I'm often embarrassed, ashamed and disgusted by some members of my gender.

Who am I kidding? Not just some, most of them.

Native American women suffering shocking rates of rape: Amnesty

Tue Apr 24, 11:36 AM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Native American and Alaskan women are suffering rates of rape and sexual violence nearly three times higher than the US national average, Amnesty says in a new study released Tuesday.

The human rights watchdog said a complex maze of tribal, state and federal jurisdictions often allowed men to rape with impunity, creating a vicious cycle that emboldened rapists and led to more attacks.

The study cited Justice Department figures which indicated that American Indian and Alaska Native women were 2.5 times more likely to be raped or sexually assaulted than women in the United States in general.

The figures said more than one in three Native women would be raped in their lifetime, although that figure may in fact be substantially higher because of a traditional reluctance to report sex crimes.

"Native women are brutalized at an alarming rate, and the United States government, a purported champion of women's rights, is unfortunately contributing to the problem," said Larry Cox, executive director of Amnesty International USA.

"It is disgraceful that such abuse even exists today. Without immediate action, an already abysmal and outrageous situation for women could spiral even further out of control."

The Amnesty report "Maze of Injustice: The Failure to Protect Indigenous Women From Sexual Violence in the USA" said many rape investigations stalled as officers tried to establish who the investigating authority was

But heaven forbid anyone put any restrictions on MEN'S behavior! No, it's always the women.

In Iran nobody is permitted to watch Satellite TV.

There are rules for men, as well as women.

Here is a nice documentary about such life in Iran

Ha, all of these threads get converted into rape threads. It seems like the feminazis want to convert every inequality into a rape case.

This book is feminist because it is all about self-knowledge and empowerment. It also sits firmly within the area of feminism which offers natural solutions to health issues, avoidance of medical intervention unless necessary, and the presentation of the normal working of women’s bodies as a natural miracle to be embraced rather than supressed (witness the increase of women stressing the positive aspects of menstruation, for example).

Could it not be considered a biology book or something? Why title it feminist? It makes no sense to me! Now feminism is everything female, how the fuck do I know the difference? Aggh, the sky is falling!

Also, apparently because I'm a man I can't obtain "self-knowledge and empowerment" holy fuck! Now I have to right a masculine counter-book, to argue men can be enlightened and empowered and we should not submit to the wisdom of women!

Damn, why am I being so nice about it? I shouldn't have said 'wisdom', should have said 'bullshit' cause that's how we get down in this battle of the sexes.

    "mother nature" "father time"

Nu ah, should be the other way around. Nature is life, time is death.

Little red riding hood, and you know the big bad wolf has to be a dude.

Come to think of it, pretty much all the bad people in fairy tales are men, and the good people are women and children. Fuck!

But we know women are equal and just as cruel and vile as men. That is what equal means after all.

Did I mention how boring this board is today?

Anyway, it's a good thing Iran did those, so the Iranian people can use it as a bad example and remind them not to put a fundamentalist in power next time.

I could argue quite a bit with that last statement, but I won't, because the topic is dress codes in Iran. Let's not get too far off base, shall we? Start another thread if you want to talk about the poor persecuted males.

I don't know about you, but I was under the oppresive regime of my mother for the first 16 years of my life.

I was under my mother's loving guidance :)

Not that I appreciated it at the time, mind you ... I was a real brat.

Right, cause you were a girl. My sister was 'lovingly guided' as well. To hate men that is.

ahnimus, you seem to have a lot of issues with women.

you want to swtich mother nature/father time, why? is it so difficult for you that one good concept is associated with women? why is it so hard for you to give us that one smidge of 'power' when our rights are trampled on in EVERY other aspect of our lives.

and why does every thread about women have to convert to a rape thread you ask? well, since the age of 12, i, along with probably every other woman on this board was told to be careful about strangers, not only because of kidnapping like my brother was told about, but because of rape. every time i went to a party in high school my mom begged me to get someone to walk me home, not because i'm some weak feable girl, but because she was so afraid that i would get caught by suprise and raped (this was not a silly over-protective mothering thing, as there were several occasions that i ended up running home away from creepy men that were following me either on foot or in their car). i've had several freinds be sexually assaulted, and 2 were raped. this is something that all women have had to deal with, so please excuse us if we discuss something that is so embedded within our female culture, we didn't mean to offend you.

I am not exactly a hardcore feminist or anything, but this post is sensible and difficult to challenge. Almost every woman I know and love can relate to this sort of experience, so there's got to be something to it.
Men ARE lucky, in that they don't have to worry about this in the same way that women do.
