A friend of mine connected to the State Theater says that a lot of bands refuse to listen to the people at the State about the sound. They come in and want to do their own thing. Apparently, bands that are willing to listen and take the advice of the people that know the room often have the best sound.

AM were great Friday night. I wished they played a longer set, but I knew what I was getting. They were very tight and sounded great.

Interesting. I really like the shows at the state and there have been many great shows since is reopened. MMJ was unbelievable, Avett Bros, Dawes, BOH, Trey, Jeff Tweedy, and Beck. Hell I even had a blast at Bassnectar. I know I am forgetting a ton of shows too.

I haven't been overly impressed by the bands booked over the past year, but AM is definitely moving in the right direction!

It should be noted that the renovations at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland are done & they are open for business again… great place for a Pearl Jam show in a great small city!
Anyone who has been to a concert there before will certainly appreciate the increased # of bathroom stalls – no more missing an hour of a show while you are standing in line to go!

As long as they have fixed the beer situation, or lack there of I should say. I saw Alice in Chains a few years back at the Civic Center and they ran out of beer before the first song was even done!!

They made improvements to the Civic Center concession / vendor area, but I don't know what they are yet. Hopefully they'll keep the beer flowing though. I saw Foghat there back in the early 80's & I'm pretty sure that any shortages of beer that night were because the band drank most of it before the show - that was bad, they had to start a couple of songs over again cuz they screwed them up so bad

  • Unfortunately I think the beer lines and all concessions would be completely overwhelmed at any indoor venue Maine has to offer, Augusta Civic Center and Bangor Cross Center are even worse. How about a weekend Festival up in Limestone like Phish did.

That Beck show was one of the best I've ever seen. They sounded AMAZING (helped that it was the musicians from Sea Change).

Yeah, the line around that place was crazy when I arrived. Sat in balcony and had a blast! Billy Jean cover was great!

The guys from Pearl Jam should all dress up in plaid flannel shirts and pose for a group shot around our 31 foot statue of Paul Bunyan in Bangor :)

Not sure about Millonowhere, but where I am, we have had snow on the ground for 6 friggin months now! It started in October and I don't think we've had more than scant few days above freezing temps. We may have snow into June if this keeps up!
Crank up the PJ and dream of being toasty.

I'm not in Milli anymore. I'm a couple hours south, but it's no better down here. This has easily been the most miserable winter of my life.

I was up in Fryeburg yesterday for work, and they still have like 6-8 foot snowbanks. Seriously. It's friggin depressing. Not a ton of snow here in Portland. But, still, when it's 15 degrees, it doesn't really matter.

This is seriously worse than just inconvenient, our wildlife critters are starving. I almost walked right into a raccoon in my yard that was so weak, it just slowly walked away from me instead of running. I've been putting bird seed & nuts on the ground to help them get through until spring decides to show up…
Last night, there were 4 coons, a possum and a gray fox all within 3 feet of each other, peacefully eating the food I put out - too hungry to care what critter was next to them.

Thats hilarious! I didn't even realize that possums had migrated to Maine until probably two years ago when I saw one in Portland. It freaked me the fuck out! Haven't seen one since though
