So exactly what prevents them from doing what Radiohead did with "In Rainbows"? That's the model PJ should follow and that's a band that has managed to keep their dignity fully intact. I doubt any of their children are goin hungry either.Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight

What are they selling out? They "sold-out" when they signed with Sony in 1990, played Tower Records, and so forth.
They are selling music. I hope they sell out!0 -

Do you not think that while under the Sony label (Epic), they had professional obligations or responsibilities to fulfill? I'm willing to bet that they had to do stuff like this as well. It's business guys.....I don't get the problem. This was one, small requirement in their contract...3 songs and they're considered "sellouts".
Not trying to pick a fight, but...it's not the 90's anymore, kids. These guys are a band and def. about the music, but they also have to act like a small business. I mean...consider them being offered a huge deal by label "x" where the had to do ipod commercials, endorse Coke or Pepsi, and started a fashion line...
Sell outs? Occasionally I'm embarrased by some of the statements I read on this board.
Name me another artist, 20 years young that has acted with the ethical and generous spirit that PJ has over the years...
You know...the f'd up thing is that these guys probably could've taken in 3 times the amount they have by now. Go back and read up on your history from 95-98.
In 1998 they toured the world using Ticketmaster... Don't think they could have raked in anymore money aside from getting paid millions of dollars to put Verizon Wireless billboards on both sides of the stage like they did on the 2008 tour.0 -

Although they really sold long before today, They are just shoving it in people's faces now.
A few of us are trying to put our finger on when they jumped the shark.
Some say 2006, When they brought out the lasers during the shows and Ed was drinking water out of his wine bottle at every show.
I think it was even earlier... When Jack was booted.
So after going to 100 plus shows starting at Cameo 1992, I bid PJ adu.

People like you obsessed with selling out need to get off your ass and get a job no one will call you a sell out just get a job. It's the poor and unaccomplished who talk about selling out. Walk upstairs and tell your mom and dad I said hello.
What the f*ck are you talking about?
Well, It all kinda makes more sense now. This is the typical fan that the band plays in front of now.
Grow Up! It's just a band. A joke of a band now at that.Post edited by Haywood Yablomee on0 -
Ok...so what, they used TM in 98 to sell tickets to their shows. That was after an extremly long battle w/TM and multiple attempts at trying to find an alternative solution. At that point...they had no other option...and frankly still don't.
Is that your definition of "selling out"?
Dude...they could've done so much more than use TM to sell their concert tickets to ppl who opted to pay their money and see them perform.
They were destroying themselves because there wasn't an alternative to TM. They're a rock band, not a ticketing company. I don't think you're seeing the big picture, buddy.
And back on my comment in re: 95-98....Post Vitalogy...they could've taken a shit on a t shirt and sold it for 100 bucks and ppl would've bought it........They literally walked away from becoming as big as...say...U2.
It's beyond me....and a waste of time....why someone thinks this is a valid arguement "Sellouts". When Eddie's got a line of cologne out and Stone becomes a fashion designer, we'll talk then. Until that day, crack a book open and realize these guys are just doing what they do. If you don't like it, don't listen or participate....

So you should have said 1995-1997.
Have fun at the shows. Hold up a "Satan's Bed" sign! And tell Ed to listen to the lyrics again.0 -
these guys just donated $200,000 to Haiti..........I didn't see any posts about that.0

i'm curious why people waste time posting on a board for a band that they don't even like.
these guys are not spring chickens anymore. people change as they age. priorities change. but besides that, who gives a fuck? my room could probably be considered a "shrine" lol but i don't expect them to stay the same as they were in the 90s, that would be pretty sad, actually, if they never grew up and stopped being angry about everything. there is nothing wrong with enjoying success.
i'm fine with people jumping off the bandwagon...i wish more people would have jumped off before i wasted over 6 hours of my life hitting "F5" in vain.keep on rockin' in the free world.0 -

maybe they're not sellouts, they just suck for finding the time to fly out to Minnesota for a corporate gig, but cant find the time to tour Texas or anywhere close in a decade.Post edited by LikeAnOpeningBandForTheSun on0

:problem: no...95-98 marks the timeline when this band said "peace out"..."we'll do things precisely as how we see fit." Actually...I should've stated 95-00.0
