funny, I just looked up DMB tickets at Virginia Beach and they were $84.50 after fees

Well then I very much stand corrected. But I know I'm right about Radiohead and Green Day.

Radiohead is also hypocritical in other ways. In DC they made a big deal about making their shows at venues easily reached by public transit, then played Nissan Pavillion where not only is there no public transportation, but it usually takes waiting in traffic for 3 hours to get in and out.

Anyway, no band is going to live up to the levels certain people hold them to. Would I like for tickets to be cheaper? Of course, but Pearl Jam may play 10 shows a year domestically now as opposed to their longer 30 date tours. They're going to raise the price so their income stays the same (it's also makes a lot less financial sense to do short tours for merchandise, supports staff, etc.).

The other bands you list generally do much larger tours (except for Radiohead)

    I said it before, but:
to put it in perspective, many lawyers and other professoinals get hundred of dollars an hour. The way I see it, if PJ is playing a 2 1/2 hour show, I am paying them $30/hr. That's five bucks per bandmate. Pretty damn cheap if you ask me.

(and that's not even considering the crew, and equipment, and gas, and soda pop, and sudoku puzzles, security, parking, lot maintenance, bathroom maintenance, venue fees, ed's wine, plungers, babysitters, hookers, bail money, late night tattoos, moon pies, corndogs, moonshine, wait, what are we talking about again?...)

I don't have a pot to piss in, but the cost of tix dont bother me.

I keep some of my concert stubs at work. here's what i got:

All prices are FACE VALUE not incl charges

    08 PJ $77
    08 Neil Young & Wilco $75
    08 Pumpkins $49
    06 Tool $45
    06 Billy Joel $90
    09 Morrissey $25
    05 Stones $101
    07 Police $52
    07 Goo Goo Dolls $30

I go to tons of concerts, these are just the stubs I have handy. I can assure you since 08 PJ is routinely the most per show that I've gone to... More than the Cure, Depeche Mode, and even U2 was cheaper in a stadium. More than Neil Young at MSG, more than Tom Petty,

hell even Ray Davies was under $50 AFTER CHARGES

for everyone saying "if you are complaining about ticket prices then just don't go" that's just fucking stupid. this is my favorite band. i will pay whatever is necessary to go to all of shows i possibly can. that doesn't mean i can't be fucking pissed the tickets are $92 when my first show in 2005 i saw for $45. as was mentioned earlier in this thread pearl jam tickets are actually much more than many other bands. yeah U2 charges more, but people like dave matthews do not.

A family member of mine just got done paying her lawyer 2gs an hour...

If people actually saw how much the band actually got after they paid everyone/everything else was paid they would shut the fuck up... this is one of the best bands ever, they deserve the right at this point to charge market value for their hard work.

Why open this thread then? this should not be merged. It's a fundamental criticism of what PJ has become and what they used to be. and it relates to their position amongst their peers.

It's not just another. I didn't get tickets thread. This is a "I got tickets and I'm still pissed thread" these are much harder to find

Actually, everyone is wrong about Dave Matthews.

I just checked a bunch of his tickets. For amphitheaters the prices are between $65-$75, which, after ticketmaster fees, is exactly what pearl Jam is charging +/- maybe $5.

So I don't really know what everyone is talking about.

Idiots for what? Pointing out that PJ who not long ago was all about keeping prices low is now the most expensive ticket OF ANY of their peers. Phish is cheaper than these guys to.

Hell can anyone name 1 peer band that charges more than PJ? Cause I can't think of any.

He actually did bold Neil specifically which I don't have the price for. It's possible that the Neil show was more, but I think I paid under $90 total to see Neil at MSG... but it's possible I paid more.

nonetheless. that would be a small battle won by the PJ apologists, but the war on this front is won.

Since 08 DMB I think has run about 10-15 cheaper than PJ in the NY area.

but you are right there are plenty of other mainstream bands charging considerably less than PJ.

Why do so many people post on a message for a band and all they do is complain?

Click on some folks' names, see their posts, and they are all complaints.

I'm no sheep, but I don't join a place where all I'm going to do is complain either.
