Did anyone actually bother reading the comment that i posted along with that video? Or did you choose to ignore it?
    Pathetic!

The video i posted wasn't the problem. The problem was with idiots misinterpreting my reasons for posting it and with other idiots making blatently false accusations as to my reasons for posting it.

I stated them clearly. I asked the question: Is this what Bush is sending 20,000 more troops into. I stated that the war is unwinnable, because struggles of popular insurgency cannot be defeated. The video was there to clarify my point. That sniper is just one of many. The troops are fighting a largely hidden enemy, not too dissimilar to that encountered in Vietnam.
I then re-stated my opinion that the troops should be brought home.

I was then accused by a number of people on the board of sympathising with the sniper, and of revelling in the sight of U.S troops being taken out.

If i put a video up of the IDF taking out a member of hamas than said:

" what is hamas thinking, they cant compete with this, hamas will never win"

" Hamas could never defeat such a military as israel, why send their children to die".

" why fight for independence, hamas will never win."

    is that ok?

Sorry for misinterpreting your post. I figured it was in jest, but sometimes when you don't have the little face symbols it can be hard to tell. My 'hippie liberal douche' nametag is just something I heard on Southpark and thought it was really clever.
  • Pearl Jam offers a mostly liberal stance on political issues. Most of their fans share this viewpoint. Some of those with opposing political viewpoints are upset by this and choose to cause disruption of the reasoned political discussion that normally occurs here. These mostly right-wing zealots get a sense of empowerment from the mindless conservative talk shows that litter both the television and radio mediums. They then log on to this and other forums with the hope of raising their low levels of self-esteem by insulting those who dare disagree with the almighty neo-conservative ideology. You can see this phenomenon on any political message board. Luckily, these miscreants represent but a slim majority, so their influence is not as significant as they believe.

I spent the better part of an hour debating people in the sniper thread because they were completely disregarding your actual and specific words, while accusing you of being the evil-doer with the intentions they imagined you to have regardless of your direct words in the thread. Of course when I directed people to take a look at your myspace heroes, in response to you being called anti-American, or when Abookamongstthemany juxtaposed your own words against what others were accusing you of doing, those who opted to ignore your stated intentions while putting words and intentions in your mouth did not respond.

Sorry you feel that way. I actually feel like I learn a lot from people on this board.

Me too, I learn a lot from the people here as well. I learn a lot from the people who disagree with me, or they encourage me to think about something differently and people who agree with me give me new insights as well.

Sure, there's a lot of childish behaviour but at the end of the day that's not what I'm thinking about, I'm thinking about that statement that challenged my views or a new view that puts certain events in a new perspective.
    THANK YOU, LOSTDAWG!

I had actually forgotten about the thread in question, even though it was only a few days ago i believe! If i remember your post that went with the video correctly, then i think the person who started this thread has misinterpreted the point of the thread you made.
People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.

That's right. Although i notice that the mods have deemed it acceptable to post video footage of Iraqis being killed. Seems to me like there's a lack of evenhandedness around here at the moment.

You are welcome. :) I'm not saying this now for credit. But in support that I completely back you up based on the truth of your words in that thread. Your direct words were overlooked while people projected their own demons onto you in that thread. People were upset by a few issues and were putting that on the table, and at the same time they were confusing their own emotions and values, thinking you were responsible for their ideas of you. The fact is, you are you are responsible for what you actually say and your true intent. You are not responsible for how others interpret that. It's a little alarming when I see serious misinterpretation happen, despite the overt evidence to the contrary.
