            No war
By the apparent desperation in the words and videos, I suspect there is some growing doubt and dissention. Itll work itself out, and I would suspect with the end of the Kim Jong rule.
Hopefully (and more likely), the new leadership will have some kind of reasonability.
The only thing I am worried about is if this Kim Jong Un gets so desperate, as a last resort, turns the artillery on Seoul (and not the Klausen kind). That would cause a lot of damage and innocent death. No doubt that our and SK's forces would obliterate NK's military in a matter of hours... but I dont believe most in their military knows what the hell is going on. The second they realized what Kim Jong got them in to, they would just as soon quit.0

 Great points.
Warriors will fight and die for home and family... not for dictators. We saw this with Saddam Hussein.
 ...
Now, Hitler... that was different. He turned the defeated, war beaten, poverty stricken Gemany into an industrial machine and brought out the nationalistic pride of the German people. Kim Jong Fatass is no Hitler.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

With a pre-emptive war. The world will see how backwards and incapable NK truly is and we will again look like monsters..... and also be expected to cover the tab again.0

Agreed. All we need is another pre-emptive war on some bullshit dictator with a military whose arsenal includes a ton of white flags. Nation building... we've already proven that we suck at that.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

I agree, but I'm sure he already has someone just as kooky to replace him.Last-12-Exit wrote:http://news.yahoo.com/nkorea-refuses-let-skoreans-enter-joint-factory-042751499--finance.html
I think its time the CIA took this guy out.
I am personally really worried about this situation, because I don't think that the guy with his finger on the button is sane. At all.
Time for these assholes to be shut down though, one way or another. Enough is enough..... I hope that the US and SK are ready for a lot of refugees though. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0

We had this older Korean gentleman who used to come into the book store fairly frequently. He was difficult to understand but very gentle and very friendly and I always like seeing him (he has since passed away). I am thankful for that nice old Korean man because he reminded me that the craziness is about the bat-shit crazy leaders in N.K., not the people."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

The first half of that doc is pretty clever and very well done - but the last 20 minutes or so spirals too hard into fashion and celeb bashing to feel particularly authentic. Wonderful film either way in my opinion and worth a watch by everybody.Nature drunk and High0

Well of course.... Well.... I can say that South Koreans are cool. They have good senses of humour. But I can't speak for North Koreans, or what they're like at all, because I've never met one. They aren't allowed to leave North Korea. I doubt that the man you got to know, Brian, was North Korean, and if he was, he was one of the very few who managed to escape. But I have the feeling that South Koreans and North Koreans must be VERY different kinds of people, since they are living vastly different lives. From what I do know, North Koreans are victims of a whole lot of very fucked up propaganda, have no concept of what the rest of the world is actually like because most to all of their information is controlled by the government, and they are subject to unimaginable levels of repression.brianlux wrote:We had this older Korean gentleman who used to come into the book store fairly frequently. I disagree as I don't want our country involved at all. I certainly don't want Bay of Pigs round 2, either.0

I don't think that the US has a choice as to whether or not they're involved. They are not the aggressors in this scenario, and this is nothing like the situation that caused the Bay of Pigs crisis (though the climax of this whoel thing could be similar). I think the US has tried to avoid serious conflict with N. Korea for as long as they could.peacefrompaul wrote:Last-12-Exit wrote:http://news.yahoo.com/nkorea-refuses-let-skoreans-enter-joint-factory-042751499--finance.html

Of course it isn't the same scenario, I just don't want to see it turn into the same outcome. We don't need to be assassinating leaders of countries.
If they want to attack us or other countries, best of luck. The missile will be shot down and their country will be turned to dust in a matter of days.
That's not how I want it to go and I don't think Un is that big of an idiot.0

Oh, I'd rather see Kim Jong Un get assassinated than first South Korea being attacked, and then North Korea attacked in retaliation. Assassinating that cocksucker could prevent a war. On the other hand, assassinating that cocksucker could actually escalate things, depending on who steps up in defense of him, i.e. whoever he's got lined up to step in for him (who might that be??), or even China might decide to jump in and increase tensions???? God knows where this could go. :? Pretty tricky little situation, and Kim Jong Un is in the driver's seat right now, which is pretty much the worst case scenario, depending on just how far he's willing to take this. At this point, I think the UN is completely ineffective in the matter (due to no fault of their own, really - they just don't have any particularly viable options).peacefrompaul wrote:PJ_Soul wrote:

The UN is typically ineffective all the time. I've found them to be good for nothing but harboring a goldmine of statistics... but that's for another time. :fp:
No need to worry, I'm 99% sure the CIA is working on something.... *sigh* busy times for them! North Korea and setting up weapons distribution for Syrian Rebels.0
