maine. Maine's been having some of my favorite bands come through in the past few years (Black Keys and Silversun Pickups to name a couple). A Pearl Jam concert in Maine would be the best.

Maine would be great. Then they could go to Magnetic Hill in Moncton and after that Halifax. I would love to know whats going on so I could plan some of my vacation this year.

Bump for Blaze restaurant that just opened in Bangor. Great food, 50 beers on draft, right downtown. Hit this place up Mainers!

  • I would be there in a minute, but its about 4 hours away from where I live in Maine.

  • Would be a dream. Going to the Arctic Monkeys tomorrow at the state theater. I can't imagine PJ would ever play a place that small, but like Jervin has said, the Civic Center should be ready to go by summer/fall and looking for acts to fill the calendar. They would kill it there. And there's like 3-4 new hotels going up right in the area. And plenty of great restaurants. Let's do this!

Was disappointed that I couldn't make that show. I am sure the AM will put on a hell of a show. I live right down the street from the State too, probably my favorite venue ever!

I’m sitting at home here in Portland, fresh from 3 days of skiing at The Loaf, and I love all these ideas!

I’m seeing the Arctic Monkeys tonight at the State and every time I‘m there, I imagine what it would be like if PJ played there. Seems to me it is like the Moore in Seattle but maybe smaller.

If we are going to dream, might as well go big. My vote is for Fort Gorges in Casco Harbor. It was built to guard Portland around the civil war. We could take our boats out (high tide only) or listen from the prom. I’ll even donate a generator for some power!

I just heard that the DMB show in Bangor in June was the first one of their shows to sell out today. That says something about the music in Maine and how much folks here are into it.

I pulled pit tickets, but couldn't risk taking a bath on the $$$ with the only option being will call. Finishing my graduate degree in may and have no idea where i'll be. Probably will have to try to get in day of the show. Hoping I can see it because I have recently got back into the band and haven't seen them since 2006-2007. Been a while!

Have to say though, I prefer Tweeter/Great Woods, Comcast/whatever the name is now to Waterfront concerts. Venue is terrible. That being said its great that acts are being booked in Bangor. I think the sound and venue is better in Mass, but you can hit the bars/restaurants before the show in Bangor, nice perk!

Great Video! I was on the floor on the left, but arrived a little too late to get super close. Still had a great time. My brother and I were reminiscing about the show last night. Such an awesome time!

Makes me salivate for their new album this year. Considering their new found love for portland I hope they come back to the CCCC.

I thought the show was fantastic. Seen them twice and they were very tight and spot on. And the got the sound correct at the State - there have been more than a few bands that haven't. The crowd was very into it.

Funniest moment was some knucklehead standing at his seat a bit in front of us was bullshit about something having to do with a guy three rows behind him. He would turn around and yell at the guy, but he would just ignore him and kept dancing. So the KH decides to two handed push the guy square in the chest - while coming over three seats to do it. The guy didn't cause a scene and went back enjoyng the song. KH calms down for about a minute and then turns around and clocks the dude in the jaw. Again coming over three seats to do it. They are now rolling around in the seats and it a pile up at this point.

Great part about this was that the Arctic Monkeys are playing a Beatles song for their 50th. The song - All You need is Love. Not sure how you can fight while this song is playing but KH nailed it.
  • A friend of mine connected to the State Theater says that a lot of bands refuse to listen to the people at the State about the sound. They come in and want to do their own thing. Apparently, bands that are willing to listen and take the advice of the people that know the room often have the best sound.

AM were great Friday night. I wished they played a longer set, but I knew what I was getting. They were very tight and sounded great.
