    Resisting arrest is not punishable when it is an illegal arrest.
    He was being escorted outside. His refusal to cooperate led to his arrest. Doesn't matter if the cops were wrong, you DO NOT resist or refuse cooperation under any circumstances. If the arrest was illegal he could've pressed charges for false arrest. But since he DID resist (regardless of his innocence or guilt) he qualifies for punishment.

    Go back a page and read the links to your rights as a citizen in this country concerning illegal arrest. He had the right to kill those cops in self-defense for their assault and battery.

    You need to learn your rights. Otherwise you're just agreeing to police abuse like a kicked dog that lingers on with an abusive owner.

    When being arrested:

    1) You have the Constitutional right to remain silent;
    2) Anything you say can be held against you in the court of law;
    3) You have the right to legal counsel and that if you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you; and
    4) If you choose, you may have a lawyer present during interrogation.

    These are your rights (Miranda Rights) when you are under arrest. You also have the Bill of Rights. If it is illegal you can take action afterwards (nobody has convinced me this arrest was illegal).

    I'm glad he did what he did. I think this is a perfect case-study in what cops can and cannot do in a free society, and sheds a lot of light on the attitudes of the american people when it comes to abuse of power and police brutality. This is something that should be built on.

  • I was watching one of this guys friends being interviewed today on CNN, and it makes me think not everybody is getting the whole story. This girl, whom was asked by this guy to record the whole thing, shed a little more light on the whole thing. As she pointed out, not all of these videos caught the whole thing, as most people started recording after things started getting crazy. According to her (who was there with him, and recorded his footage) the young man didn't just wait his turn to ask his question and get accosted, he plowed is way up to the front, and cut somebody else off whose turn it was to talk, and then started his ramblings. Already he was being disorderly, and this led to the inital police reaction, not because of his opinions/questions. His continued conduct and resistance, not to mention the fact that there was a Senator in the building, whose protection was their responsibility, is what led to his being tasered. This young man wasn't just being abused for "being a dick" or for his opinions, he was being dragged off and tasered for billigerant and possibly dangerous behaviour.

    I was reading a story on the web, and they were talking about this kids website, which I have not visited, which makes it pretty obvious this was a stunt he planned for attention, and got a response he was probably happy with. It said his site had videos of him standing outside of a bookstore the day the last Harry Potter book was being released holding a sign that said "Harry Dies", and other such stuff. Now is a prank or a stunt something that should get you tasered? No it isn't. But in a forum like this, he knew he would get a reaction like he did (being removed that is) and he should have just not resisted. When he started resisting and acting crazy, he brought the tasing on himself.

    As for his freedom of speech, it wasn't his speech that got him in trouble, it was his actions. And what about the freedom of speech for the person who he cut off? That person had the right, and was following the rules of the forum, to ask his/her question or state an opinion, and "Johnny LookAtMe" decided to strip that away for his own little stunt.

    If somebody ran up on stage during a Pearl Jam show, and took the microphone from Ed to start rambling his personal politics stopping the show in it's tracks, and was forcibly dragged from the stage and possibly tasered, would you be angry? Or would you still think he should be allowed to do it because it is "his right"?

    I thought about this yesterday. There was more of a preamble to the tape, however he was only talking. Kerry can talk as well, unless he was just shouting over top of him nonstop. Freedom of speech means being able to talk loudly as well.

    The full story will surface.

  • to troll or not to troll....it amazes me that so many people...so many intelligent people are unable to recognize reality..

    reality...a goofy liberal kid want's to make a stir on a liberal campus, and wants to get tazered so that everyone will make some sort of vague connections to how bush is a fascist, plans the event, and hands off his camera to his friend...and so whacko libs will blame bush for creating an atmosphere of anti-disent. you people that make this argument are so out of your mind that it's hilarious.

    if you're serious about the first amendment, the discussion starts at mccain / feingold (aka the pro-incumbent finance reform).

    i have to admit...his "help me" plea were funny as fuck!
    And you ask me what I want this year
    And I try to make this kind and clear
    Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
    Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
    And desire and love and empty things
    Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
