Well I for one can say that I am prejudice against bigots. Uneducated inbred morons the lot of them.

and I am prejudice against ........welll no need to upset the few on this board.

    Godfather.

Here's the thing man, the guys that set off the bombs in Boston are scum, guys that flew the planes into the towers are scum, the American soldiers that shoot random civilians are scum, they are not representative of millions of people.

Like I've said before, I come from a nation where terrorism was rife, it was easy to generalise, very easy. And to be honest there was a long time where I did just that, I strongly disliked the British. However that's a dangerous road to go down, it becomes easy to explain away atrocities that are carried out.

What I've learned is that if I was born on the other side of the street I'd have probably been of the opinion my so called enimies held, so what it all comes down to is perception. Both sides are wrong, if we can't view others as at least human, is it any wonder that we begin to act like animals?

My two cents, for what it's worth.

look for what is shared in common than how we are different. Goes a long way toward healing.

    I have an Iranian professor

One of my favorites by far...

Great example of normal people doing normal things. Judging by the name of the surgeon who repaired my wife's eye, I'm guessing she comes from an Islamic background. She's a wonderful person and does great work- restoring sight! The Iranian guy who used to run the gas station down the road always had a kind word and often called me "brother"- not because I'm Islamic or pro-terrorist (I'm not) but because I didn't snub him and we were respectful and pleasant with each other.

People who have a fear and/or hatred of others because of the color of their skin, their race or creed or religion would do well to get out more often and meet more people and discover that, for the most part, we're all more similar than different. We all pretty much want the same things.

Your last sentence, YES ad infinitum. And also to mickeyrat & Moonpig.

I've mixed avoidance with observance in this thread so far. So not black and white, and much room for education, if not experience. I love some of the common sense and openminded comments I've read.

(brian, my Persian uncle used to call my father "brother". It's one among the many things I loved about him)

(GF, sometimes your comments throw me for a loop - as do those of pretty much everyone else from time to time, and I'm sure I've done the same...would still shake your hand if I met you - again, those of most everyone else here)

pps to brian - continued good thoughts to your wife.

If Muslims, Islamist, Latinos, Germans or who ever come to America and want to acclimate to this country FINE. But when they come and want to change our laws (Sharia creeping into our legal system) our culture then I am not down with that at all.......

We have a guy at work that has to wash his feet and pray at certain times. He does not understand why people have a problem with that. I tried to explain that we don't do that here..we work at the time we are scheduled to work......while he is praying and washing his feet we are still busting ass doing the work that needs to be done. He does not understand that we need him at the time he is scheduled to help get things done.

If we wanted to live in the middle east we would move there.....and what I don't understand is why they even want to come here?

Are you his boss? If not, then what's your problem? Does he make up the time spent praying later in the day? The again, I don't expect an honest answer from you. No offence.

Oh, and Sharia law isn't creeping into your legal system, regardless of what those wacky internet blogs are telling you.

Yes! When some one from another culture calls me "brother" it's great. When my Iranian gas station friend said "brother" to me I knew it was sincere. There was also a sadness about it as if he were saying, "Thank you for not hating me like most everyone else around here seems to".
