    It Still Moves.

That's what you wanna start with.
I'd recommend this. It's the record I fell in love with this band on. But I agree with my girl twisted thoughts on her assessment...
But once you hear the songs live, it will change your life. I think most accessable album is "Z". "It Still Moves" is also a good one to get into, but again, it just isnt the same. These guys are meant to be heard/seen live. Listen to either of those two studio albums, but then, get OKONOKOS.

Cool, thanks everyone. I'll pick up a studio and the live one. F it.

I would go with "Z" - the bass intro to Wordless Chorus will get you hooked and the sheer genius of naming a song based on a truth...there really aren't any words to the chorus and it's so awesome to sing along to at live shows (the bass intro also makes for a perfect concert opener)...i like it still moves as well but most of the great performances on Okonokos come from the Z album

Z is in my top 10 albums of 2000-2010....every song just fits perfectly and dondante is one of the best tracks ever, and ever will be by this band

I saw them at lollapalooza 07, but when they were on I was kinda of far from the stage and after a long hot day, was just ready for Pearl Jam. Also, Wilco is one of my favorite bands and i like Band of Horses alot, and from what i gather, MMJ is similar.
    ?

They have some similarities to Wilco, but BoH have a pretty identical sound. Imagine them with several extra layers of awesomeness. In short BoH is a really plain version of MMJ.

nah, At Dawn is the one to start with.

well, that's quite a compelling argument.

It's funny how 2 members of "The Monsters of Folk" will have 2 of the best albums this year.

"Recorded in a church in their hometown"

I can't frickin wait for this album!

Dewiecox, I completely agree on the BoH thing... I heard BoH first time live supporting PJ last year at MSG and thought the same thing. The music is more simple in comparison to MMJ, they're a kick ass band but MMJ just wipe the floor with them live.

no argument needed. just stating which album i think is there best.

Also, you should reread the initial post which stated he didn't want a live album reccomendation ;)

My Morning Jacket is thrilled to play alongside the one and only Preservation Hall Jazz Band in this beautiful new film from Danny Clinch. The film details a magically collaborative performance between the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and MMJ- late one night down in the French Quarter at the legendary Preservation Hall itself, along with documentary footage and interviews about the Preservation Hall and its rich New Orleans heritage. Please come down and check it out!

The film is premiering at SXSW on Thursday, March 17th
    2:30pm Paramount Theater
    713 Congress (between 7th and 8th Street)

    this could be super!

Can't wait to see Louisiana Fairytale! That looks so awesome. The RS article on that show last year was awesome. Can't wait to see the performance. Also, I bet it has the same feel as Immagine in Cornice and Foo Fighters Skin and Bones DVDs since it's Danny Clinch.

So hows everyone enjoying the trio of T5 songs (Butch Cassidy, Way That He Sings, OBH)? The One Big Holiday is awesome with the horns. Takes me back to NYE at MSG. Ah memories.

I really hope Carl performs a show in Boston at some point. That album is so awesome. I'd love to see him do his thing apart from the Jim circus.

I hope to god they tour a little more extensively then what the email stated. I know it says that these are venues handpicked by the band to debut the new album, but I hope, at some point, they come a little closer to the northeast.
