    Big fan of "Ramada Inn"
And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
    I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
  • I just checked out the HMV Canada website. The new album on vinyl is $93. NINETY THREE DOLLARS. I'm currently reading Neil's book, and he freely admits several times (and I'm only half way through) to being a material guy.

    No shit.

    First listen.
Really like Ramada Inn, Walk Like a Giant and She's Always Dancing
The alt version of psychedelic pill is more to my liking than the album version

Love how Driftin Back starts acoustic and then drops back into the jam, but its a little too long for me. I can't see myself putting it on often and finishing it. I could see myself liking it more if it was condensed down to about 8-10 minutes, but i still dig what neil was doing with it.

I like the shout outs on Twisted Road but that and born in ontario i don't see myself listening to a lot in a few years. For the love of man i need to listen to again.

Whenever Neil plays with the horse it all sounds the same. I remember on Year of the Horse Neil makes some comments like "can you smell the horse on this one" and "it's all the same song" and that rings true here for the most part. To me its good and bad, but they just fall into a style of jamming that they are comfortable in and have been doing for 40 years.

I hear riffs from lots of his other songs or similar chord progressions or similar solo styles. I'm not hating on the guy i love it, but part of the reason i loved Le Noise so much is it seemed to break that "neil young song pattern" and still be neil.

so i guess what i'm saying is this album is exactly what i thought it would be. Which is a good thing yet mildly disapointing.

Thats just after one listen though I'm sure I'll be jamming away to this stuff for a while.

Needless to say i like this a lot more than americana which i was not too into and have not listned to much at all since teh week i got it

I totally get what you mean about some riffs sounding so familiar. I definitely noticed that as well. Anyway, some songs have been ringing around, have stuck in my head which is nice. :)

I haven't bought any of Neil's recent albums on vinyl (mainly for financial reasons) but I wanted to make sure that I had the reissues - the Official Release Series of his first 4 records and the Performance Series live discs

I just picked these up at the weekend:

The Sugar Mountain album sounds awesome on vinyl! :D I managed to get an order in for Psychedelic Pill before Amazon fixed the price so hopefully that will turn up in time for Christmas!

Alright...I need some help in picking some live Neil stuff.

I'm a late comer to Neil (just became a big fan in the last 3 years), and so while I have most of the studio albums, I don't have much live stuff.

Any recommendations? Any spots I can go to get them?

  • i was surprised to read that it wasnt until the last few years that he gave up smoking pot. I swear I remember some book of Rolling Stone interviews from the 90's, and he talks about maybe in 1992 or so, giving up pot. In an article promoting his new book, he was saying he hasnt written a song without being under the influence of pot in 40 years or something.

I definitely recommend the Weld discs. Fabulous & my main NY music for a long time until I've woken up & made myself listen to more recently.

Any thoughts on "Americana"? Is it worth picking up? Inquiring minds want to know....

I can't stop listening to Ramada Inn. So awesome, so emotional, as someone else said, so real!

I actually enjoy the disc 1 version of Psychadelic Pill.

I have to give Drifting Back a couple more chances. The lyrics about MP3's I found to be self-serving.

Couple duds on there - Born in Ontario - ugh.

She's Always Dancing sounds really good. Overall a very nice album. 8-)

I know. It took me so by surprise I was just a bunch of adrenaline fuelled explosiveness at work yesterday morning! Then the high wore off & I felt like I needed a nap! :o:lol::lol: I'll be ticket buying with me pre-sale passwords next week. Oh & I saw my Mum & Dad last night & they want to come to a show too! I'll be in the pit & I'll get them seated tickets but still. they don't often go to concerts. I played them Psychedelic Pill in prep & I think they liked it. :)

I just booked flights booked to & from Wellington around the NY & Ch show so it's going to be NY & CH in Akl & Wlg for me in March next year + Glen Hansard in Akl, Melbourne & Sydney! :o I'm going to have 5 concerts in 4 cities in 2 countries in March next year now! That's almost as good as 8 PJ shows in 6 cities, in 6 countries in 3 weeks in June-July this year(I think I've got those numbers right :? )!! 8-)
