  • I think there's a little backstage coaxing from the oil crowd to keep us buying their crack.

    To put it mildly.

Why aren't we seeing new innovative companies pushing solar kit packages on TV etc...?

    Damn good question I think.

I don't mean to be rude, but I think your research methods are flawed.

Can you confirm that people here are not just exhausted of debates on the environment. Perhaps some of us are used to the debate and avoid posting in order to avoid the imminent confrontation that is common.

Maybe some of us were on vacation, taking a break, missed the thread, or something else caught our eyes.

    It doesn't seem definitive.

I think you will have more accurate results if you just consider those that responded to the thread. There is no way of knowing why people didn't post on the thread.

probably alot of truth to that

because its not readily avaliable. and "solar kit packages" do not fill our electricity needs.

regardless, this solar energy is bullshit. its not always sunny and um, well what about at night?

I myself am not a home owner.
One day perhaps I will purchase my own place.
Perhaps all newly erected housing should be built solar/GREEN.
This would not be a bad idea.
Doing so I am sure would lower the cost of the solar/GREEN construction.

That's another very important aspect. The folks in the UK are pretty much overcast all the time. So it's a bust for them.

Places like California, Mexico etc that get 300 days of full sun a year it's a pretty good deal. For the rest who get a 50/50 split of sunny days it's a lack lustre scenarion unless they double the panel coverage and drop like 80 large with hopes of seeing it come back one day.

Once the prices comes down, I think it will take off.

I didn't even see the thread in question. I was very interested in solar when I lived where there was sun, however, where I live now there isn't enough to warrant looking in to it. :)

Yea I am here too, not in your town living but close enough.
It rains quite a lot here, what, probably 7 or 8 months of decent
long periods of solid rain here on the coastal region.
Like today it is gray out, rained last night a bit.
Today it might not even be above 60 degrees.
But can solar panels absorb filtered gray sun light ?

this board; and a few others; were part of an experiment to see how much people cared about global warming; alternative energy; and the future of mankind.
i started a thread about solar energy and i was chosen because i've used solar energy for over 30 years; becoming 100% solar early 2006.
an intelligent person would assume that people would have questions about solar energy and it's use; and how they could impliment solar energy into their current lives. especially from someone with so much experience in the field. that happened on one board. this board had the least responses showing that people here don't care about their fellow man. they have no concern for future generations and IMO; will continue to rape the earth until it has no more to give. people here are all talk but have no desire to learn alternatives to our wasteful lifestyles.
i'm one of 20 people gathering data and the results should be published next month.
I didn't even know there was a thread about solar power. I had to search for it just now, only to find it was entitled "And You Still Fall For It." How is anyone supposed to know what the topic of that thread is? I figured it was a thread about how you are in some way better, smarter, more informed than the rest of us ... in other words, a thread I wasn't interested in reading.

It's also possible that people didn't ask questions because they don't consider you to be a reliable source of information.

many have noticed my DON'T GIVE A **** attitude the last few weeks. i've been given a limited time to live so i won't be here. but i do care about what kind of world my grandchidren will have to live in.
I am truly sorry to hear that, onelongsong :(

I too have been given a limited time to live, but I'm not taking them at their word. Not knowing the details of your situation, there isn't much I can say other than that I will hope for the best for you.

  • I was going to but it's not my research. OLS post a thread titled "would you switch to solar power to save the environment?" or something like that...

Nothing personal, but if I was the guy publishing the data collected I would exclude the findings here, and the last thread purely from scientific approach...this one is limited, and the other is not impartial enough (i.e. neutral, unbiased).

Laura that mentality is excellent. I like surrounding myself with people that think this way.

Why on earth would THIS board be chosen, out of all the other message boards out there, for a study about going green?

What other boards were part of this experiment?

Assuming, of course, that your thread is legit.

I don't know, but I'm sure some in this area could use it. It's just our house is under "lots" of doug firs. Even when it is sunny we get none on our house. I love it though, keeps our house very temperate. We're always at least 10 degrees cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. If you could get energy from moss we'd be in! :)

Ooops. I broke my own cardinal rule... I edited my post above. If you could delete the same I would be grateful. It's my way of wiping it entirely from existence.

hard to explain, but it works for me.

    Thanks and thanks!
