The vast majority of people are good. The world in general is good.

The media needs to stop painting a picture of hatred and misfortune like it's the meal of the day. It's defeating in purpose. They make money selling sensationalistic stories...so that's what they do. It's really all just tabloid mentality in varying degrees. Some people can only hear so much bad news and keep it together. Fear keeps consumers consuming. This is how our gov't is failing us miserably.

People will look back in time and say wow how stupid we were to put money and material possessions above all else. Some of the happiest people I've ever met are also some of the poorest.

    I concur!
    Peace,

Racism and prejudice does not exist in the US.

sure it does. it exists everywhere, in every country around the world.

but to say asians are subjected to abuse on college campuses is simply not true.

Why not? You just said racism and prejudice exist.. Therefore it is very possible for an asian person, like a black person, to be subjected to racial abuse on a college campus... or are college campuses racism/abuse free zones?

Does anyone actually have ANY decent evidence that this kid was "racially abused"?

Don't think that was stated. Just trying to understand what could drive people to flip in such a way.. pressures, fitting in, etc.... racism was just part of this fitting in stuff... just general discussion.. not saying the shooter had been abused...

I am inclined to agree with jlew, but yeah, the basic difficulties with fitting in would obviously add to the stress level, to be sure.

It's about as likely as a white person being subjected to racial abuse except asian people have more protections on many campuses that I have been to.

Just looking back at the various shootings, the shooters were 'outsiders' (in their own way), therefore maybe more inclined to 'get back at society' a bit more than others. Social impact on these 'vulnerable' people could mean they react differently to others that are more integrated in this society.. ie, may one more integrated would shoot the girlfriend/person he has a beef with instead of 'getting even' with the rest of the world....
Very simplisticly (is that a word?) said but just a thought.... Obviously the shooter is to blame, but we, as a society, we probably also have a bit part to play here...

Were they outsiders by choice though? Some may say that they created this status for themselves.

Indeed, but what makes these people vulnerable is a whole confluence of different factors. Most school shooters are white, actually, although obviously that is changing.
There are some serious personality problems at work in these cases ... As you asked, why do some of them go so far beyond just killing one person immediately related to their stress?

May have more protection by law or regulations but nothing stops abuse.. covert or not. It can easily just be constant snubs, etc. Doesn't have to be big gestures... Same goes for white folk... abuse is not just against different races... A group of white people can very easily marginalise another white person.....

my daughter and 1 other person were the only whites on thier small campus in phoenix. they were the only ones who DIDN'T receive a scholorship of any kind. my daughter was top of her class so grades have nothing to do with it. it's all race.
that being said; i can see why a white person would go off. i did. not with violence but i fought until i couldn't fight anymore.

    Absolutely... it is far reaching...

And zstillings... one may 'chose' to be an outsider, but that could be a reaction (a defensive one?) against groups/society that have rejected him one way or the other (ie.. too strange looking amongst 'proper' folk, different views from the majority of people around him...). Can't fit and as such completely distancing himself from the 'group'....

Too many possibilities for one to become alienated - a loner - thus retreating in their own world.

black against whites, whites against asians, asians against blacks, whites against natives, blondes against redheads, rich against less advantage, etc...

Of course, every group in society can be subjected to abuse by another...

Should have taken it up... positive discrimination is crap (if that's what it was)... If there were rules for the scholarship (grades, finances, etc.) they should have been applied to all. You had the right to know why she didn't get the scholarship, where she failed and what the appeal process was...

I do agree that there are many different possibilities and I am only bringing these up, not really against what you are saying, but against a pervasive mentality that somehow attempts to lift the blame from the offender and place it on outside influences. I, once again, am not accusing you of this. It just seems to happen more often than not.

its possible and it exists but its not some huge problem that asian people deal with in general. got it now? fuck
