  • i know! travel from the same city would be sweet. of course, i'm the one with close to 20 hours on the train...so that's easy for me to say! haha :D i'm looking forward to it, though. i'm sure there'll be a couple of people i know and many others i don't who are heading to the same place.

didn't notice the tapout party until you mentioned it. skyscrape, mask and punkass coming to montreal to throw a party. good times. :) seems there are a number of familiar MMA personalities who will be around!

...no, there won't be too many people in montreal for that weekend! :D

LMAO! who are those dudes???? they look like they got lost on the way to a WWE event?? :p

oh, by the way, i just got an email from UFC about an auction they're holding for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd row tickets for Montreal, including a signed poster, and a chat with Dana White. My first thought was "WHAT? It's not a charity auction???" lol... you know you tour with Pearl Jam too much when.... :D

+1 to EVERYTHING you said Ceg! I love Benaroya ... it's always in my car.

The Tapout guys are kinda odd ... but I bet they'd be fun to party with. You could re-use your KISS halloween costume and fit right in with them. ;)

 ;) That sounds like the makings of the cincy orgy!!

Edit: but it might help us get into the afterparty! ;)

man, that looks insane, too bad i already have my tickets and hotel or i'd do it. Some of the the guys i'm going with are staying at the Delta, so i guess they got lucky and got a party hotel.
The TapOut Guys are insane, i'd love to party with them. It would definatly be something i probably wouldn't remember :)

  • :D:D:D you guys are too funny! :)

yep, i'll put benaroya in my little cd packet for the trip for sure! maybe some wintersleep, french gangsta rap, etc.

yeah, the tapout guys certainly like to stand out, but i think they started that as a way to draw attention at shows years ago when they were selling t-shirts out of the trunk in the parking lot.

i guess the makeup never came off for mask and skyscrape must like his wigs. i think punkass would probabaly dress that way anyway. ;) they actually do a lot for up and coming fighters in terms of sponsorships and motivation, and help with their connections. i'm sure it will be a mighty after party they throw in montreal!
  • just checked my tv guide and once again TSN is being inconsistent with the WEC shows. they showed the last one on an hour delay...the one before that was a week later, they didn't show one of them at all, and have shown a couple live.

no show tonight, unfortunately. it's on versus in the states, though. there's a couple of interesting matches here, but not their best show on paper. i'm surprised alessio vs. larson is on the undercard. oh well, i'll hope to find the torrent later on in the evening.

i was really looking forward to avena vs. miura too!

    WEC 33, March 26, 2008 - Sacramento, California - Versus

    Marcus Hicks Vs. Ed Ratcliff
    Rich Crunkilton Vs. Sergio Gomez
    Steve Cantwell Vs. Tim McKenzie

    Pre-lims:

    Brock Larson Vs. John Alessio
    Blas Avena Vs. Hirumitsu Miura
    Alex Serdyukov Vs. Ryan Stonitsch
    Kenji Osawa Vs. Chris Manuel
    Scott Harper Vs. Logan Clark

edit: TSN is showing the event after all...just that it's on saturday night instead of tonight. :(
  • MMA is starting to heat up for april :) ...another show on saturday from strikeforce / elitexc. unfortunately, with the losses of cyborg, josh thompson and jake shields due to injury, (edit: and now nick diaz too!) the show went from "awesome!!!" to "pretty good" real fast. the main event should be VERY interesting, though.

showtime in the states and the fight network in canada...

Strikeforce / Elite XC, March 29, 2008 - HP Pavillion, San Jose, California - Showtime / The Fight Network

    Main Card:

Frank Shamrock Vs. Cung Le - Strikeforce MW Championship

Billy Evangelista Vs. Marlon Sims (swing bout)
    Luke Stewart Vs. Tiki Ghosn

    Darren Uyenoyama Vs. Anthony Figueroa

edit: a card plagued with injury and controversy!!! guess we'll have to wait to see how it turns out. should be an interesting night of explanations. :)
  • GINA CARANO ADDED TO ELITE XC'S CBS DEBUT
    Wednesday, March 26, 2008
    MMAWeekly.com

EliteXC on Wednesday announced additional bouts for its May 31 debut on the CBS Television Network.

New bouts announced include Gina Carano vs. Kaitlin Young, Phil Baroni vs. Murilo “Ninja” Rua, and Brett Rogers and John Murphy.

The promotion had already announced the participation of Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson in the main event against an as yet unnamed opponent, and a middleweight title bout between champion Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith.

Carano hasn’t competed in MMA since defeating Tonya Evinger last September in Hawaii. Following that bout, she has been busy participating in the NBC revival of the “American Gladiators” television show.

