LET'S GO MAKE HISTORY GENTLEMEN...Comments By Jayson Stark

Roy Oswalt plans to accept his proposed trade to the Philadelphia Phillies, a baseball source who has spoken with Oswalt's camp told ESPN.com Thursday.

    Oswalt

Oswalt hasn't officially waived his no-trade clause to OK the deal, the source said. But after considering his options and speaking with friends familiar with the Phillies' situation, the source said the Houston Astros right-hander is prepared to go to Philadelphia.

It was not immediately clear if the Phillies or Astros offered any financial incentives for Oswalt to drop his trade veto rights. The Astros will pay $11 million of the approximately $23 million that the 32-year-old right-hander has guaranteed through 2011, sources said.

In return for Oswalt, the Astros would get back left-handed starter J.A. Happ and two prospects, according to sources.

While the Phillies prospects have not been identified, sources said the Astros have pressed hard for first baseman Jonathan Singleton, considered the team's best minor-league hitting prospect. Singleton is currently at Class A Lakewood in the South Atlantic League, where he was hitting .312 with 18 doubles and 12 home runs as of Thursday.

The agreement on trade terms was first reported by KRIV-TV in Houston

I think there's a big chance Singleton is in there. I'm okay with that.

Nah. 2 mil buyout. Hence, the "option" part. You guys didn't know that from the beginning?

Happ, singelton and prob Worley,is most likely the package. There's no doubt that Hou is giving us the 11 cause we agreed to put Singelton in the deal.

what's the deal with singleton, cosart or colvin that makes you reluctant about the deal?

the phils work with a limited budget, so young players like them are invaluable resources. cosart and colvin will be top 100 prospects next winter. I wouldn't trade those type of talents for an aging pitcher with a bad back.

singleton is gonna be a monster too. a scout that saw him this summer said he was the best hitter he had seen in the minors since manny ramirez

Sounds like it is a good deal, especially since his option is not being picked up. Sounding like a good haul for Astros too, better than the Dbacks did for Haren and he is more valuable.

Once again, it's time to not get ahead of ourselves. Get that division lead back from those douches in Georgia, and kick it up a notch.

    Halladay-Hamels-Oswalt

Time for the clever people to come up with nicknames. I'm sure they'll be hilarious. Not really.

My initial gay nickname would be a ROYale with cheese. Get it? GET IT?????

what did you see the package is?

buddy just texted me happ, worley, and gose. Without the option, that would be a tremendous trade for the phils.

Yeah, I just saw that on trade rumors. That would be ridiculously good.

I didn't see anything, was assuming singleton was in it because of what stark said and the $11 mil. Just an assumption. If not hell of a pick up.

Fair enough but the team has sold out every game for the last year, I assume they have one of the better TV deals in the game, so they can't be doing badly revenue side. Plus my thing with prospects on big market teams, if these guys are as good as being said, then make sure your scouting department is doing their homework when the draft rolls around next June and then you won't have to worry about losing these prospects in a deal like this.

Actually, their tv deal is not one of the better ones is what I'm told from a friend who would know. Comcast got them locked into a lower rate than average for the league back when the Phils weren't that good. Not sure when the deal re-ups though.

Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't know that about Comcast. But that being said if the deal is up in a few years, the Phillies certainly would have the leverage on their side based on the last few years and if the Oswalt deal works out like they hope, that only adds more leverage (at least my opinion, I have no idea what negotiations for TV rights are like).

Not that I know what tv negotiations are like but would they have leverage over a company that just bought NBC?

trading prospects and replacing them with new prospects sets you back though. If you trade a guy in high A and replace him with a 2010 draft pick, the draft pick is already 2 years behind where the guy you traded was.

Phils are maxed out as far as revenue goes. They can't sell more tickets or merch than they are now. only way to increase revenue is a playoff run and/or ticket price hike.

I get your point about trading prospects, but the 3 I listed are the phils best now that brown is up. I would only include them in deals for a small number of MLB guys. oswalt would definitely not be one of those guys
