I wasn't breastfeeding; just walking around letting them hang out just for the heck of it. ;) got me some free drinks it did.

My fruit-throwing skills are the best...so look out! ;)

I bet you got some free drinks...and Richard's Street is certainly the place for that type of behaviour. Capes are discouraged...

And...I used to shot-put pineapples in high school...but if you're that good...maybe I better bring out my melons!

OK...I'm really tired...I have to go...

I don't have a problem with breastfeeding. If I see a woman breastfeeding, I just turn my head. It's fairly simple.

But I don't really agree with the angry breastfeeding moms protesting in front of the store. A talk with the manager probably would have solved the problem, especially if H&M has a policy that allows breastfeeding. If not, further steps are still possible.

Yes, breastfeeding is natural but as someone pointed out many things are. If you talk to a naturist, he'll tell you it's perfectly normal and natural to walk around naked. And he's right too. Yet society seems to have a problem with that, it's even illegal.

My point is that although it's natural and normal, some people will not like it and disagree and these people are not ignorant. And a little respect from both sides is appropriate and I think this is the case most of the time. If it's not, is it really necessary to gather a bunch of breastfeeding women to protest? Or sue

I think if she sues her real motives become apparent.
    THANK YOU, LOSTDAWG!

  • You share the feeling that breastfeeding is similar to taking a shit?
    Pretty much.

I have literally never seen anyone breastfeed in public without being discreet.

For a long time, formula was erroneously viewed and promoted as the healthier option. A lot more mothers are choosing to breastfeed than they were ten years or so ago. More breastfeeding mothers = more mothers breastfeeding in public.
hmmmmm...never in my life have i seen a woman breastfeed in ANY manner besides discreetly. you either live in an area with a high # of exhibitionist women :p...or simply some were publicly out to make a point? out at any mall, wherever...discretion is always the norm. the average woman does NOT want to draw attention to herself, she just wants to feed her baby. for the rare people you might encoutner, odd to say the least...but again, i far rather allow that than disallow the right to breastfeed publicly.
Except for the topics here where woman hold a breastfeeding sit-in and become a spectacle on their own.

Discretely, I don't think anyone here has a problem with. It is the lets gather as many breastfeeding woman with their babies together to make a point. Come one, there are far worse things in this world to focus your energy on. Cover up and don't do it in masses and all is well.

You didn't know where to look? What would you have been looking at if her breast wasn't exposed? That might have been a good start. ;)

I like that she was so cavalier about it. Maybe next time that happens, you and the rest of the people in your group won't be so surprised or uncomfortable. :D
See, and I see it differently; the mother was extremely rude to her guests.

I love that story :) And the cubs are so cute. And that's just the point really...we can look at animals nursing and it's cute and broadcast on tv...but when a woman does it everyone gets uncomfortable - simply because women's breasts have been sexualized so much.

You say that as though it's a bad thing. It was an evolutionary process by human beings. And there is no turning back now. Men and woman alike view boobs as sexual objects. For it is only nursing mothers and their newborns who view them as what mother-nature intended.

I don't think it's a bad thing. Just making the point as to way it's even raised as an issue when a woman does it.

There's a huge different between the animal kingdom and our crappy human system. Drawing parallels seems a bit weird to me.

The fact that some people get uncomfortable has very little to do with breasts having been sexualized. Nudity in general is not accepted. We've been taught to hide our bodies, especially all the funs parts (the private parts, it's even in the name).

Animals rarely wear clothes and if they do it's totally weird and sick. Yet when people wear clothes it's normal. What's that all about?

I don't get it. If you are okay with showing your breasts in public to feed your child, why then have any objections to women who don't have babies walking around topless? It's just as natural. I can tell you this, if you all expose your children to breasts on a regular basis, they probably won't have a problem with a woman breastfeeding.

Well it's the same process - a mammal feeding their young. Like I said - it's the meaning we apply to it. And your points back that up.

It's the same process, yes. But animals are not humans. If your argument is that breastfeeding should be 'accepted' because it happens in the animal world as well and because it's natural... I cannot agree.

It's not just a coincidence that we feed our young the same way that some animals do. We are animals too.

So-called "private parts" are considered private because of their assocation with sexuality.