Young is coming off of a loss, the first of her career, to Sara Schneider at the Feb. 1 Bodog Fight event in Las Vegas. Prior to that, she had gone undefeated in her first four professional bouts, including winning a one-night, eight-woman tournament for Hook-N-Shoot.

The bout between Baroni and Rua had been confirmed by MMAWeekly.com sources, but had not been officially announced by EliteXC until Wednesday.

-Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson vs. TBA
    -Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith
    -Gina Carano vs. Kaitlin Young
-Phil Baroni vs. Murilo "Ninja" Rua
    -Brett Rogers vs. John Murphy

  • many fighters have had to withdraw from this weekend's strikeforce / elitexc show in san jose due to injuries, but the "reason" behind nick diaz being dropped from the card is absolutely ridiculous, in my opinion.

the CSAC is basically saying that nick MAY test postive for THC, so we won't let him compete. all of this while they are letting mike kyle compete...a fighter who, in his last fight, kicked his opponent in the head reapeatedly while his opponent was on the ground and did not stop when the referee attempted to intervene to stop the match.

kyle should be out of the sport, yet he is able to fight. diaz has a legal prescription for marijuana and is not permitted to fight?

    also...

Nick Diaz removed from Strikeforce Card by CSAC
Wednesday, March 26, 10:25 PM PST

In what Pro-Eilte promoter, Gary Shaw, has described as "an abuse of power" by CSAC Commissioner, Armando Garcia, Nick Diaz has been pulled from this Saturday's Strikeforce card. Diaz was reportedly pulled from the card for admitting to being a Cannabis Club Member. Diaz was planning to pass his drug exam on the day of his fight, however he had admitted on his State Application to having used marijuana previously and to being a member of the Cannabis Club. Marijuana use is legal in California when prescribed by a doctor. Nick Diaz has a prescription and was told by the doctors, that were recommended directly by the CSAC, "We are aware that you tested positive before so if you are a legal user please present your Cannibas Club Card to ensure there will not be problems if you do test positive"

Armando Garcia became aware that Diaz would be submitting legal documentation proving that he had a legal prescription for the use of marijuana and threatened to pull him from the card. Pro-Elite consulted with Diaz and was guaranteed that he had indeed not been smoking and was prepared to pass the drug test. Two days later Armando, after reviewing Diaz's initial application, summarily pulled Diaz anyways.

"This is like a cop giving you a ticket for owning a Ferrari even though he did not catch you speeding." - Gary Shaw

When pressed by Sherdog reporter, Josh Gross, Garcia then stated that Diaz had not submitted his medicals in a timely manner and that the Commission did not have ample time to review Diaz's application and medicals. However Diaz had finished all applications and medicals on March 10th and was actually the first Pro-Elite fighter to have completed all his CSAC requirements.

  • just a heads up to anyone in canada who has the fight network and TSN...lots! of MMA on schedule tonight.

first, the fight network is airing yarennoka's show last new year's eve from saitama in japan at 6 eastern, then the strikeforce / elite xc show featuring frank shamrock vs. cung le at 9 eastern, and finally the WEC 33 show from this wednesday just passed will be shown on TSN at 11:30 eastern.

yep, that's my plan for this evening. :)
  • more strangeness from the strikeforce / elite xc "doomed" card...:D

drew fickett initially weighed in at 174 lbs. for some reason the bout had been contracted at 172, so he only needed to lose two pounds to make that limit. he would make the limit as he weighed in later at 171.

then, tiki ghosn didn't even show up for the initial weigh-ins, but did arrive later in the day and made weight late, but will still compete.

i'll be surprised if the power doesn't go out tomorrow night in san jose! :D

starting to get very excited for wednesday night's UFC fight night and the new TUF premiere! should be a great night of fights on wednesday! :)

There's a marathon of last season's TUF playing on spike right now too!

I'm excited for Fight Night (Vas y Gray!!!!) and the new TUF as well. It will be interesting to see the difference in training styles. Forrest is pretty hard core and Randy Couture has said several times that he has to kick Forrest out of the gym. Then you have Rampage who is known for not exactly loving to train. Maybe he'll bring Juan Ibarra with him. I'm sure Rampage will be entertaining to say the least. I wonder what the coaches competition toward the end of the show will be . . . maybe mini golf?!

first, i am happy that my streak of consecutive posts has ended! :D

second, that's killing me now because i was going to take a nap before the fight network started showing the yarennoka show! "rest" and watch the tube, i guess now?

mini golf! hilarious. not a bad idea and one that i would might consider paying to see rampage take part in. :D i'm really excited for this season. both coaches i like. both are colourful personalities and great fighters. as you said, though, they both have very different mindsets when it comes to training...we'll see how that pans out. i'm wondering how many fights will be on the first show?!?! should be interesting when the guys learn how it works this season.

p.s. vas-y gray! i'm still uncertain about a couple of picks, but i'm definitely going with gray to beat edgar. i like frankie and he's got a great future, but i have a feeling that this is a style of match that will make gray look very good.
  • Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson Vs. Ruben Villareal??

