I'm partly in the gang, and partly out of it. I love No Code, like Riot Act, but Binaural is my least favourite album - I love all the 90s albums plus riot act and backspacer - but I think you're probably right that I am out of step with this board on the post-2000 albums - liking riot act and backspacer and disliking Avocado and Binaural  I don't know either - I just know what I like ;) If I had to explain it, I would probably say the main factor is the quality of the songwriting on the albums I dislike :(

No one can tell you what you like or dislike; that's a given!

Does this mean I can keep listening to Riot Act and Backspacer? Cool!

the strangest thing happened to me last week with Riot Act and Avocado.
Riot Act used to be my least favorite (but I still love it), but after listening to these two back to back, I realized how much I love many of the songs on RA, and how flat Avocado sounded to me. It pushed avocado into last place (still like most of it though ;) ).

Im not saying it's wrong, but anyone who does not like riot act, cannot be trusted, i've decided :D (btw, binaural had it all, uniqueness/solidness .. can't beat that with a stick ;) )

Only as long as I can keep listening to No Code and Binaural. If not, no deal.

You can listen to No Code for the rest of your days. Binaural you're allowed one more year, and then it goes in the bin.

Yes, you are onto something there.

Although at this point, the tide will no doubt turn against me, and I'll be ostracised by the board for hating on Binaural.

I think I'm remembering why I gave up trying to post in these threads!

To me, it's just odd that the album is so disliked. Riot Act is in my Top 4 PJ albums - Ten, Vs, Vitalogy and Riot Act. I am not a fan of No Code or Binaural.

It's funny how you say it's odd for people to dislike Riot Act so much, and then you turn around and say that you're not a fan of No Code and Binaural. Did you really just do that??

To the rest of us, it's odd that you are not a fan of No Code or Binaural! lol

Binaural is, objectively speaking, Pearl Jam's worst album ;)

edit - meaning, I am not part of this 'rest of us' your describe!

Binaural is my least favorite album of Pearl Jam's. I love Riot Act.

Riot is good, i prefer it to Avocado which is my least fav as I just don't think it's as exciting or challenging as any of the others. But I agree on the comment about Ed's vocals... man, could've been so much better if he opened his mouth lol.

I don;t think many people would say No Code is their best album and neither do I think it's their best but it is my fav.

Riot Act is what No Code should have been, experimental but still rocks hard. No Code is just too much like EV's solo work and not enough like Pearl Jam.

I will never listen to that album with Help Help in it again. I don't even have that song on my ipod/phone with the rest of the album. And the one Riot Act song they played at Alpine 1.......Help Help!!!

I like most of the other Riot Act songs though..at least enough to have them saved and listen to them every so often..but that album is still my least or 2nd least favorite PJ album.

I couldn't have said it better myself. It took me this long to warm up to Riot Act and I appreciate it more now than ever...but I think it will be a cold day in hell when I'll be able to stomach Help, Help. Hitchhiker, fuck, SWEET LEW is better than that song.

I actually think help, help is a really cool track; one of the few standouts on that album.

Just look at these lyrics and think about what's going on right about now on a certain street in NYC:

A think tank of aloof multiplication
A nicotine wish and a Columbus decanter
    Retrenchment and hoggishness
    The aristocrat choir sings
    'What's the ruckus?'
The haves have not a clue

    The immenseness of suffering
And the odd negotiation, a rarity
    With onionskin plausibility of life,...
    And a keyboard reaffirmation

And then think about when this song was written.....Pretty sad really but it also reveals the brilliance of one FRONTDUDE we all know. He often comes up with most clever shit you can imagine.

people don't like it because it's a shit album with copious amounts of boring filler.

    pretty simple really.
Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.

Ahh, the exquisite Riot Act, a fine piece which seems to reserve itself for those attuned to appreciating the finer substance, subtleties, nuances, and sheer brilliance contained therein.

The winning-touchdown-head shake in Help, Help, the drag-yourself-across-the floor sleeze in Half Full, and the African Tribal dance in Can't Keep, are not recognized by all listeneners, as hard as that is to imagine by those so intuned.
