i hardly feel poking fun at tom cruise for wanting to build a bomb shelter from aliens on a message board he will never read qualifies as the kind of sadistic behavior deserving of verbal aggression.0 -
Tom Sounds like a really eccentric guy with a shitload of cash that spends it on whatever he wants to...
The Oprah thing still tops it though.

soulsinging wrote:yet you say you agree with genie that depression is not a mental illness and should not be medicated, based solely upon the fact that you got over your issues that way? aren't you degrading the severity of their illness?eg. do you agree with tom cruise that brooke shields should not have taken medication to help with her post-partum depression? how come you discredit genie for the line she draws, then you decide you can draw your own lines about what is real mental illness and what isnt?
The line I confronted re: genie is the line of stigma, judgement and ostracization that is the REAL pain for those with psychic pain, on any level. That goes beyond conscientious acknowledgment that someone needs help, and to a degree of being degrading. That is a very distinct line. When someone crosses that line and acts degrading, it's about someone being degrading and has nothing to do with mental health issues in another person."The opposite of a fact is falsehood, but the opposite of one profound truth may very well be another profound truth." ~ Niels Bohr

i just quit my job at the mental health facility last week. that place was so unreal. people would go to that place habitually. they literally had bags of dozens of medications that weighed as much as 2 or 3 lbs. i always wondered why they would never get better.
i found that medications aren't the "ultimate" solutions, in any case. and in some cases, it increases or worsens your illness. to a certain extent.... i agree with scientologists.
not to say medications don't work at all.... they do. but i myself rather wouldn't take 'em. and i hope none of my family will ever have to take them. i feel it's better to use natural things. the sun for instance... it's good vitamin for the brain. the country. a vacation. light-hearted conversations with the family. This isn't the land of opportunity, it's the land of competition.0 -

well, i came back home. and it's all still kicking off
and what's this all about passive-aggresive and openly agressive??
when i said i liked the way his said "pounce" i meant i liked the word. it's nothing to do with you or with soulsinging. i liked the word because i pictured ( i can't believe i'm writing this in here ) a pretty tiger pouncing on me with it's cute claws out. i don't know... the word seemed sexy to me.i don't understand how i am being passively agressive here.

I'm not siding with Tom Criuse... but, think about it... how much different are his beliefs than some one who thinks a guy that lived 2,000 years ago will come back to life... from Heaven to take only the people who worship Him as their Saviour? Or someone who believes that Jesus lived in America and His truth was dechiphered from golden tablets through reading stones that only one man could read? Or that strapping a bomb to your chest and walkng onto a city bus and detonating it makes you a martyr and you get to skip the formalities of getting into Heaven and jump to the front of the line?
...
To me... all of those 'truths' are not The Truth. They are relative truths to the believer. And if the person truely believes them... and it makes them happy... who am I to question their Subjective Truths? Well... except for the dude that blows himself up with the sole purpose of killing others in mind.
Would things be different if L.Ron Hubbard wrote his book is 63 A.D?Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Lol at opinions in this thread. If you have the money...why not?
You already bought and own everything else you can think of...
The man isn't exactly lifting a hammer or breaking a sweat to get it done.
Maybe he just wants to upgrade one part of his already pretty incredible house to include a mission impossible or "James Bond" section. Whatever... the guy is loaded...he's probably bored

Here is the problem: People are taught to believe they are flawed when they experience mental health issues. They are degraded. The result is generally that they believe the mental health issues are who they are--they are told it's genetic. They are stigmatized; their character is attacked. Therefore, they are stuck in very ill patterns, and chronic illness is the result. Their thinking processes become disabled, and they cannot rise out of the conditions on their own. They need any help they can find to get out of the patterns. So I support people using any tool that they find WORKS for them. I support people choosing for themselves the tools that bring progress of any sort. And it's SO important that we support people being all they can be, rather than sending them hopeless messages that they are and always will be ill. It's our stigma that creates the hopeless cycles.
For those who wonder why I take issue about the Tom Cruise thing, when he's not going to read this board...there are numerous people who DO read the board, and who have mental health issues. Society constantly sends the message that rather than understand mental health issues, we should be ashamed and degraded for them. I don't accept that."The opposite of a fact is falsehood, but the opposite of one profound truth may very well be another profound truth." ~ Niels Bohr
