    .

i'm still hoping to go but everyone i know backed out, so i don't know if i can make it. It's a really long drive to make by yourself and with some of the rumours around the lolla lineup, i might be going there instead.

  • Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson Vs. Ruben Villareal??

What happened to Kimbo vs some real competition??

yeah, that's the name i've been reading the most, but things could change before the finalized card comes out. in any case, it will probably be kimbo vs. "insert journeyman fighter's name here".

on the last elitexc show, they insinuated that ken shamrock could be kimbo's next opponent, but i think that was contingent on a win in the last cage rage event. ken was knocked out by buzz berry, so then berry's name was rumoured too.

i have a feeling it will be a few fights before kimbo gets a real test, lbc. the only other HW of any significance that elitexc has is antonio silva and he's a potential (more likely probable ;)) loss for kimbo at this point, so i don't see them putting that one together anytime soon. for now, they'll probably keep signing free agent fighters to one fight deals for kimbo or they'll continue to borrow fighters from some of their affiliate organizations.

kimbo's ground game is supposedly pretty solid, but as long as they keep putting him up against guys who are simply willing to trade strikes with him on the feet, i guess we'll have to wait to see it.

just my thoughts...:D i'm more interested on who will be on the rest of the televised card...gina and silva of course! the lawler / smith match should be an entertaining stand up, slug it out fight too.
  • oh yeah, there's also speculation after don frye pulled out of the yamma pit fighting event that he may have been offered the fight with kimbo. i have a feeling that is just the internet nerds (like me :)) starting that speculation.
  • some people are taking the train from toronto to montreal, right? ;)

they don't have this on my side!...

  • i know! travel from the same city would be sweet. of course, i'm the one with close to 20 hours on the train...so that's easy for me to say! haha :D i'm looking forward to it, though. i'm sure there'll be a couple of people i know and many others i don't who are heading to the same place.

didn't notice the tapout party until you mentioned it. skyscrape, mask and punkass coming to montreal to throw a party. good times. :) seems there are a number of familiar MMA personalities who will be around!

...no, there won't be too many people in montreal for that weekend! :D

you need lots of travel music. i'm tellin ya... do you have PJ at Benaroya? it's my favorite... :)

LMAO! who are those dudes???? they look like they got lost on the way to a WWE event?? :p

oh, by the way, i just got an email from UFC about an auction they're holding for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd row tickets for Montreal, including a signed poster, and a chat with Dana White. My first thought was "WHAT? It's not a charity auction???" lol... you know you tour with Pearl Jam too much when.... :D

+1 to EVERYTHING you said Ceg! I love Benaroya ... it's always in my car.

The Tapout guys are kinda odd ... but I bet they'd be fun to party with. You could re-use your KISS halloween costume and fit right in with them. ;)

man, that looks insane, too bad i already have my tickets and hotel or i'd do it. Some of the the guys i'm going with are staying at the Delta, so i guess they got lucky and got a party hotel.
The TapOut Guys are insane, i'd love to party with them. It would definatly be something i probably wouldn't remember :)

  • :D:D:D you guys are too funny! :)

yep, i'll put benaroya in my little cd packet for the trip for sure! maybe some wintersleep, french gangsta rap, etc.

yeah, the tapout guys certainly like to stand out, but i think they started that as a way to draw attention at shows years ago when they were selling t-shirts out of the trunk in the parking lot.

i guess the makeup never came off for mask and skyscrape must like his wigs. i think punkass would probabaly dress that way anyway. ;) they actually do a lot for up and coming fighters in terms of sponsorships and motivation, and help with their connections. i'm sure it will be a mighty after party they throw in montreal!
  • just checked my tv guide and once again TSN is being inconsistent with the WEC shows. they showed the last one on an hour delay...the one before that was a week later, they didn't show one of them at all, and have shown a couple live.

no show tonight, unfortunately. it's on versus in the states, though. there's a couple of interesting matches here, but not their best show on paper. i'm surprised alessio vs. larson is on the undercard. oh well, i'll hope to find the torrent later on in the evening.

i was really looking forward to avena vs. miura too!

    WEC 33, March 26, 2008 - Sacramento, California - Versus

    Main Card:

Doug Marshall Vs. Brian Stann - WEC LHW Championship
Chael Sonnen Vs. Bryan Baker (Paulo Filho out)
    Marcus Hicks Vs. Ed Ratcliff
    Rich Crunkilton Vs. Sergio Gomez
    Steve Cantwell Vs. Tim McKenzie

    Pre-lims:

    Brock Larson Vs. John Alessio
    Blas Avena Vs. Hirumitsu Miura
    Alex Serdyukov Vs. Ryan Stonitsch
    Kenji Osawa Vs. Chris Manuel
    Scott Harper Vs. Logan Clark

edit: TSN is showing the event after all...just that it's on saturday night instead of tonight. :(
  • MMA is starting to heat up for april :) ...another show on saturday from strikeforce / elitexc. unfortunately, with the losses of cyborg, josh thompson and jake shields due to injury, (edit: and now nick diaz too!) the show went from "awesome!!!" to "pretty good" real fast. the main event should be VERY interesting, though.

showtime in the states and the fight network in canada...

Strikeforce / Elite XC, March 29, 2008 - HP Pavillion, San Jose, California - Showtime / The Fight Network

    Main Card:

Frank Shamrock Vs. Cung Le - Strikeforce MW Championship
Drew Fickett Vs. Jae Suk Lim (Jake Sheilds out due to injury, Nick Diaz out due to CSAC ruling / Matches were originally Nick Diaz Vs. Jae Suk Lim and Drew Fickett Vs. Jake Sheilds for Elite XC WW Championship)
Gilbert Melendez Vs. Gabe Lemley (Josh Thompson out due to injury) - Strikeforce LW Championship
    Wayne Cole Vs. Mike Kyle
Joey Villasenor Vs. Ryan Jensen (Evangelista Santos out due to injury)

    Pre-lims:

Billy Evangelista Vs. Marlon Sims (swing bout)
    Luke Stewart Vs. Tiki Ghosn
    Jesse Jones Vs. Jesse Gillespie
    Darren Uyenoyama Vs. Anthony Figueroa

edit: a card plagued with injury and controversy!!! guess we'll have to wait to see how it turns out. should be an interesting night of explanations. :)
  • GINA CARANO ADDED TO ELITE XC'S CBS DEBUT
    Wednesday, March 26, 2008
    MMAWeekly.com

EliteXC on Wednesday announced additional bouts for its May 31 debut on the CBS Television Network.

New bouts announced include Gina Carano vs. Kaitlin Young, Phil Baroni vs. Murilo “Ninja” Rua, and Brett Rogers and John Murphy.

The promotion had already announced the participation of Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson in the main event against an as yet unnamed opponent, and a middleweight title bout between champion Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith.

Carano hasn’t competed in MMA since defeating Tonya Evinger last September in Hawaii. Following that bout, she has been busy participating in the NBC revival of the “American Gladiators” television show.

Young is coming off of a loss, the first of her career, to Sara Schneider at the Feb. 1 Bodog Fight event in Las Vegas. Prior to that, she had gone undefeated in her first four professional bouts, including winning a one-night, eight-woman tournament for Hook-N-Shoot.

The bout between Baroni and Rua had been confirmed by MMAWeekly.com sources, but had not been officially announced by EliteXC until Wednesday.

-Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson vs. TBA
    -Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith
    -Gina Carano vs. Kaitlin Young
-Phil Baroni vs. Murilo "Ninja" Rua
    -Brett Rogers vs. John Murphy
