I love the idea of solar energy, including wind. But, since I don't own property, I dont' have any way to implement it. It's been brought up at a meeting at work, and the owners like the idea, but it's a wait and see thing.
in 1888 in cleveland ohio; charles f brush made the first wind turbine to generate electricity. so we've been waiting 119 years thus far. and it's estimated that 15 million homes have the necessary resources to make a wind installation cost effective. (mother earth news; june/july issue).
i know everyone can't make the move to solar energy; but the beginning of everything starts with education. it also puzzles me when i go to the city and see buildings with towers on the roofs. why not install a wind generator or two? since 41 states now require "net metering"; excess power can be sold back to the power company at the same price you pay to buy from them. during times of high winds; your meter runs backwards.
i'd also like to add; for those who can't seem to comprehend; that this was a marketing study by a solar manufacturer. i'm not sure where anyone got the idea this was a scientific study. people read in what they want i guess. the manufacturer learned where to concentrate their advertising so the end result was successful.
i completely agree with you gue. not everyone can use solar power directly. but my argument is that if the people who can; would. the power companies can supply the rest with the wind farms and solar arrays they now opperate which then makes all our power solar generated and the need for coal fired or nuclear plants is gone. this in turn lowers prices to those not generating.
why can't billions of dollars of oil profits go toward ideas like these....
These are great cb! Thanks!
I think the oil profiteering will come to a grinding halt soon enough and we'll see an increase in this kind of technology, but they have to find ways of milking the money from us for it first. That's usually how this stuff works now. If we can make it appealing to the filthy rich bastards that are out to line their pockets then we might stand a chance.
And you imagine that you know everyone's reasons for not asking?
As several have pointed out, the thread title didn't refer to solar power in any way, so even if someone had come here specifically to discuss alternative energy sources, they'd have had no particular reason to click on your thread. The title was also demeaning to the reader. As I mentioned, I didn't read your thread because it didn't sound like anything I would be interested in.
You also have to consider the reputation you've made for yourself on this board. Even if I HAD read the thread, I do not consider you to be a reliable source of information because of your posts in the past. On several occasions, you've presented yourself as some sort of legal expert and given completely false information, which leads me to doubt your claimed expertise in other areas as well.
Exactly, and if that truly was an "experiment" he must have either never taken or badly failed a "Research and Methods" class...........I think it's funny how when some actual good questions are asked, there's no response.........Maybe we should conclude that everyone on the Pearl Jam Message Pit wants the world to explode

some people never passed reading 101. in several posts (including one just above); it was explained that this was a marketing survey. and that it originated from a solar manufacturer. maybe it's just a comprehension problem. i can't imagine people being so
as to not understand such a simple concept.
i'm not giving up but i look forward to death. we do get some good debates started don't we?
Yes we do. Here is one for you: "How much wood, would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"
I've heard it's 72 butt-cords of wood. But I haven't been able to confirm it.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire
this board; and a few others; were part of an experiment to see how much people cared about global warming; alternative energy; and the future of mankind.
i started a thread about solar energy and i was chosen because i've used solar energy for over 30 years; becoming 100% solar early 2006.
an intelligent person would assume that people would have questions about solar energy and it's use; and how they could impliment solar energy into their current lives. especially from someone with so much experience in the field. that happened on one board. this board had the least responses showing that people here don't care about their fellow man. they have no concern for future generations and IMO; will continue to rape the earth until it has no more to give. people here are all talk but have no desire to learn alternatives to our wasteful lifestyles.
i'm one of 20 people gathering data and the results should be published next month.

I wold try to contibute to this thread because I've been studying and working on getting solar into my city home. It IS doable, but I guess this isn't the thread to actually talk about solar.
I love the idea of solar energy, including wind. But, since I don't own property, I dont' have any way to implement it. It's been brought up at a meeting at work, and the owners like the idea, but it's a wait and see thing.
Do you guys have Green Energy there gue? Like you can sign up to the electrical company for energy supplied by green sources or they'll plant trees or something? Don't I sound well informed? But it's something like that. I'll see if I can find a link later and post it for you.
Here's a link I found for Australia gue all about Green Energy. I'm sure there will be something similar in the US for people that aren't able to afford or use solar panels.
i guess an idiot would find it offensive but if you're not an idiot; you'd know it didn't concern you.
also; there are passive solar measures you can use even in apartments. like hot air collectors. you can build/buy one and slip it into a window without tools for the winter. so there's something everyone can do. i guess if the conversation went in an intelligent direction instead of a hateful one; we would have covered that already.
i don't have to be black to find nigger offensive.
come on allen, your tone started it off on a bad footing. everyone else responded to that, even me.

I'm willing to bet that with all of your education in solar technology, you never once took a college-level statistics course. There's just no way anyone with any bit of fundamental knowledge of stats could jump to the ridiculously near-sighted and hopelessly one-sided conclusion that you reached in the above statement. I haven't read all 10 pages of this thread, but if anyone on this board has any shred of common sense, I would think that the point I'm making in this post has been thoroughly covered at least 10 times over.

i'll believe it when i see the article linked on here or someone hands me a published copy. until then, i suspect this is yet another of your tall tales.
ps. no, i dont care about alternative energy. im in school, renting an apartment i do not own and am not authorized to make changes to. so i can't do a godamn thing about it right now. even if i could, i don't have the capital to spend on a bunch of new technology changes to a building i will be leaving in 2 years.
so i guess that makes me a wasteful, careless, rapist.
Again...
Has anyone else been able to connect to http://www.ag.com and get to some place other than American Greetings?
I really DO want to verify and validate the statistics used in this experiment. I want to verify the number of responses in those other sites to validate whether or not this set of users really doesn't give a shit about their fellow man.
...
I'm checking the A&E Message Board... but, really don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for other than discussions of the use of Solar Power in place of conventional sources.

perhaps your experimental data is flawed in a sense where folks were not disinterested in solar-energy as a progressive concept, but instead were in agreement too unanimously about the benefits and plausibility of alternative energy forms to go forth and produce diligent, lengthy commentaries about such notions,....?
maybe not, i dont really care much about your study either way. the fact is i havent posted in awhile and i just felt like screaming HELLO! to the persons i used to talk and debate with,....
i hope everyone is feeling great today!!