What happened to Kimbo vs some real competition??

my "sources" ;):D were wrong apparently, lbc. rumour #100 is james thompson as "the opponent".

I'm happy to finally be able post something! :) Hopefully you were able to get some rest/sleep this afternoon.

From the previews it looks like the first episode will have all 32 fighters competing for the 16 spots on the show. I'm guessing that they won't show each fight in it's entirety but just the highlights. Then the guys that make the show will be picked by Forrest and Rampage for teams? I actually think this is a great way to start of the show. But each guy always has a puncher's chance so we might see some good fighters go home early.

Merde! I hadn't even thought about my picks for fight night yet. Obviously I'll be picking Gray to win but I'll have to do some research to pick the others. Thanks for the reminder!

ps MONTREAL!!!!!!!!! ;):D There have been a ton of ads today for UFC 83. 21,000 crazy mma fans!! The Bell Centre is going to be LOUD!

happy to see one of you guys back! :) i thought i was in "i am legend" for a bit...haha

too much sleep as i missed the first two hours of the yarennoka show. i'd seen it before, but only on the computer, so i guess i should have taped it. not the best event overall, but at least two really good matches that i remember...

the new concept is great, isn't it! as you mentioned there's always that chance that someone gets caught making a mistake so there might be a couple of deserving guys sent home that way. for the most part, it should give us the better guys in the actual tournament for the finale. i was wondering too how they would pick teams. i'm sure they must have evaluations before or after the fights?

can't wait to see how it all goes down this wednesday! good luck on the picks. the LW matches are tough on a couple of these.

WHAT was that you said about the bell centre!?!?! WHA?!?! :D

ok it's finally here, since we have a card on tonite that looks pretty decent, i'm counting tonite as the start of the greatest month of MMA ever lol!!!!!!!!!!

I pvr'd the yarennoka show, so i'm gunna watch that later tonite, i've been watching the ultimate fighter from last season all day, and you really could tell from the beginning who was going to win. oh, and i really wish mac had of beat the sh!t out of richie hightower.
So i did my Fight Night predictions today, but i'm still not positive about em. I really want Joe Lauzon to win against KenFlo, but my head is telling me it going the other way, so i think that might change.

CAN'T WAIT TO GO NUTS IN THE BELL CENTRE!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi leafs <waves hi>! :) I couldn't agree with you more about this being the best month of mma ever! Perhaps because I'm going to my first event and meeting you all, but I am RIDICULOUSLY excited for Montreal!

Good luck with picks. Hopefully I can have a better showing than last time <hangs head in shame>!

    :D;) hahahaha

I'm guessing none of us will have any hearing or voice left by the end of the night!

Hey did your Team Tanner shirt ever show up? DHL apparently decided to hang onto my Gray shirt for a couple days. They claimed they couldn't find my apartment building. Seriously? DHL doesn't have Google maps?!

tell me about it! i'm trying to get out of the basement with these picks! :D

great month, indeed. if the card for tonight hadn't changed it would be phenomenal...but now we'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

leafs, the ishida / melendez match from the yarennoka show was my favourite, so be sure to check for that (just because it was my fave ;):D)...the aoki match near the end was very good too.

wednesday and montreal will be the best, though! i wish i could be in montre...wait we will be in montreal! still seems surreal. it won't hit me until i'm on the train...:)

my team tanner shirt arrived on the monday or tuesday after evan's fight with okami. i can remember which day, but it was only a few days after the event! almost had it in time. sorry to hear about the bully shirt. that's rather odd, isn't it? since you mentioned i might have a possible tanner fan as a post employee...maybe???...:D

I guess it's possible the DHL employee is a Gray fan ... but if it's a guy, he would look pretty silly in my PINK the Bully shirt! ;)

Glad you've got your Tanner shirt for MONTREAL!!!!!!!!!!

    +1 on april!

what a turnaround in action! the first 3 and a half was pretty stale, and then punches and kicks exchanged on the feet like crazy! it looked like jensen was going to get the better of it after getting tagged that first time and then joey put him out with one punch! wow!
  • leafs4everleafs4ever Posts: 833
ya mookie, the first part was really boring, and then like you said, after jensen got rocked he came alive and they went at it like it was a war. I think he was just expecting those quick jabs that joe was throwing, and wasn't expecting him to follow up with the right. and then good night
